I never thought I could say that a historical romance novel would become my favorite book, but that is just what happened after I finished reading The Muse by Raine Miller. This book was the journey of all reading journeys for me. I was immersed in it, I was part of the story and I felt like I time travelled so many years ago to a world of nothing but magic.
The honor of reading the first book your favorite author ever wrote many years ago was sublime. This is the story of Graham Everley, Lord Rothvale and Imogene Byron-Cole who I met in The Passion of Darius.
I felt honored to finally fully meet Tristan Mallerton, a key character in all of Raine Miller’s books. I honestly feel like Tristan Mallerton is a real life artist and when I go to museums sometimes it seems like there should be a wing for all the beautiful portraits this man has painted over the years. It was such a pleasure to read about him, to meet him and see what a wonderful friend and human being he was.

I was enamored with Graham Everley, a sensitive man, a painter, an artist, his love for his Imogene like no other. He was captivated by her since the first time he saw her. He has suffered a great deal and his life experiences just make him the man that he is.

Imogene Byron-Cole is strong, brave, caring, an animal lover, passionate, devoted, honest, beautiful, giving…the perfect heroine in my eyes. I LOVE her!!!
Imogene and Graham together create a love story that surpasses the deepest pain, they both have to learn and grow and their love is like none I’ve ever read. In this story the smallest of details count, they made my soul happy.
And that epilogue, OMG that epilogue....PERFECTION!
This is the historical prequel to The Rothvale Legacy series and it is of vital importance to read it, to understand its meaning in the magical web that Raine Miller creates everytime she writes a book. This was pure magic! -

Once again, Raine has surpassed all of my expectations with The Muse. I absolutely love Raine's historicals and this one certainly gives all of her other books a strong run for the money. Graham and Imogene are the perfect romantic couple. Graham is Lord Rothvale, a title he has reluctantly inherited along with all of the responsibilities that go along with it. Imogene Byron-Cole is a beautiful, intelligent, progressive young woman who has suffered her fair share of tragedy in her young life. Graham is mesmerized by Imogene from the first moment he sees her, carrying a newborn lamb in her arms while leading a lame horse. "Hell, she looked like a goddess." Being a painter, an artist at heart, Graham immediately has very vivid images of Imogene, and his heart is lost to her.
Imogene was raised in a very respectable family of her own and thus has been trained in the duties and expectations of a young woman of her social standing. Raine has done an expert job of leading the readers through what life is like in early 1800's English society and the process of courting and securing a lady's hand in marriage. The attraction between Graham and Imogene is immediate and I thoroughly enjoyed reading about Graham's machinations of making sure no other man could get close or lay claim to her.
The love between Imogene and Graham is so absolute and all encompassing. One cannot live without the other. They compliment each other in every way. Both are passionate about art and art plays a huge part in their beautiful love story. We are given a more complex look into Tristan Mallerton, a painter who we were first introduced to in Raine's Blackstone Affair series. The intense love that Imogene and Graham have for each other is played out in several portraits that each commission from Mallerton.
Both Graham and Imogene have suffered greatly in their pasts but over time each helps the other to overcome the tragedies they've experienced and begin to heal and find peace. The immense love they have for each other also helps them deal with overwhelming tragedy that befalls them. They also have a large family unit around them that helps them through challenging times. I marvel at how Raine weaves this entire interconnected genealogy that we read about throughout all of her books. I don't know how she keeps it all straight with the ancestry of the historical characters and their connections to her contemporary characters that we read about in The Blackstone Affair Series, and Priceless, the modern day Lord Everly.
I could go on and on about the beautiful love that we get to live through Graham and Imogene, but really everyone needs to read about it for themselves. Each person who reads this story will take something different away from it - a favorite quote, a particular love scene, an emotional encounter, and an overwhelming need to read the next book in the series to feed our need for more of these fantastic works of art. See what I did there? "Works of art..." Speaking of works of art...wait until you read the epilogue!!

