Fairy Tale Calculus: The Derivative Reviews

Fun math based fairy tale
I really like the fairy tale story. It is cute and practical for the lesson while sounding like the fairy tales you grew up with. Using fairy tales to teach advanced math is an excellent and familiar method that makes math fun. -
Interesting but short
Way too short to comprehensively explain derivatives. Would have liked to see more explanation and use of derivative rules beyond the difference quotient. -
The idea to explain such a complicated part of calculus with the help of a story is really genius. I still found part of the explanation a bit complicated - depends of how often you use the notions, which wasn't the case for me in more than 10 years - but the tale is followed by a practical part which clarifies more.

Not that close
A fairy tale to help readers understand calculus in a different and engaging way. This fairy tale tells of two trolls who find out that the closer you are the least number of people will be killed by the beast. Find out why if you read this book. With examples and problems maybe you to can understand what the derivative is.
