Awe.

It is about wonder. About accessing the amazing to express reverence, admiration. Awe like this can show up in every aspect of our lives — even those we declare as not so great.
Psychologist Nicholas Humphrey says awe forces us to reconfigure our mental model so we can make sense of what we’ve seen. It broadens us, inspires us.

Awe has the ability to awaken us. It can show us beauty and remind us who we are. It brings us closer to our purpose and passion and helps us create meaning. It helps us to live with the mystery in life, to survive the uncertainty of it all. It allows us to sink into the experience of living.

When you live in awe of your life you are open to diverse experiences. Some are easy and joyous. Others totally suck. But you are okay because you know that within every experience the possibilities are limitless.

Polly Campbell designed this book to help you engage with the awesome qualities of your life.

Do whichever exercises you want. Read this book chapter by chapter or go to the section that helps you most right now. Take what works, discard the rest.

How do you live an awesome life? No, you don't win the lottery or marry George Clooney (he's taken). Living an awesome life starts with changing the way you think and act. Instead of focusing on what you want but don't have, you start focusing on what you do have--and looking for the awesome in your everyday life. But Campbell doesn't just tell you to do it--she shows you how to do it, with loads of practical exercises, suggestions, and strategies for changing your mindset, your outlook, and ultimately your life.

It may sound kind of "woo-woo" to say that awesome is all around you, but it is--you just have to become aware of it and embrace it. Campbell suggests that you tune into what you really want--to look inside yourself and do the hard work of determining what gives you meaning--and to take steps, even small ones, to pursue that meaning. I read this book at the perfect time--when approaching 50--and it's given me plenty of "Power Up" techniques that I'm already using to slow down, tune in, respond instead of reacting, and live a more present, focused, and yes, more awesome life. I'm going to be giving copies of this book to my mom and several friends because I can't bear to part with my copy.

How to Live an Awesome Life is a very thoughtful book, full of intriguing things to ponder, questions that can bring startling clarity to situations that may have puzzled you, and understandable, comprehensive direction for you to make choices in this over-connected, crazy busy, at times less-than-awesome world.

This is one book that you don’t want to skim, but rather, dig deeply and let it lead you to a life filled with awesomeness.

Here’s the thing: Campbell is an awesome guide – she clearly outlines her points (using very human and relatable examples), and then gently brings you to think about various aspects of them, through questions, exercises, and space for consideration.

Read this book with an open mind – the potential for awesomeness in your life will pop up. Somehow, wherever you are in your life journey, this book will bring a new clarity to the way you choose to live life – and do it awesomely.

I find myself recommending How to Live an Awesome Life to just about everyone I am in contact with. It’s that thought-provoking and life-changing. I have bookmarked so many pages that the poor paperback is almost double its original size – truly, the goodness here is overflowing. Highly recommended!

After reading and greatly enjoying this author's first book, "Imperfect Spirituality," I wondered if she'd write another book, and if so, what the subject matter would be. I therefore was delighted to hear about the release of this book and really looked forward to reading it. Now that I've finished it I can say without reservation "How to Live an Awesome Life" is a gem just like her first book.

The author's conversational writing style is very engaging, and the depth and value of the material is substantial. She also is very passionate about her subject matter, which has led her to assemble a wealth of information about it. Perhaps what I enjoy most about Polly Campbell's work is that she shares herself so authentically, and never gives the impression that she is some sort of spiritual guru who has mastered life completely. She is more than willing to admit to her foibles, which is very refreshing in my view. Bottom line, I really liked this book, and highly recommend it as a personal growth resource.

I got this book from good reads first reads. It was chocked full of big heady thoughts but managed to come down to earth a bit with little reflections on life that happen for everyone (like how a new roll of tp never ends up back on the dispenser). Reading this is a good way to chase out the mental cobwebs and be thankful for life no matter what stage or where we are in it. It was a little slow going for me.
