Ellie Krieger, New York Times best-selling and multi-award-winning author, has written a cookbook devoted to the kind of recipes that her fans have been waiting for—make-ahead meals. For those who are always short on time when it comes to cooking, Ellie is here to help. Her recipes—which include breakfast bakes, soups, salads, casseroles, and more—can all be prepared ahead of time, making putting food on the table that much easier. Each recipe includes instructions for refrigerating and/or freezing as well as storing and reheating directions. With exciting dishes like the Pumpkin Spice Overnight Oats in Jars and the Herbed Salmon Salad, you’ll be able to have meals ready days in advance. As with her other books, all of Ellie’s recipes are healthy and come complete with nutrition information. But that doesn’t mean they sound like diet food! Just look at the Creamy Tomato Soup, Chicken Enchilada Pie, and Smoky Smothered Pork Chops, to name a few. You Have It Made helps you turn your fridge and freezer into a treasure chest of satisfying, good-for-you meals.

3.5 stars.
I picked up this kindle cookbook for a bargain, it was on sale for $1.99 one day over the Holidays on amazon .
I will admit that I already own three other print books by Ellie (So Easy, Comfort Food Fix and The Food You Crave). I really like her healthy and easy to make approach to recipes. Some are regular staples in my repertoire. She may be a dietician but flavor is definitely important to her.
On initial reading of this book a few recipes stood out that I would like to try but I wasn't bookmarking as much as I would have expected or liked to. Also there wasn't a dessert section (absolutely no idea why??) included in this book, hence the 3.5 star rating.
Standout recipes for me are:
Butternut Squash and Apple Soup
Chilled Honeydew and Toasted Almond Milk Soup (not sure what it will taste like, but I want to try it)
Creamy Tomato Soup (uses cashews instead of milk or cream)
Beef and Bean Burrito
Cheeseburger-Stuffed Twice-Baked Potatoes (great superbowl recipe and it will be happening soon)
Lettuce Wraps with Beef and Tofu in Ginger-Scallion-Peanut Sauce
Chicken Enchilada Pie
Chicken Puttanesca Pasta Bake
Grilled Chicken and Vegetable Parmesan with Simple Marinara Sauce( full of tasty vegetables)
Hero-Food-Stuffed Peppers
African Peanut Stew . -
Last year I spent an entire weekend batch cooking. It was a lot of work, but rewarding because we had a month of ready-made meals. It was my first time to do so and after the fact, I realized that nearly every recipe I had chosen was laden with pasta, cheese and meat. After a while, I got tired of eating such heavy meals. When this book was announced I *knew* I had to get it because it's an entire book of ideas on freezer-friendly/advance preparation meals that are HEALTHY. The breakfast section in particular I'm excited about as I struggle finding things that are packed with protein and fiber that I can make quickly before work.

Ellie Krieger, The Washington Post’s doyen of healthy deliciousness, brings us a cookbook for busy cooks to prepare meals in advance for freezing. But, despite the title, this cookbook is really a two-for-one; virtually, all of the recipes can be served as soon as they’re done, some even on a weeknight. With You Have It Made, you really will, whether you’re freezing for a future dinner or serving it up that very night. Highly recommended.

Ellie Krieger is my favorite, so I was very excited to read any try the recipes in her new book. I love the convenience of having meals in the freezer. Her meals are healthy, easy, and something I'm really excited to pull out if the freezer and eat. I highly recommend the book!

I like Ellie Krieger ' s cookbooks for several reasons: the recipes are tasty and healthy; each recipe includes both serving size and nutritional content, so accurate food tracking/menu planning is possible; no artificial ingredients are used; and higher fat or sugary ingredients are leveraged in such a way that you can enjoy them without going overboard.
Although I regularly cook on the weekends for the whole week, in addition to some delicious recipes I did also pick up some new (to me) ideas for how to store and reheat premade meals.
Oh, and yes, I do read a good cookbook cover to cover! -
I used to love watching Ellie on the Food Network. We cook in similar ways so I find her very inspirational. I try to take tasty recipes and make them healthier but substituting the less healthy ingredients with better options. I got about 8 delicious recipes from this book and I can't wait to try some of them. One in particular that I'm excited about is a spin on calorie heave Spanakopita. Ellie calls hers Greek Mixed Greens Pie with Phyllo Crust. What makes this book even better is every recipe includes nutrition information and instructions on how to reheat from the frig or freezer. I wish every recipe contained these pieces of information.

Yum. The recipes look delicious and many of them are gluten free or could easily be converted.

