Control (Trojans MC #1) Reviews

*1.5* The 18 year age gap didn't bother me, the MC club atmosphere didn't bother me, what was annoying was the juvenile behavior of the characters.
The h's dad used to be the club president, she's grown up in the club so she knows what goes on and has no desire to be part of the club. EVER. She's been in love with a new club president since she was a teenager, and he was married. Now he's single and she's an adult, so he's determined to make her his. After one chapter of slightly protesting, suddenly she's all in.
To become a club bunny, all of the club men get to screw you in front of everyone else, like a train gang. How fun for everyone.
To become an old lady, your man gets to screw you in front of the club. Is this before or after he's initiated the club bunnies? This ott romantic stuff really tugs my heartstrings.
Here's the reasoning behind the gross rule.
"The club needs to know your place within the club. An old lady is different than a club whore, but she is taken in front of the club...."
"You're telling me you want to fuck me in a room full of men I've known my whole life, for what?"
"They'll know you're loyal to the club, to me, and then return you'll get their protection."
But that wasn't even the worst part! -
1.5 stars
I can't count the number of eye-rolls I had while reading this book. -
I am such an MC SLUT I would read Disney MC. but I don't know bout this. The sexy steam sex is by far the best or top 5 of MC. These boys like to go down, maybe because they are already down under!!!

First DNF book of 2015
DNF for now. It's a good story and I love a curvy heroine but I just can't get into it. -
Sam Crescent has very good story plots to her books but there seems to be something missing, maybe it's the lack of romance or lack of a good chase or strength of characters or likable heroines, I just need some romance or wooing in a romance novel.
I once again failed to relate to her main characters. Her heroines are insipid and weak and have no back bone. Her Hero Duke was well written but I just could not fall in love with him.
For me the missing romance let this book down, which had so much potential as the plot was great just the execution was lacking. After Holly ignoring Duke for a long time - with very good reason, suddenly he follows her into the kitchen touches her and viola she is his.....WTF?????.
She was so determined not to be an old lady and suddenly she is caving in with no resistance. What happened to standing up for what you want?. So she extracted a promise from Duke, it still felt a little shallow.
A very luke warm read for me, although the sex was hot but as I said, I like Sam's story plots and hopefully in one of her books she will actually catch my attention rather than wanting this book to end quickly.

No pictures, no clip and sure as hell no stars! The book is everything the summary says it is. With very little substance to story lines or plots. The key focal point is sex, nothing but sex and screwing in front of a club to be made into an old lady! Its the typical stereotype of how people perceive motorcycle clubs. Mild mentioning of drugs, all talk of violence even tho there isn't any, and no suspense. Predictable hoo's fighting over the brothers and ex's getting catty with their replacements. Read at your own risk!