I couldn't believe my luck when I saw this was free - Raine Miller ffs. She's so good.
This one's an historic story, but happily men and women still got it on plenty and lusted after one another in Georgian times too, but were much more concerned with propriety. None of that trying before you buy thing, one touch and you're ruined. I love how historical novels use that forbidden social thing to ramp up the sexual tension.
There was lots of reading in this and it was an absorbing story. I'm a fast reader and it's taken me about three days to read this, during which time I've been pretty immersed in a world of stately homes and carriages and fencing tournaments. That suits me and it's one of the things I adore about losing myself in a good book.
Imogene is a daughter of landed gentry who has gone to live with family after the death of her parents. Graham is a dude with a title, a couple of country estates plus a London home, lots of money and long curly hair. From the moment they see one another they're smitten and we really get the full story of their courtship in this, with next to nowt missed out.
She's a virgin and I cannot lie, her deflowering was drawn out for so long I was simultaneously suffering from a lady boner and blue balls for hours. Happily, it was worth the wait and the sexual tension was maintained nicely. He really was a horny beast.
Much as I enjoyed the detail of their daily lives, I do think that some of the detail perhaps slowed the story at times and I rather wondered if anything dramatic or climactic was ever going to happen as there were lots of scenes that kind of built up then didn't amount to anything, but that were sweet and belly warming.
Then we got to 90% and all of the drama and angst that had been missing from the rest of the story suddenly hit it avalanche style. It was a bit of a shock after all of that sweetness and gentle storytelling. It was a bit like I'd stumbled into another book. It was resolved, but after the pace I'd gotten used to, the resolution seemed a little rushed perhaps.
This is a standalone and a complete story. I'll definitely read more in this series. Recommended if you're looking for a good historical romp you can lose yourself in. -

If I could give this book 5 million stars, I would.
There are not enough words to describe how amazing this book is. I love Raine's historical books but The Muse had a real impact on me, personally. I totally connected with it. One situation was incredibly emotional for me, but that's the power of Raine's writing, you feel everything that the characters feel.
From the very first page I was captivated and the more you read, the further you are pulled into an era of passion, chivalry, duty and tradition.
Set in 1812, Graham & Imogene are drawn to each other from the minute they set eyes on each other but back then, there were certain expectations as to how you conducted yourself and having a relationship was one of respect and honour..
Their love & passion was intense, their happiness was infectious and their pain was heartbreaking. They found in each other their other half, their soulmate, they were destined for each other.
Raines writing transports you back in time, you see the scenery, you feel all of the characters emotions and its as if you are standing next to them and going on their journey with them. I was in Historical Heaven.
This will be another one of Raine's books that I'll read again & again and it will always feel like I'm reading it for the first time.
Everyone should experience the magic of Raine's historical books, especially this one.

