Disney Frozen: A Frozen Heart Reviews

  • Banny Kirsten Marie Reviews

I was thirteen whenever this movie hit theaters and i watched it four times in a row per day… Everyday i would always hear Anna singing "Do you want to build a snowman?" or "Love is an open door!" reading this book brought back childhood memories but i was not like i expected and it was everything like the movie with maybe a few simple changes here and there.

This book was a particularly slow read for me and i am not sure why because i read pretty quick if i set my mind to it but i think Hans side of the story throws the whole story off. In my opinion the story should have just had onestory but instead it had two.

Anna of course is sent off to look for her sister after she froze the little town of Arendell while Hans must stay behind and lok after the people to make sure that no one freezes. Older sister Elsa has been blessed with some pretty special magic that she nearly killed Anna with. As a younger child Anna and Elsa were best friends but after a very tragic incident then Elsa is forced to shut Anna out makeing her feel sad and neglected. Ana and Elsa's parents are killed after a storm hit durning a sea voyage. Elsa automatically claims position as queen which forces her to open up the castle gates and letting people in to see her become Queen Elsa of Arndell... Anna's memory had been wiped the day that Elsa almost killed her so for years she never knew of the magic that her sister possesed.

Durning the quorination party is whenever Elsa's secret is revealed to all who attended the party. In my opinion Anna was very desperate to find love and she was not very picky whenever it came to men. I think Anna would have automatically married Elvis Presley or Steven Tyler if she was asked. Instead we see a prince come into the picture Prince Hans of the Suthern Isles a borning, brainless, disrespectful pig who only pretends he knows how to treat a lady. Anna met Hans as he accidentally pushed her on the streets of Arendell. They both laugh together and Hans saves Anna from falling whenever she was almost tripped durning Elsa's party.

Note to Self: Never let my daughter get engaged to a man that is super sweet on the first day!

Of course Han's claims to love Anna and Anna realy feels like she loves Han's but little does the little princess know that he was just after the crown and the throne and not after Anna's heart. The two sisters talk about Anna marrying a man that she just met and everything gets out of control… Elsa exposes herself and then runs away which leads Anna and a man named Kristoff and a reindeer to help find her.

There is so much more to this tale but i will let you read the wrest in the book because right now i am intrested in shareing my opinion.

My favorite character either had to be Olaf or Marshmallow… Yes its true that Marshmellow only makes an apperance once or twice in the book but he was cute and so was Olaf the snowman. Has anyone seen the scene in the movie where Olaf is walking and then he looks down at himself and notices a big icicle has run him threw the middle so he laughs and goes "Would you lok at that… I have been impelled." I love that short little scene or the one wher Anna collapses in Kristoffs arms so they jump on the back of Sven the reindeer andOlaf says "Lets go kiss Han's! Who is this Han's?" That part cracks me up as well.

I feel like the author could have done more with the book… What you ask? Well i am not sure and i cannot put my finger on it but something was wrong and as much as i wanted to enjoy this book it was not a five star read. Yes i did get angry whenever Han's tried to kill Elsa and Ana and yes i did laugh at Olaf whenever he was supposed to be funny but something in my gut was teling me that this was not the book for me. I enjoyed the movie so much moremaybe because it was the music that i fell in love with and not the book because i am a singer and i love to sing disney music so possibly whenever i opened the story and saw no musici kind of lost intrest.

This was most definatly not a one or two star read it is worth moore then that and it is honestly not worth just three stars so i am going to give it a 3.5 because i love Disney princesses and as far as i dknow a lot of people do so the story is stil a recommendation i just will not be picking it up again unless it is for my kids one day.

    My Rateing
    3.5/5

One last thing… Does anyone want to build a snowman this weekend?

I really wanted to like this book because I loved Frozen. But it isn't a retelling, or a story that goes into a lot more detail like I was hoping, although you do get a little more information about Hans in the beginning. It's really just a book version of the movie even down to most of the same dialogue. As a mom who has seen the movie more times than I can count, it made this a read that kind of wasted my time. For a little girl obsessed with the movie though, this might be just the thing!

Told from the perspective of Anna and Hans, A Frozen Heart goes about Anna and her sister Elsa. Elsa has special powers, namely she can create ice/snow. Anna didn't know about this until the coronation of Elsa. Anna meets Hans at the coronation of Elsa and she wanted to say yes immediately when he asked to marry her. Anna wanted to ask Elsa's permission and that went bad. Elsa creates an eternal winter in Arendelle and runs away. Can Anna convince her sister to come back?

I don't know why, but I expected much more from this book. I had hoped that we got to know more than just the extra bits of Hans and Anna's thoughts. I thought they were going to tell more about the story and the characters, then in the movie. If I hadn't seen the movie, I probably would have given this book 5 stars instead of 4. However, I am glad that I can show off this book on my bookshelf!

One thing I also want to say is that in my version (Hardcover in English) there are many typos and that's really annoying...