Duke had always been drawn to Holly but she was too young and at that time he had been married. Now Holly is twenty one and rumors are swirling that she is dating a deputy in town. Duke knows the time has come to make Holly his and he knows Holly is going to put up a fight.
Holly had a the old President of the Trojans MC as a father, she knows all about club life and wants no part of it. When Duke makes his interest known, Holly pushes him away but his persistence is slowly paying off.
Exciting story, this was one of the better books I have read from this author. I thought the way Duke gives Holly time even though he knows her fate is sealed already, he makes the effort for her. Great read. -
I think what I Love about Sam Crescent's books are the fact that her women are full figured women and not these model like women.
Women that some of us can relate to, and I love it
This book was another one that I enjoyed and I can't wait to read the next one... I think I'm excited to read Pike and Mary's book! It's going to be awesome -
My first read by Sam Crescent. I think i picked a good one to start with. I am not a big fan of MC story mainly because the characters usually suck (annoying, mouthy heroine plus asshole hero do not make a page turner).
But i really like this one. Holly is a sweetheart despite being the daughter to a former MC president. Duke, well, he has a filthy mouth but an asshole he is not. The two of them together...scorching! -
That was a good start into a new series. I just devoured this book. One second I started first chapter and the next thing I know I'm at epilogue. Damn, that wasn't enough for me. I need more. Much more with all the things happening here. And not only with our H&H, but with other characters too. Curiousity is just killing me. I need next book like yesterday! Damn, Sam knows how to hook you in.
Meet our hot, hardcore Prez of the Trojans, Duke Bane. Damn, the man grabbed my heart from the begining. You just can't help but love and adore him. The way he was with Holly... His respect, loyalty, love towards her. That was just HOT. And sweet. The only way a biker can sweeten you.
And Holly is one of those H you could never be annoyed with. She's just perfect. Perfect for a man like Duke. I don't say that she didn't have her own issues with the club, even though she was born into it. But she really quickly overcome it and go after what she wanted for a long time.
And the claiming part...You know when a biker claims woman as his old lady? Well, damn, thats a smoking tradition Trojans have. That was a scorching part. Hmm, I feel a need to read that again.
Oh, and another thing I want to mention is that, that there is mentioned some names you could recognise, if you are fan of Sams previous work. One of those names I adore and the another one I hated from the begining, when it was appeared in previous books.
Curious? Go find out and fall for another biker club. -
Most of the book was just okay until we headed into the Old Lady ceremony territory, and I was like - what? Evidently to become an old lady in this particular MC, you have to have sex with your man as the entire club watches, and this is supposedly the only thing that will grant the woman full protection from the club. Now let’s also note that the heroine literally grew up in the MC, as her dad was the former club president, so these voyeuristic bikers would also be watching someone have sex that they have known since she was a baby, which makes it even more gross. And then when the heroine is told by her man about this idiotic, degrading ceremony and she understandably calls her mom upset, her MOM tells her she’ll be fine and to just go through with it. That was it for me. I have read a lot of biker books over the years, but this might be the stupidest one I have read in recent memory. If I had called up my mom, crying about an awful sexual ceremony that my boyfriend was trying to put me through, she would have done anything she could to get me away from the bastard - certainly not encouraged me to go through with it, like in this book. Ridiculous.
-
Soooo you get burnt by losing your virginity to a MC brother. He brags about it. You stay away because your embarrassed. A few years later the new president wants you and nothing but you... aaaand you give in. YEAH... no...
She states more than once that she doesn't want to be part of the MC world and yet it takes like 2 chapters for her to want nothing but him.
This book fast fast paced and not i'n a good way. It left me confused and angry.
Don't even get me started on what you have to do to be old lady.
If he truly loves you... would he really want to fuck you with an audience watching. (I know its like a initiation - I just don't care for it)
I'm very conflicted about this book. -
Update:
Re-read this 5x now, it's my go-to short mc book. It's growing on me as a comfort read and finally giving it 5 stars.
Update:
So I re-read the book as the cover is really hot (am shallow like that) and despite the ickiness of their age gap (which I don't mind in historicals), i found myself enjoying the book in the second reading. And yes, Duke is hot!
Orig review:
Kinda ewww. H was too old for h. -
Rounding up to 3.0 RATING - This isn't the worst thing I've read by this author but wasn't great either. In a field of pretty great MC reads that are available to read, this rates very low but not awful. Pretty much what you expect when you pick up a Sam Crescent read though. The ceremony for old ladies had me rolling my eyes. Completely unnecessary IMO. -
Thought this would be good as its from one of my more favoured authors. Sadly it's a DNF at 50% predictable read wishy washy characters so a thumbs down from me.
-
Ok read
This was a good story. A typical MC. It had angst, violence, sex, a little romance. Characters were strong and well developed. It is also an age gap romance. It moved a long at a good pace.