Hay libros malos, y libros malos, y sin duda, éste libro es malo. Es lo primero que leo de la escritora, y si todas sus obras son así, la tacho. Entonces ¿Por qué lo leí? Me llamaba la sinopsis, ése misterio de un cuadro anterior a la "Juno ardiente" de Leighton, un cuadro que pudo inspirar el suyo, me gustó. Lo que no sabía es que me encontraría un coñazo inverosímil al que sólo puede calificarse de culebrón insustancial. Éste es de esos libros que nunca entenderás cómo es posible que tenga tan buena nota en Goodreads. No me meto con los gustos de la gente, oye si te gusta, te ha gustado, y entiendo que la pongas la puntuación de un modo subjetivo. Pero es que el libro es malo.
¿Me he aventurado con las 2 estrellas? Probablemente, tenía ganas de ponerle 1, pero 1 estrella va para libros catastróficos, éste es malo, pero no catastrófico. Quizás porque he sido capaz de aguantar todo el libro hasta el final, incluso con la maquetación tan espantosa que tenía.
¿Qué lo hace tan malo? La historia en sí misma. El primer encuentro de los protagonistas es un insta-love llevado a extremos desproporcionados. En cuanto Graham ve a Imogene ya está enamorado de ella. Eso para empezar. No sé si por algún lado se calificaba que los libros de ésta mujer son eróticos, éste no me lo ha parecido. No soy experta porque la erótica no me gusta, soy de leer novela romántica, y éste libro es 100% romántico. El problema del libro es que se ha llevado el romance al extremo. Bien pudieron sobrarle 200 páginas, porque en cada conversación de los protas hay un "te quiero", "te amo", y muchos más besos y arrumacos.
Las expectativas en sí mismas no son buenas. Y es que también me sentí algo engañada leyéndolo. No sé por qué esperaba que el prota fuese pintor, y que fue él quien pintó los retratos de su mujer, pero nada más lejos de la realidad, quien pintó los retratos de la mujer era un pintor y amigo profesional del prota. Esto no me ha molado nada.
Por otro lado está la sensación de linealidad, y sopor. Pasan páginas, y páginas y no ocurre nada trascendental o interesante. El estilo de ésta escritora es muy facilón y simple, un llamado al best-seller (ahora entiendo por qué la han publicado tanto), por eso precisamente tiene fácil enganche para leer, pero lo peor de ésto es eso, que no ocurre nada interesante. A parte de la relación de los protagonistas aparecen la hermana de ella, y la familia y amigos de él. Más adelante una mujer misteriosa y su hija que poco a poco adivinas qué tienen que ver en la trama, y después otra persona, de ésas fácilmente odiables, que esperas que cometa alguna locura al final del libro, y nada de nada. Al revés, esperaba que al supuesto "malo" lo despacharan en éste libro, pero veo que Raine Miller tiene otra idea y pretende que salga en los siguientes, porque sí, esto huele a trilogía por todos los poros.
Por mi parte, se me quitaron todas las ganas tanto de ésta serie, como de cualquier otro libro que pueda escribir ésta mujer. -

Raine Miller blew me away with this story! I seriously fell in love all over again with reading this. I read these kind of books as a teenager but this story is far more than I had ever read.
Graham's love is so strong and passionate for Imogene that I could not help it but when I read this story, my heart just fluttered sooo much as did hers in this story.
Graham Everly, Lord Rothvale....I want my own Graham one day. Imogene is one lucky lady to have him. Their love for one another is so passionate you feel it as you read through each page. This is what I love about Raine Miller's writing. She sets up each scene and writes with such clarity that you feel that you have jumped into the pages with the characters.
Imogene, a well mannered lady in the presence of others, is one hot fierce woman once Graham comes around. She and Graham teach each other about love, desire and pushing the boundaries. The go from tender to steamy in a matter of sentences and I love it.
Art is a huge symbol of what these 2 main characters love & how they express their love for one another.
There are some twists throughout this love story that keep you on your toes.
Truly this story made me fall in love again with the simple face of being in love. Love can be expressed in many ways and Raine Miller shows us exactly that.

I definitely have a book hangover after plowing through this book... 500 pages... whew!! But the ugly tears I cried at the end of the story definitely made the journey worthwhile. In fact, the ending is what sealed the 5 star rating... I loved the way this couple came to realize that life doesn't always play out like a fairytale. And that is what Graham and Imogene had for most of the book... a fairytale love story! It was hard seeing that fairytale tainted with the harsh realities of life, but their love for each other held them together and gave them strength.
Graham and Imogene came together at a time when they were both in need of healing from tragic losses. He brought her back to life from her grief and she became his muse.
Graham was utterly possessed by Imogene's beauty both inside and out and she constantly surprised him with her willingness to allow him to play out his games and fantasies. Their love making was very playful at times. But, at other times it was very dominating and tense. Graham's need to be with her sometimes overwhelmed him. Imogene was ever the patient and caring lover, always very giving.
I love that we get to meet Mallerton up close and personal in this story, the name that we see plastered on so many paintings throughout the Blackstone Affair. He was a great character... as well as his friend Lord Byron, the poet.
This book is definitely for those historical romance readers that like to dive into something lengthy and thoroughly written. It's also a good choice for those who enjoy a taste of poetry, literature and art.
This is a stand alone novel but we meet characters that will come back again in future installments of this series... so, a little taste of what's to come!
Another masterpiece written by the very talented Raine Miller... and as always... looking forward to more...