Celebrity chef, registered dietician, and TV host Ellie Krieger makes great food--healthy, delicious, real food--and teaches us all how to follow her user-friendly guidelines and recipes. With "You Have It Made: Delicious, Healthy, Do-Ahead Meals", she offers 150 wonderful recipes and shows us how to prep, make ahead, store, thaw, heat, and cook foods that make the most of our meal preparation time. These make-ahead recipes hit what Ellie calls "the sweet spot"--where delicious and healthy meet. She also advises that she gives you complete directions to "successfully refrigerate and/or freeze it, as well as serve it when you are ready". What types of dishes are included? The author has her own Golden Rule: No foods are "Off Limits". However, she does categorize foods into three distinct groups: "Usually", "Sometimes", and "Rarely". "Usually" is for the healthiest foods which are used most often. "Sometimes" foods are used occasionally to add flavor and variety. "Rarely" foods are used infrequently in small amounts but still make an impact. The roster of recipes her is quite varied, offers nutritional breakdowns, and includes such treats as these: "Family Favorite Granola"; "Apple-Cinnamon Baked Oatmeal"; "English Muffin Breakfast Pizzas"; "Honey-Nut Energy Bars"; "Four Bean Salad"; "Spring Pea Salad"; "Southwestern Layered Salad"; "Cranberry Chicken Salad"; "Shrimp and Snow Pea Salad"; "Chicken and Wild Rice Soup"; "Butternut Squash and Apple Soup"; "Tuscan Seven Vegetable Soup"; "Cheeseburger-Stuffed Twice Baked Potatoes"; "Pork Tenderloin with Mustard-Apricot Sauce"; "Chicken-Broccoli Brown Rice Casserole"; "Asian Shrimp Cakes with Avocado-Wasabi Sauce"; "Spinach and Pesto Lasagna Roll-Ups"; "Roasted Autumn Vegetables"; and "Sweet Potato-Vegetable Bake". You truly will "Have It Made" with a kitchen full of fast, flavorful, fabulous meals made by your family's favorite home chef--you!

Five Star Flavors from
Ellie Krieger
Ellie Krieger has kicked my cooking up a bunch of notches. Preparing meals ahead of time and freezing is a main feature of You Have it Made, but most importantly the flavors are outstanding. My family has been pleasantly surprised by my meander through this book. I’ve built up my stagnant cooking repertoire with new favorites, and continue to try recipes with joy. This book has unearthed my dying love of cooking, turned a burdensome chore into a exciting exploration, and given me confidence in the kitchen that I lost somewhere along the way. It’s removed the stress I often felt about having my parents over for dinner, making hosting dinner purely fun. Thank you Ellie Krieger!

The information on storing, thawing and reheating was invaluable and for that I would give this book 5 stars, but the recipes were just not for me. I found less than 10 recipes in the 340+ pages I would actually cook, so 3 stars from me. This book was just meant for someone else.

I love this author, health advisor and cook. Many of her recipes are my go to recipes. Wish I could see more of her on TV. I modify some of the recipes in this book because I'm only cooking for two but they are worth the time and effort.
-
I'm always a fan of Krieger's solid tips (and this book has plenty of those) but the recipes seem lacking and, in a few cases, don't seem like they will work. I got some good ideas from this cookbook, but no good recipes.
-
Since I'm cooking for 20+ people for Thanksgiving 3 hours from where I live, this seemed like the perfect cookbook. It was.

This book was such a great idea!!!! What is even better is that it is a make ahead so the book is great for busy people or families who are on the go. I loved the breakfast part of it. It all looked and sounded so yummy. I enjoyed the different sections. What was great about all of the recipes is that most of them had pictures and at the end of the recipe there were tips on freezing. Since this is a make ahead cookbook, i thought that was really smart to put that in there. Most of the time people think that is common sense but you never know. I think that I am totally going to have to buy this.

This is a great book. If you've read other prep-ahead books, there isn't much about her methods that's new (though she gives instructions for both refrigerating and freezing). The food is family friendly, pretty easy to prepare and she gives full nutritional information.
I thought the breakfast and fish chapters were strong. I cannot believe that the crab artichoke cheesy casserole is as healthy as it is! -
I was really hoping for more from this book. I thought the recipes were good but they were not really the do-ahead meals I was hoping for. I wanted more freezer meals and less "this can sit in the refrigerator for 3 days".
-
The mac and cheese cups sound amazing.
-
Pulled a few recipes that looked good to try. Not a lot that my kids would eat.
