I like Chuck Klosterman. A lot. He makes me laugh. Generally, I try not to laugh out loud when I'm reading in front of other people, but due to the increasingly diminished seat sizes on most airplanes, any shred of privacy (or dignity, for that matter) is lost as soon as the plane has been boarded.* I actually read the most recent edition of this book. Lots of footnotes, which on ocassion was helpful in terms of Klosterman's thought process. I skipped a couple of the sports pieces for Esquire but I don't really think that affected my overall reading of the collection. Klosterman's either your cup of tea or he isn't. I think this would be a good place to start in terms of variety (music, film, journalism, fiction, sports, sex, blah, blah, blah), if you're not sure. If you don't like Klosterman, this isn't going to change your mind, and if you're already a Klosterfan, well...yeah.*I kind of got felt up on the plane by an old man as I was trying to pass him to go to the lavatory. I still feel a little dirty. I haven't slept so much in the last five days. The majority of the last 48 hours have been spent in an airport, an airplane, or going to or from an airport. It's been weighing on my mind a bit. I did really enjoy this book.