5 million artistic stars and chapeau to Raine Miller! Brilliant, outstanding, awesome, lovely, heartbreaking, fantastic, excellent, superb, splendid, magnificent. Yes this book deserves all these words and more.
First, Raine Miller's historic romances are the only ones I read in that genre and she set a very high standard should I ever read another authors books. Second, no matter what I write here, no words can do that book justice, so this really is a MUST READ FOR YOURSELF!
It's the England of 1812 and Graham and Imogene are both expected at the festivities of the upcoming wedding. That first meeting left an impression on both of them and neither can stop thinking about the other. It's a meeting of fate as things could have gone totally different as you will learn later.
Both are still suffering from tragic losses and try to get back to life and the responsibilities.
As it was back in the days getting near a young lady isn't easy. When you can't get away from her and she feels the way as well, there's only one way to go...you ask for her hand so you can spend the rest of your lifes together.
The sparks are flying right from the beginning and their love just grows. Raine Miller knows how to write these get togethers as passionately and sinful and loving as well as elegant and tasteful. And phew, they are hot together!
They are both learning to get used to the married life and also get to know each other better. But people from the past, living and death, threaten to break the loving bond. In the end, the deepest pain of loss is their biggest obstacle to a life together.
Both characters are unconventional for this time in their views of life, how to live and interact with others. When you have read previous books of Raine Miller, you have already heard of Tristan Mallerton. He's playing an important part as is painting in itself. Paintings are precious and meaningful in the way to express their love.
Graham Everley is a gentleman in every sense of the word. As it is loving and heartwarming and what every woman dreams of, it will also be his biggest hurdle. He has this idea to be strong for his woman every day of their life and in every situation, always provide safety and happiness.
Imogene Byron-Cole is marked by her past, yet she doesn't let it definy her present or future. She's strong with a will of her own. Even in situations when she's unsure of what is expected of her, she never appears weak.
Both are growing throughout the story and will get close to your heart.
The first few pages were a little hard with all these people and who's related and connected to whom in which way. But hang in there! When you get the picture and mainly focus on Graham and Imogene, you will get to a great reading experience.
It is written with great talent, awesome style and so much heart. Raine Miller has a view for details and meaningful accessories. If you have read her other books before, you will recognise small things from them as all her books are interconnected. A fact that makes all her books so much more precious to me.
The Muse is a heartbreaking, heartwarming, sensual, loving, teary and page-turning book that I can only recommend! -

A romantic historical journey with heat, laugh out loud moments, and tender moments combined. For fans of The Blackstone Affair and Priceless, you HAVE to read this! All the stories are so cleverly intertwined. The Epilogue had a big smile plastered on my face. Knowing that it all started here, with this story, made me as a reader appreciate the whole storyline even more. I loved every minute of it.

Imogene's influence on him changes him, as he begins his journey to acceptance and maturity through their compelling love.
Imogene is absolutely delightful. She is a woman ahead of her time. An inspiration to all that meet her; she influences not only her husband, but artists, poets and all that come to know her. Her love for Graham is all encompassing; she holds nothing back as she willingly learns to be his wife, confidant and lover.
These characters are so real, I felt the urge to do a Google search to check out if in fact there ever existed a Lord and Lady Rothvale and Tristan Mallerton. We all know Sir Frederic Leighton and the wonders he produced with his brush. His portrait called Flaming June is the inspiration for this story and our story proposes Leighton himself found his inspiration for such a work of art from our Imogene. Raine Miller's imagination soars as she concocts a plausible story that will leave you wondering if she somehow has magical insight into the past.

