A Charming Neighbour Reviews

  • The Celtic Rebel (Richard)

This is an interesting story with a nice little twist at the end. From start to end a great short story.

  • P.S. Winn

Clever little short story as readers meet John Hambleton-Smith and his neighbor Rick Anderson. Rick is a good neighbor and watches John house when John leaves on vacations, but the story heads on a different path and twists just right at the end to make readers give a bit of a sarcastic smile.

    Fast read

A fast read, indeed. It left me wanting more of the story. Hopefully, there will be more from this author. Will look for JB.

Dude has a serious issue with the word "vapid". I didn't find the story interesting at all. Two things about this: one, who uses the word "vapid" in conversation if they aren't seventy-years-old, and two, why'd John flip out so bad when all his neighbor said was "he's nice but dull". Like I said, dude has issues, but that doesn't explain why he did what he did.

I downloaded a copy of this E-Book while it was free on Amazon. This is my personal Review.

    Book Notes:
    Format: E-book
Title: A Charming Neighbour - An OK title.
Cover: Reflecting staircases - I like it.

    About the Book:
John's wife thought he was 'vapid'. John disagreed. Years later, the divorced John lives a content life in a nice neighborhood and gets along well with his neighbors, that's until he overhears something displeasing.

    My Review:
John was an ordinary man with an ordinary life. While on vacation something terrible happens. A twist ensues and the reader then learns what a strange man John actually is. It was a quick and easy read with an okay plot twist.

Quote that best sums up the story:

“Now, that’s what I call a good neighbour,” he said.

John Hambleton-Smith was preparing for his annual holiday. He had his neighbor, Rick Anderson watch his house while he was away. He offered his wine cellar to Rick to use while he was gone. Rick happily agreed.

I received a complimentary copy from Amazon. That did not change my opinion for this review.

    Excellent

A wonderful piece of flash fiction. The subtle creepiness of the story is absolutely amazing. I'd highly recommend this book to people looking to dip into the genre. 😊

    Interesting...

This is an interesting little story with a lovely twist. I can see why it won an award.

I did find the warning to readers about British spelling a bit odd though. I'm assuming that only the most thoroughly vapid reader wouldn't figure that out…