I enjoyed the read, my only issue with the book is that nothing made it stand out among all the other MC books out there. While the male characters were strong and possessive such as the norm, they didn’t pull me in and the females while strong showed their ages(21) and it just was a bit disappointing. As I said there is nothing wrong with the story but it’s not enticing me to grab book two either. -
A very action packed MC book. The younger daughter of an old MC president that's had a crush on the new club President for a long time. Can they really be together or will Holly freak and run when Duke tells her how the club takes old ladies??
-
Not very well written. Lots of unnecessary repetition of facts and thoughts. It almost seemed like a young tween style of writing, but was actually for adults.
-
What was the point of this story? What “Control” was anywhere in this plot? The blurb made it seem like the FMC was going to be reluctant throughout the story but she turned out to be ridiculously amenable to anything the MMC asked her for. The FMC had no conviction to her thoughts or beliefs or even to her dignity. After, her trauma from one of the other club members she was supposed to be withdrawing from her parents club. But did she do ANY of that in this story? NO. She did nothing but jump when the MMC asked her too. It was pathetic really. Not at all attractive or rational. A normal woman, who has a strong sense of worth, (as this character was written to be), wouldn’t do that. In chapter one she let the MMC diddle her with absolutely NO words or actions of protest. I was disgusted and couldn’t roll my eyes enough on how easy she behaved. And I’m supposed to believe she is worth “Old Lady & wife” material?
As for the “control”, what control? Seriously, what control?!? If someone is all too happy to do anything you ask is it really you doing ANY actual controlling?? Does it even count? The MMC couldn’t control his ex either or the deputy he had pretending to date the FMC before the book even started. I was really not caught in this story at all. It was crap. While I have read way worse stories than this one, it still wasn’t worth more than a single star, if that. Good luck. -
Missing something.
I do like Sam Crescent books but I have to be honest and say this was missing something for me I'm not sure exactly what, it felt a bit too predictable.
Duke and Holly, where do I start I quite liked Duke especially the way he was with Matthew and I liked that he wanted Holly so much but at times I struggled with how cold he was, I know he's president and has to keep up appearances but.. and Holly I'd have liked a little more resistance on her part after all she doesn't want to be part of the club and she definitely doesn't want to be an old lady but she just caved I would have liked Duke to have had to work for it a bit, she held out for like 2 seconds, ok maybe not the full 2 seconds.
I can't finish this review without mentioning that one part of this book was a bit too close to 'The Last Riders' for me, I didn't like that bit at all.
I have to mention this because, well....'Trojans' are condoms, and while I know Trojans aren't only condoms it seemed a strange choice of name but then again I suppose they get through a lot of condoms so maybe the club has itself a sponsorship deal!
This is an enjoyable if predictable read but not in my opinion one of her best. -
A must read
OMG, I couldn't put it down, it felt like I had just started reading it and it was over.
Definitely a good start to a new series loved the characters, could totally relate to some of the issues that happenened in the book.
You meet a hot sexy prez Duke Bane for the Trojans who is hardcore and man that just grabs your attention from the start. Gotta love a man that treats his woman right and listens to her fears and takes his time with her.
Holly is just one of those characters that you just love and want to watch how she grows. Holly has some issues with the club even though she was born into it, but damn girl you put your big panties on and worked through it.
I loved the claiming part in the book, I have not read anything like that in any other MC books I have read and thoroughly enough how different it was and I must say Hot hot hot.
You did it again Sam you have provided another book that I fell in love with and will recommend and re-read anytime.
I give you 4.5 stars as I was a little disappointed that it wasn't longer but other than that loved it and will read anything you write. -
I love this authors MC based books and I was really happy to see the start of a new spin off MC based series I really enjoyed this book and I am looking forward to this being another long running fantastic series !!

RE-READ: 22.06.18 // RATING: 2.5/5
Even though it is a nice, uncomplicated read, I am still not a fan of Duke or this whole Trojan MC. Let's say that out of all the Sam Crescent's MC books, this one is for now my least favorite. -
this was / is a great book..
would have like to have been a little bit longer but not sure how because I enjoyed it .. looking forward to the next book. hoping it's Mary's and pikes book :-) -
Sam Crescent, you have become my favorite writer of MC books! You nail the alpha male badass perfectly and the women that fall for them are strong and easy to relate to.. Thank you!!
-
great read
Short and sweet! Love the May/December romances Sam writes. She makes them flow easily and always gives me the ultimate alpha male role lust after! -
Sooooo its nothing new that we have another panty wetting success. Duke and Holly yes baby. This is definitely a must read.
-
A good Sam Crescent alpha biker story with heroine lots younger than him. Lots of smexy sex! Lots. :) Enjoy.