I fall in love again with this new character Graham and Imogene, they take us in a beautiful journey.
Meet Graham, he have responsibilities now and left behind his own dreams to become a painter, is a lord and he have duty to his family, state. His past still haunt him and he can't forgive. He is devoted to his work and he came to London after visiting his state in Ireland.
in this journey to attend a family weeding meet Imogene, love at first sight, and determined to meet her and make his.
Imogene, just lost his father and came to live with her uncle and aunt, she love to ride and she is a caring soul. Her wits and intelligence, independence and beautiful soul make Graham to fall in love.
She was naive in all intimate matters but Graham, with love and patience, teach her and she called Professor. they have such love and passion that really can feel it. They really love each other. Of course they have sad moments, but with love everything is possible.
And love the secondary character, like Tristan Mallerton a painter, we know of the Blackstone series about his painting. but here we know more about this fantastic man. And of course this book was amazing to describe every paint that I believe I was really seen it. Fantastic job and really love the friendship with Imogene.
The end was amazing, love how the paintings play a important role, and now we can understand more about the paintings and Tristan Mallerton more, we have a glimpse in the Blackstone series and also in The Rothvale Legacy.
Thank you so much Raine to bring such a beautiful story. I really enjoy every word.

I had the privilege to read an ARC copy of this book and I was thrilled. Raine Miller is my favorite author! To know I received the first book she ever wrote was the most exciting and heart warming honor.
This book took me back to the era of Jane Austen and I told Raine she is my current day English writer. As you read you get brought back to the times of courting with chaperones, kissing was not allowed until you were engaged and even then you had to sneak a kiss. The love that Graham has for Imogene is incredible. Graham fell for her the moment he saw her walking towards him and your heart follows along with him.
Graham has a dark secret as we find out along the way of the story and finds it hard to tell Imogene for his thoughts think that he will lose her, so the secret is hidden. Imogene however is a strong and compassionate woman and knows he hides a secret. As the story moves along your heart gets heavier with the stories/secrets they tell one another, but the love they have builds their bond stronger then ever.
Be prepared to bring many boxes of tissues, you will go through many emotions with this loving couple and feel like you are going along on their journey. You will feel there love, heartbreak, tragedies and yet feel elated when the story concludes.
I have found my favorite historical and it is "The Muse" by Raine Miller. This read is a must for everyone!!! Thank you so much Raine for this privilege I will never forget it. -
Looking back I was not prepare for this journey in The Muse. Historical fiction is a stretch but as all avid readers know, sometimes a genre switch is needed and this was ideal for me. I adored the intro as the reader learns of a beautiful painting, which reminded me of the movie Ever After (which I also love) and then we are transported back in time to the story behind the painting, where we alas meet our main characters.
The beautiful courtship of Graham and Imogene was engrossing. The family involvement, albeit burdensome at time, was endearing. Even the propriety refreshing from some modern reads. Then the plot thickens as Graham steps into his inherited role more predominately and the reader learns glimpses of foreshadowing details of murky waters ahead for our champions. Imogene learns love is seen even in the darkest of times. Their mutual love for art was beautiful and proof still that relationships need common bonds. It is ultimately the beauty and memories in art which reminded Graham and Imogene the love that blooms between them and the love that completes them both individually.
The full circle conclusion with the painting was so well done I literally sighed with contentment and completion after reading this novel. As a bonus, I'm a sucker for pulling quotes into a story and loved the lacing of famous excerpts at the beginning of chapters.

I had the privilege to read an ARC copy of this book and I was so excited .
Another masterpiece from Raine Miller this time it was a wonderful journey in time tunnel to England in 19 century . The description of the landscapers and castles all so authentic and beautiful. This journey to high society , in England brought in this book insight of the manners and the behavior that was expected from people in this high society. Raine succeed in her very unique talent bring to the reader not only the atmosphere in those days but also the language in England and this is play good role to feel the book. the amazing love story between Imogene and Graham taught us how strong love can be, their love can heal broken heart and wishes to die . I felt that in this book Raine gave the stage not only to the main character but also to the sub characters as well. All her characters lovely and have their own story ,some of them will catch your heart from the first paragraph
This book contains beautiful love story, tragic, secrets, conspiracies, braveness, sport spirit, death, grief, recovery, altogether link in wonderful couple .
Raine is one of my favorite author and i found that she is very diverse in her plots. This book is different from her other book in many uspects . It is highly recommended -

