Teddy Bedtime Reviews
-
This bathtime/bedtime book is filled with friendly faces (various teddy bears and toy animals; the moon; illustrations on book covers) and everything is done in bright, happy colors. The result is that this thing absolutely oozes a contagious happiness.
However, for a story as simple as this one, the text is lacking that certain something that would take it beyond the simplistic "teddies do this, teddies do that" narrative. There's just nothing special or memorable about the book.
As an aside: this book was published in the UK, and some of the rhymes do not work well in American English. Fun does not rhyme with on (short/long). Laugh doesn't rhyme with bath. (The author is from Kent, an area where
Th-fronting occurs and "laff/baff" do rhyme just fine.) And splashing doesn't rhyme with washing: it just looks like it should (and I suppose in British English it sort-of works). As this is a read-aloud book, the sounds need to work right, and that is not the case when I read it. -
This would be a wonderful book to read to babies and toddlers before bedtime. Very simple story with cute illustrations of animals getting read for bed.

Shared this in one year old story time, two year old story time and a 0-5 story time. Everyone really enjoyed the story. It was short, clear, relatable and easy to make interactive. I handed out teddy bears with a couple of the groups and they pretended to get their teddies ready for bed along with the story. Pairs well with Hap Palmer's "Teddy Bear Play Time" song.

Very cute illustrations but I almost wish that there were more interactive elements to this. It might have gone over a bit better in the older storytime crowd, but I think both the parents and babies enjoyed the bright illustrations and simple rhymes.

Sweet language and perfect illustrations for toddlers.

With very little text, bouncy rhymes, and colorful illustrations, this would be a great book for storytimes and one-on-one sharing for toddlers through threes.
