Derek always figured it'd be Stiles's recklessness and sheer disregard for his own safety that caused them to break up.
He's wrong about that.
It turns out they break up because Stiles is a lying liar who lies.

Quick, grab this Sterek and put it underneath your Christmas tree!
I can't even...
PS ideas how to bribe her into writing Steter, anyone? -
Derek and Stiles have been dating for three months, and there are countless of things Derek loves about Stiles.
His fingers, his mouth, the way some part of him is always in motion. Fuck. Derek could watch him for hours. He’s gorgeous.
He loves even those things that drive him crazy.Stiles does reckless shit all the time, and Derek loves that about him, he loves that he’s so brave, but he hates it too.
But Derek is kind of a pessimist. It’s like he is waiting for a disaster to happen.Derek knows it’s too good to last.
So when Stiles is obviously lying to him, he behaves like a fool. Thankfully, there are sane people around him...
“That thing about communicating?” Peter taps his fingertips on the arm of the couch. “You could try it with Stiles as well, you know.”
The writing is brilliant! The storyline might be a cliché – trouble comes from misunderstanding – but it is very enjoyable. The story is told from Derek’s viewpoint, and he is so sweet! And stupid. Not that Stiles is unblameable! And the reunion is heart-melting.
Lovely story, recommended!

Stiles and Derek are moronic morons who moron.
Or why I dislike the "Big Misunderstanding" plot line. 'Cause it doesn't matter how much I love two characters, I don't care if those characters have all sorts of understandable reasons for not communicating--if they're two morons who seem incapable of having a simple, honest conversation I will want to beat the shit out of them. And that's not a feeling I particularly enjoy.
And yet....I love Derek's POV. I love experiencing Derek's love for Stiles (you got good taste, dude). I love the discussion about lying that resulted from the Big Misunderstanding. I like the mentions of all the ways Derek thought their relationship would end. I like that Stiles acts like an actual 17 year old (aka like a moron). I like that Derek acts much as I would expect him to in such a situation (self fulfilling prophecy of doom moron). I like that DW took a rather cliched plot and used it to further explore 2 characters I love. I love PETER--something I don't normally make a habit of, but I loved his characterization.
So, yeah, lots of good shit here. Even with a couple of morons.
P.S. Also, I dislike cats. Not that I'd take off points for that--but if I did, they'd get added back for the cat's name: Xena, Warrior Princess. That's awesome.

Funny, and sweet. I really loved the discussions about lying, and how being able to sense when someone is lying to you isn't always an asset. Peter's part actually brought tears to my eyes. Loved the relationships between the pack, not just Stiles and Derek.
-
Derek is right. Stiles is wrong. And yeah, you do stupid shit when you're in love. *smacks Stiles upside the back of his head*
Note: Not a huge fan of misunderstandings or cats. -
Omg really?!
*flops down onto the couch*
I'm kinda sorta slain right now.
I loved getting Derek's point of view. I loved getting inside his... difficulties.
And the ending?
*contented sigh*
It's why I flopped and sunk and kinda sorta melted.
Just because you're sweating and burning up at Christmas time doesn't mean ya gotta make us suffer, too, DW. :p
Except... yeah, ya got another prezzie for us tomorrow, which is today for you?
*bats eyelashes*
ETA: now there's a cover, that cover. Now I'm definitely slain, no kinda sorta about it. -
Definition of lying:
Stiles lies to Derek and Derek assumes the worst. Silly couple - I love them anyway. And Peter is actually kind of awesome. -
Derek’s POV
-
Oh my poor, poor insecure, no communication ability Sourwolf. I do love you.
Got me in the feels a bit there.
Totally one of the best Christmas presents I received!
Oh, and Peter, you'll do. -
4.5 Stars
I for one enjoy established couple fics most of the time… and I certainly have no issue when it comes to these two.
I loved that this was in Derek's POV and how he slowly reveals and catalogues all that he loves about Stiles (I feel the same way Derek). This definitely pushed my angst button a lot as you witness Derek struggle with amusement, befuddlement and awe - and really has no say in the inexplicable pull he has toward the gangly, awkward guy he has fallen so hard for. Such strong feels also bring about fear and insecurity - and when Derek knows Stiles lies to him, his fatalistic attitude turns into anger and suspicion, which of course snowballs.
Insightful, truthful, hurt-so-good. Loved it. -
Shocking news!! Lisa Henry made me cry.
This time because of a kitten.
It's impressive really.
A sore heart Sterek with misunderstanding and a really lovely Derek POV. -
Lisa Henry is spoiling me with these fanfics! I usually don't like reading from Derek's POV as much, but it worked really well in this case. The plot was predictable, but not in a bad way. I saw the angst coming from a mile away, and knew I just had to weather it to get to the happy resolution. Both Stiles and Derek were to blame for their relationship crisis, which made it more realistic.
The glimpses of Peter made me even more excited about her upcoming Steter fic than I already was. I'm pretty sure there will be squeeing when it's finally posted. -
I heart Lisa Henry, man she has got knack for this fandom. Not my usual Sterek read, but it was great. Established relationship, misunderstanding, sweet apologies reunite. Derek didn't feel as "Derek-y" to me in this, but loved him all the same. It is from his POV and Derek has a hard POV to write - few Sterek authors have pulled it off well. They have an implied sexual relationship, but it is PG in these few pages. And two thumbs up for how Peter is portrayed in this, one of his moments even gave me the misty-eyed sniffles.