Eccomi qui, care fenici, a recensire La musa: l’eredità di Rothvale, un romance storico e primo volume della serie scritto da Raine Miller. Il titolo e la copertina mi hanno subito colpito per la sensualità che sprigionano, il periodo storico poi e l’ambientazione, tipica di questo genere di romanzi nell’Inghilterra bigotta e convenzionale dell’ottocento inglese, hanno contribuito nella scelta.
Da subito si denota un ritmo narrativo molto lento e monotono, sebbene lo stile di scrittura sia tipico dei romanzi classici di questa epoca.
Nei primi capitoli, in effetti, sembra proprio di imbattersi in un libro di altri tempi e senza grandi colpi di scena, a metà romanzo però le scene erotiche rovinano il genere, perché sono troppo spinte per lo stile adottato e confondono il lettore, rendendo la trama grottesca e con un linguaggio sempre troppo esplicito in certi momenti.
La trama è incentrata completamente nella storia d’amore dei protagonisti, entrambi appartenenti all’alta società londinese, che risulta troppo smielata e sdolcinata, senza grandi interazioni emotive tra i protagonisti che si dichiarano eterno amore sin dai primi sguardi.
La lunghezza del libro è significativa e mi sento di sottolinearla, in quanto generalmente ne sono compiaciuta, ma questa volta ho fatto molta fatica a terminarlo.
Mano a mano che andavo avanti con la lettura ero in trepidante attesa di un qualche evento che speravo smuovesse un po’ il ritmo ma che non è arrivato, se non alla fine e nella sua tragicità tipica dell’epoca. L’ambientazione è classica e con una grande minuzia di particolari.
Imogene Byron-Cole è la protagonista del romanzo, una ragazza rimasta orfana che vive con la famiglia della zia, di una bellezza eterea e particolare, e ciò salta subito all’occhio, non solo per l’aspetto fisico, ma soprattutto per il carattere indomito e la vitalità. L’incontro con il suo futuro sposo Lord Graham Everly, Signore di Rothvale, avviene per caso e il feeling tra loro è subito chiaro e visibile agli occhi di tutti. Entrambi sono segnati da eventi tragici che li portano ad avvicinarsi uno all’altra, non solo per la grande attrazione fisica ma anche per un’unione di anime. Lui è troppo possessivo e la grande passione che prova per la sua donna è esasperante ed esagerata tanto che Imogen diventa la sua musa ispiratrice. Lei, che all’inizio mi ha colpita per la dinamicità e il carattere, pian piano diviene un cagnolino fedele del marito, senza grandi aspettative e assoggettata allo stile di vita di Graham.
Mi dispiace ma non mi ha convinta! I personaggi secondari sono tanti e anche interessanti quindi non escludo che i prossimi volumi possano avere qualcosa in più.

New York Times Bestselling author Raine Miller, does a very good job is summarizing her book in that synopsis, and you should be grateful, because do you really want be going over the plot for you, nope I didn't think so. As I am not a New York Times author and my recap would pale in comparison. If you are looking for a re write of the book, you are in the wrong place. I don't do that.

The Undoing of a Libertine (Blackstone Affair Historical Prequel). I read both initially in 2012 when The Passion of Darius was titled His Perfect Passion. At the time I didn't know that they tied into the Blackstone Affair books, I just wanted to read more by Ms. Miller, as I had devoured Naked, when it was first release, and independently published.
The Muse as the synopsis states is a love story between Graham, an English Lord and the beautiful Imogene Byron-Cole, a woman of noble birth. This is a love at first site book, and the initial love story and it's fiery passion moves along quickly. But, hmmm did you see the but coming, where most stories quit with they lived 'happily ever after', Miller's book just gets started. As a marriage is more than romance and good times. This book turns out to be more than a love story, as it culminates into a family drama of epic proportion, one with lust, love, betrayal, heartbreak, tragedy and joy.
The sexual level is of an erotic nature, so be advised that this is a sinfully scintillating reading experience. The hero is possessive, but always in a loving way. The heroine Imogene, is such wonderful female character and them together are a brilliant couple. Not everything with this couple is a bed of roses, and their life together is tested and during those tragedies, my heart broke.
I am never one to tell and author how to write their book, but I did want more time at the end of the book, as I felt rushed our the door. I would have like to have lingered and have a cup or two of tea.
As I mentioned at the start of the review this book is free on
Kindle Unlimited, and I got a lot of bang for my buck as the book is five hundred and ten pages long. This is not a quick read, and I am grateful that Ms. Miller did not make this a two book series, as she did this story service by making it a standalone historical read. She also brought art and historical elements into her story; which gave the novel a rich texture.