    {3.5 stars.}
And I thought the beginning of the Movie hurt my heart.
    Ha.
This book starts off with Anna,5, and The Accident™. Anna walks up after with all of Elsa's stuff missing from their room, not understanding what's going on, the poor girl.
A few chapters in, it goes to Ten Years Later and introduces Hans,17. It ends that section with Anna getting the news that her parents are gone, then three years later and the main start of the movie starts in this book.
So, this book kinda hurt my heart like the first time I watched Frozen. It is weird, for me, at least, to take this book as canon and not like a well-done fanfic. This book reveals the names of Anna's father, Anna's horse, some of Hans' brothers and the Duke of Weaselton's goons. ;)
I know Hans' backstory should have made me feel a bit more sympathetic, but really. I just don't like him. At all. Backstory or no.
Overall, it was a decent read for this Frozen fanatic, but I could have done without some of the content mentioned below.

Content wise: Mentions of killing (of course, though Hans does say he's never killed anyone before); a few mentions of wineglasses filled with (we assume) wine; a "lost god knows where", a "oh, good god, man", and a mention of a godforsaken place; A couple mentions of someone & other saying and discussing that "there's no such thing as miracles"; A mention of being the butt of jokes; A mention of a sign/door hitting someone on their butt; A couple mentions of Hans' brothers and their wives habit of reproducing.

Definitely the best book I've read so far in 2016! Disney stole my heart. ♡

Super schattig.

I cannot express how much I love the Frozen franchise and this book brought that home for me

  • Paige

Honestly bumped this up a rating because it’s Frozen and I love all things Frozen but otherwise it was pretty boring and almost like reading the movie, but not in a good way. Also it was one of the worst produced audiobooks I’ve listened to. The narrator sounded different time to time and the editing was so obvious.

  • Jillyn

Oh dear. This definitely wasn't what I anticipated. I was so excited when I saw that this book was coming out. I adore Disney films, and though I don't think Frozen deserved quite all the hype that it got, I still enjoyed it well enough. I was eager to read Frozen Heart because I thought maybe it would explore the world of Anna and Elsa with a bit more depth and complexity... But that wasn't the case.

This book follows the movie almost to a tee. There is one character who gets a bit more insight and explanation, and that's Hans. That's it. That little bit of insight, for a character that I still don't like, isn't enough for me to recommend reading this story. If you've seen the movie, you have gotten the gist of it.

Not only was it almost a film script, but I didn't even find it particularly well written. It felt very much like a cash-grab for Disney, to pump out a book about Frozen to help feed the mania. And, well it worked since I read it. But it was choppy and a bit dull. That could also be because I was playing the movie in my head.

Now I understand that I'm not the main demographic for this book. If you have a younger child who is obsessed with all things Frozen and princesses, or who is easing into reading bigger books, then this might be the book for you. But if you're looking for something in addition the the film's plot, I think you'll be disappointed.

I received a copy from Disney Press in exchange for my honest review. This review can also be found on my blog,

    frozen is my weakness, ok?

I have a confession to make. I've only seen "Frozen" once while I was on a plane jet-lagged. From what I remember of the movie I liked it. I figured that since I haven't seen the movie I should read the novelization and then re-watch it.

Writing a novel based off of a movie is a difficult task. You have to closely adhere to the movie script yet make the story your own and not quote the movie line by line. Rudnick did manage to accomplish this I'll give her that.

The writing for the most part was decent. The story progressed well and the characters were very drawn out - even more than they were in the movie. However, towards the last third of the book the writing was beyond sloppy. It was so poorly written and lagging that it just ruined the story for me enough to knock the rating down one full star. It's sad as I feel Rudnick could have done more with the ending despite having to follow the movie script.

Overall, I'd say this books is more for kids or people who are obsessed with "Frozen". Beyond that, just watch the movie - you won't miss much with this one.

Hans deserved a redemption arc in Frozen 2. I have been saying this for like. Years, and I stand by it, even after reading this.

I enjoyed this book, but I feel like the author didn't put a lot of thought into some of Hans's motivations? Like, I don't know. There was motivation, yes, but the way he was written sometimes felt off. Maybe that's just me, though.

Anna irritated me a little, but I still enjoyed this book.

It's a little on the younger side of YA, which makes sense considering it's a novelization of a kids movie. I just kind of wish we had a Frozen retelling that went a lot darker, if that makes sense. A Frozen retelling that wasn't afraid to be dark and dangerous and terrifying.

This was like reading the movie! It wasn't exactly line for line (which made it feel like it's own story instead of just a kind of retelling) and it was really interesting to see the protagonist and antagonists' point of view.

We all know the story of Frozen (if not, I highly recommend going and just buying it because you will watch it a few dozen times). In the story, we see the "love story" of Anna and Hans, told in alternating point of view chapters. I really enjoyed seeing things from Hans' point of view. Since the story in the movie focused mainly on Anna, we didn't really stop to think about Han's motivation for his actions. We get a nice back story and it almost made me feel sorry for the guy. He and Anna ended up having a lot in common; they both wanted to be free. Hans just ended up going about it the wrong way. But I felt myself thinking.... can I really blame him?

The book was a quick read and, like I said, it follows the movie pretty well. It just was interesting to see inside the heads of the two characters and that's really what makes it special. If you enjoyed the movie, you will enjoy this book :)

  • Liza Koppens

It's just the story of frozen written out. I liked it but was nothing really new.

