Written by acclaimed herb experts, this handsome and fact-packed compendium is a don't-miss for both gardeners and cooks. Not only does it feature the classic culinary herbs, but also the up-and-coming and hard-to-obtain varieties at the heart of the new international cuisine. From epazote (used in Mexican and Southwestern entrees), to fenugreek (an essential in Middle Eastern dishes), these plants go beyond the purely ornamental to bring you fresh, exciting tastes and aromas. Assure yourself of having a plentiful supply by following the tips on starting herbs from seed, growing them in containers, and preserving them for year-round use. Design a garden that looks beautiful, with contour and contrast, and that has an irresistible mixture of color and scent. A huge illustrated encyclopedia of gourmet herbs provides cultivating and cooking guidance, and recipes for scrumptious meals--like bruschetta, arroz verde, and Asian sate--will keep you harvesting and enlarging your herbal stock!

Gourmet Herbs: Classic and Unusual Herbs for Your Garden and Your Table Reviews

I liked this little book. It is a very concise, handy guide to general instructions on container gardening, drying herbs, making your own herb infused vinegars and butter, etcetera. It also includes a short encyclopedia of herbs at the back, as well as some recipes throughout the book that also sounded great to me.

I'd much rather have a pocket reference guide to gardening herbs because I do not have much space to garden. If you are working on designing a garden or you are into true chef culinary skills, this may not be the book for you.

This has a nice selection of herbs with their most basic cultivation and culinary uses. (Unlike the book's self-description on Goodreads, I would not call the herb encyclopedia "huge" nor the book "fact-packed".) Easier to thumb through than the many larger herb books on the market, it's a nice place to quickly find new skeletal ideas (not recipes) for what to do with herbs you're already growing and/or new ideas for herbs to grow.