Very funny fanfic. Communication is always good in a relationship. Hope the kitty will warm up to Derek.
Can't wait to read more Teen Wolf and Sterek fan fiction!!!! -
Did you see we got another Christmas gift today, Derek?
-
Wow. I really love discontentedwinter. Another great read.
-
SOOOOOOOO stinkin' CUTE!!! Just normal relationship stuff. Yes, a miscommunication. But not a crazy OTT or unrealistic one. No supernatural shenanigans. Just sweet and then sad, and perfect.
-
Sterek for Boxing day - awesome. Tight plotting, without excess words or characters. Tight characterisation, deftly portrayed with minimum fuss. And all the feels with Derek's vulnerable side on display and Stiles' righteous anger reflecting his strength.
But ultimately, they cannot resist each other. Compromise, love, and trust - all a boy wants, really. -
I don't mind the whole misunderstanding storyline. It can be painful if it takes a long time to be resolved but thankfully it was a quick read with only a little angst. Another great read from DiscontentedWinter.
-
Stiles you ninny!! As the older one, Derek should be smarter and more direct but he is also a moody werewolf who suffers from trust issues. Frustraing misunderstandings ensue.

Adorable:))

Another great episode in the life of Stiles and Derek, this short story is told by Derek, and I loved that. I've gotten a pretty good idea what goes on in Stiles's mind (in case you're wondering: a LOT!) in
Balloon Animals Are Awesome, so to see their relationship from Derek's point of view was a treat.
Derek is a werewolf and, as it turns out, particularly sensitive to lying. As it turns out, his definition of lying, as well as his attitude toward it, is a little different from Stiles's. Derek is also very quick to jump to conclusions and not so talented in the communications department. Can you see where this is leading? What I particularly liked was Derek's growly alphaness coming through between the lines. He makes some things very explicit, but others - not so much.
A great installment and I look forward to the next one! -
That cover! And Stiles rescuing the poor kitten in the storm drain! The adorableness is just adorable! I'm not such a fan of the big misunderstanding, but I appreciated that it was tagged, so I knew to expect it going in. I also figured it'd be worth it for the kitty. It completely was. So cute.
Some Favorite Quotes:
Derek is equal parts in love and in total exasperation with Stiles.
And he does recless shit all the time, and Derek loves that about him, he loves that he's so brave, but he hates it too.
"Dude, you were scary for a few months, until I realized that every time you got all rough and growly, I got a boner. Then you were just fucking hot."
Every time Stiles walks back into his door is an affirmation that he wants to be there. -
Ugh. It's so hard to rate this one! Because, on one hand, the emotions this story evoked? Tears, people. Just sayin'. On the other hand (...and anyone who's paid any attention at all to my reviews and rants knows) I HATE miscommunication as a plot device. So much. So, so much.
So...middle of the road in rating for me then. Though it would have easily been 4 stars if not for that. -
Why wasn't this marked as read already?? I know I read it the day it was posted! And it was totally cute, with a bit of angst, and the dreaded misunderstanding, but so great.

One of my favorite fan fiction authors!!!

Almost made up for ripping my heart out with my last Sterek read... -
Sweet and cute and overall quite nice Sterek!

I love werewolves, I love M/M and I love relationship building and progression. This one is great as well.

The mystery wasn't so much a mystery. And this whole debacle could have easily been avoided had they simply... communicated.
Stiles was less present in the book. While in other stories I could feel Stiles' personality even when told from Derek's pov, here he seemed less shiny, barely there. I wanted to fall in love with this but I'll settle for the story just being good.