And I'm not shure if I lile the adition of Hans his pov. Most of the info it gave was something I already new and he acted really strange. From maybe liking Anna and feeling like he could spend the rest of his life with her (for the crown but still) to I am going to let you die becouse reasons. Nah... The moment he just switched, and not just to the putside world but in his own head, I was kindoff done with his chapters.

To finish of on a good note. I liked knowing what Anna was thinkin. Specially when she thrown herself infront of a Sword to save her sister, and just before she hit Hans Square in the face. (Wich i would have loved to do).

If you really love the movie, you will probably love this book.
I was oke with the movie. And the book wasnt much different. But that is totally fine.

Princesses/sisters Elsa and Anna reconnect after being estranged for years. What was the catalyst? And, will Elsa finally learn how to harness her powers?

"Love is putting someone else's needs before yours."

This middle grade retelling of the Frozen movie was a quick, comfort type of read, and I enjoyed it.

"Some people are worth melting for."

(I should note that I received this as an ARC from my local bookstore.) If you want to read the novelization of Disney's Frozen then this is the book for you! Honestly I was a little disappointed with this ARC as I thought is was another in the series that Disney was putting out where the villains win. Other than that it was okay, I've mostly gotten past my Frozen mania. I would have enjoyed it more if it had either been released soon after the movie, or hadn't followed it almost down to a T. It did however give more insight to Prince Hans' life and his decisions leading up to and through the "movie" parts of the book. It made him even more of a dislikeable character because of it, in my eyes. I would recommend it to those who are super die-hard fans of the movie, but if you've grown used to it don't bother reading.

  • Lindz.

I'm not going to lie. I very much enjoyed this expansion on the lore of frozen. I've been a fan since the movie came out, and Elsa has always been one of my favorites. Mostly because get ice powers are a metaphor for anxiety. This story is told in alternating POV of Anna and Hans. It makes Anna more relatable and understandable as to her being naive. And Hans.... we get a crash course on why he's so.... cold. His upbringing. Not just him, his entire family is pretty much garbage. And when I say garbage I meant the King of the Southern Isle.... I wanna write fan fiction and kill him. At the end of the day I enjoyed getting into Hans mind, his motives and actions. The lore made my mind burst with visions of Arendelle. I loved this!

  • Alex

Alright, so this book was really good, but it was merely a retelling of Frozen with more Hans and less singing.

It finally gave an insight (and confirmed some headcanons) on Hans' background and motive, but there was no point of view for Kristoff or Elsa.

And mostly, the Anna chapters were the plot line of the movie. We knew most of it.

It was still a really good book, and I mean, Hans, so...

  • Kristen

Okay. This book was cute. I like Frozen, but part of the time I felt like I was just watching the movie. I was hoping for a little more background on other characters. I loved learning Hans background, but we pretty much already knew a lot of what was covered on Anna. I want to know more about Kristoff too. Still, if you love Frozen, you will love this book! ❄️

  • Marjolein

I don't know why, but I had expected more of this book. I really liked the Hans parts, trying to give us more insights in why he does what he does and giving more of his background, but the Anna parts are mostly a retelling of a movie that probably everyone who picks up this book already saw and thet feels redundant.

  • Natalie

Well... basically it was like reading the movie but with some insight into Hans. I still hate him. I would rather it be in Elsa's POV. This is a cute book for a kid, but not me. I'll give it to my niece.

A fun and surprisingly well-written novelization of the recent Disney blockbuster.

  • Katherine

It’s a Frozen book, and I love Frozen, so I enjoyed it. I do think this is one of the weaker Frozen chapter books though, hence the 4 stars and not 5. Unless you’re really, really into Frozen and just want to read all the Frozen books you can find, I’d suggest giving A Frozen Heart a skip and go for the Twisted Tales book Conceal Don’t Feel, or Forest of Shadows.

I do not give one little crap about Hans, so half this book (and all of the new content not included in the movie) being from his POV did not help, lol. It just confirms my opinions about him being a manipulative horrible person honestly. Anna’s half is mostly just a retelling of the movie events, which is fine since I enjoy movie novelizations, but I just feel like it could have been done better.

...also major lack of Elsa, she is completely relegated to side character here and I would much, much rather have had half the book be her POV than that of Hans. Lol. To be fair, I think that would have ruined the whole comparison between Anna’s and Hans’s reaction to their circumstances, but... *shrug*

Eh. I’m not disappointed, but I do think some of the other Frozen chapter books are better:)

  • Elizabeth Anne Andrews

Written in alternating chapters, A Frozen Heart, is the story of Anna and Hans's relationship.

    I recommend for ages 10+.

This really didn't leave much of an impression on me. It was a fun read, but I don't feel any differently about any of the characters or the story in general.

I think I would have liked it more if I didn't know how it ended. But if I didn't know how it ended, Hans parts wouldn't work.

And now I just dislike Hans more, after hearing his side of the story. He is such a whine-ball. He makes no effort to better himself or the world around him and is the most selfish character EVER.

Anna's part made up for it, though. Sort of. Except when her brain got all preachy.
