Kisses and Cuddles, a new board book from Little Bee Books, is the perfect gift to give to a little one for Valentine's Day. The pink cover bordered with patterned hearts looks like a Valentine, but the content of the book is not specific to the holiday so it can be enjoyed all year round.
In the story, a penguin child lists the things he loves to do during his day: making pancakes, pretending to be a superhero, reading a story, etc. But none of these compares to kisses and cuddles from mama at bedtime. Each moment is illustrated with bright, bold pictures showing the details of the penguin family's daily lives, including the wood stove where Mama cooks breakfast and the snazzy sunglasses the baby penguin wears when he is playing the drums.
The ideal age range for this book is ages 12 to 24 months. While infants can enjoy the illustrations, the ideas in the text are a bit beyond their experience, and though twos and threes might still be drawn to the book, it is too basic in its plot to truly engage them for more than one or two readings. It hits the sweet spot for the one-year-old audience, however, because of its straightforward writing style and focus on the closest relationship a child has at the age - the love he shares with his parents. -
Another cute board book, perhaps not the smoothest read but was fun. Cute minimal illustrations but just a bit too small for my story time purpose.

This book was just okay because it was a heart book, and I like hearts, but it was too easy. I did like reading it to my little sister, who's 2.