Please make yourself a huge favor and experience the overwhelming magic of a brilliant woman who writes wonderfully about strengh, duty, respect, honor, tradition, chivalry, passion, devotion, adoration, admiration, true love and happiness. A pure pleasure. Sublime. This historical prequel to The Rothvale Legacy is an absolute fantastic addition to The Blackstone Affair. The scenery of The Muse is set in England in the early beginning of 19th century, Victorian era, self-disciplined and forbidding...
"What?" He rasped, "what did you say?" "Fill me!" He served. And as he did, he pondered what she'd said. Fill... She said "fill". An interesting word choice. Same beginning sound, and the same number of letters as my word. Fuck, fill, take, need, have, mate, love - merely connotation. Words. Words change nothing about my feelings for her, or what I do right now. Ooooooh, fuck! Never let this end."
Art, beauty, inspiration and Sir Tristan Mallerton are key characters in Imogene and Graham's heartbreaking story. Both perfect heroes in my eyes, beautiful animal lovers, devoted and passionate soulmates. You'll discover Mallerton paintings in all Raine Miller's books. The full circle conclusion with the bidding of the 3 paintings made me sighing with contentment and grinning like a fool. Well done! Fabulous work. -
I have enjoyed reading the. Muse which is a historical romance set between Graham Lord Rothvale and Imogene Byron-Cole . Graham falls in love at first sight when he notices her holding a lamb and seeking help at his cousin's place. He is totally besotted and gets the opportunity of knowing her better during his stay. Their friendship turns into love and they bond in a pure tie of souls. The character of Graham is loving and really attaching. Lucky Imogen to have a world of happiness with him. I look forward to read Mr Gravell's story and some patience after all he is a bad boy ! The author has a profound love for English Literature . She graced with the presence of Lord Byron ! The poetry at the start of each chapter is a fabulous collection too. I believe the love of literature did made Rainer Miller more romantic writer. It's a six rating from me. I would invite bookworm to grab and read at one go and feel the Magic of Lord Rothvale. The pure love of Imogene is a tribute to womanhood from a naive lady to an ardent lover and a happy Mother and wife .

As not to give anything away...I simply could NOT put this book down. I finished it on a flight back home from Vienna. The first book of Raine's I ever read was about Darius, so I knew I'd be sucked in - and she did not disappoint.
Even though it's historical, the story line is what makes great romance books. The unconditional love between Graham and Imogene is something so precious it brought tears to my eyes. Watching the two main characters grow into not only themselves, but each other was priceless.
If this is was the author's first story, hidden away, I wonder what other gems she may have for us. The Muse was well written, the characters, were charming and engaging. There were a few sub plots I'd have liked to have seen more of - but perhaps they will be in the future. Contemporary or historical Raine Miller has plotted out a family saga few authors can do. I can't wait for her next. -
This was just an OK read. I have been reading historical books as well as historical romance since many years. I love the genre and feel quite confident with the ins and outs of the time's particularities. This book has lots of flaws in terms of people's behavior, speech and customs and even standing of aristocratic ranking within society. If I try to put aside all the problems involving the historical aspects, the story itself was rather weak. It never wrapped me. It took me several days to finish the book and I kept wondering if I would have enjoyed it better had the plot be written on a contemporary environment.
I like the author's writing but I don't think I'll buy another historical book by her. That is definitively not her forte
