"Look, my dear, we have our very own Christmas tree," said Mr. Mouse. "And, the very biggest!" said Mrs. Mouse. Hundreds of people looked back up at the tree, while the mice watched the skaters below. They were country mice. The tree was their home. Now they found themselves in the heart of New York City, Rockefeller Center. When Mr. And Mrs. Mouse's tree is chosen to be the very special Rockefeller Center Christmas tree, the two little country mice find themselves in the bustling world of great big New York City. There they experience all of the wonder of their lively new home, go ice-skating at Rockefeller Center, window-shopping at FAO Schwarz, eat pretzels and chestnuts, hitch a ride on a horse-drawn carriage in Central Park-- they do it all! And then they receive the most precious gift of all--a family.

my mom found this at a library book sale and picked it up because she loved the illustrations. I gave it a read and it made me, a 26 year old woman, emotional (and it’s not even December yet)

We really loved this beautifully illustrated story of two mice who are unexpectedly relocated to New York City when their home is cut down and brought to Rockefeller Center. At night they go sightseeing, but one night they must duck into the cathedral because it's time for Mrs. Mouse to have her babies. There are too many people inside the church so they go out to the yard and tuck into the manger scene. The next day they are visited by many animals. At first they're a little worried, but the animals explain that there is peace on earth between all animals because it is Christmas. The mice bring their babies back to the tree the next day. Some time passes and they feel their house shaking. The tree is being taken down! They don't have time to move, so off they go with the tree into a truck and are taken away! What happens to the mouse family? Don't worry, it's a very happy ending! We really enjoyed this sweet story that parallels the journey of Mary and Joseph and the baby Jesus. There is so much detail in the illustrations. This was such a good library find for the Christmas season.
