Ill Hold You Forever: An Adoption Story Reviews
-
An endearing and captivating little story full of heart and strong assurances - this adoption story is sure to not only bring better understanding, but also affirms a parents want, need and love for the child...
In I'LL HOLD YOU FOREVER, a little girl asks her mom, "Are you really my real mom?" The mother replies with, "I am your mom. And I am real." How very true those words are.
The story continues with the mother explaining to the little girl how she has a birthmother, and how she waited, prayed and prepared for her arrival. How her birthmother chose her and the process of bringing the little baby girl home and all the steps she took to mothering her while going through the adoption proceedings. The mother speaks to her in a way that she will understand, but also, open and honest, full of warmth and love.
I've always felt that no matter what age the child is, to show them true love one must be as honest as possible. This book supports this; it completely captures the mother's love towards her little girl. And you can really feel how she genuinely feels towards her daughter and everything that she went through to have her in her life, to become her real mother.
Overall, a heartwarming and sweet take on adoption that brought a tear to my eye. A book that can not only be shared with adopted and non-adopted families as well. It is the perfect way to have an open discussion and help your little ones better understand what and how adoption is.

I think this book has two very important purposes. First, I think it would be a wonderful book to read with a child who was adopted. It does a very good job of honoring all parts of adoption. The “Notes from the Author” section gives some great suggestions for talking to children about adoption which is a wonderful jumping off point after reading the book. Second, I think this book could be used to discuss adoption with students who are not adopted. It is so important to talk to kids about all kinds of different types of families. This book beautifully captures the power of love between a mother and her child and would be a great text for classrooms. -
This story about adoption was beautifully written and illustrated. It captures the love a mother has for her child whether adopted or biological and how real that love truly is. I speak from experience as our youngest daughter is adopted. I loved reading this book to her and being able to tell her that I am her mom and I am real as that question is such a common one in a world where adoption is not understood by so many.
