Pakistan se BangladeshUnkahi Jad-o-Juhd Reviews
-
Written by one of the Co-conspirators of the 15 Aug 1975 coup that wiped out Mujibur Rahman and all of his family but for Sheikh Hasina, the book provides the perspective from the point of view coup plotters. Dalim was a Pakistani Army officer posted at Quetta when the East Pakistan massacres started in Mar 1971. He and two of his Bengali colleagues plotted their escape through Sri Ganganagar border into India, fought for Bangladeshi independence as a member of Mukti Bahini and then was in Bangladesh Army. Events since independence appeared chaotic with fascist leaders in control, Indo-Soviet designs on Bangladesh (according to him) and then the actions that they took! Is interesting reading in patches especially the narrative about escape from Pakistan, snippets of Bangladesh war, his marriage, showdown with goons from the Govt during another wedding celebrations, coup and the counter-coup.
Ordered on amazon.com (as the book has been published out of Lahore - for obvious reasons), with the Indian import duty, the landed cost of the book was $100 (when the cost of the book in Pakistan is Pakistani Rs 1200/-). Just as in the case of my previous experience of an English book published out of Pakistan, shoddy editing and language mars the reading experience somewhat! -
