-
Do you sell something? Do you want to gain success and avoid pitfalls? Do you want to meet and exceed your goals? Do you want to gain a competitive edge? Then, this book is for you. This book is a step by step tutorial into the art of selling. It’s not just a book to be read but it is a workbook. You have to engage actively in reading it, discuss the concepts and make most of your strengths and weaknesses.
You will find anecdotes and real-life examples that are not only interesting but teach lessons on selling. The book starts simply with the concept of selling and moves on to success determinants, qualities of a winning professional and how to be one. It talks about the psychology of selling, importance of quality and credibility and how to gain referrals and testimonials. It also teaches the rules of letter writing and telephone calling. You gain knowledge of positive communication, negotiation, goal setting and time management.
The principles that the book discusses are not only useful in the selling business but in every business you want to achieve success in. The lessons on communication, time management and goal-setting are applicable to every job and life in general.
You summarize and revise your learning after each chapter and think about how they apply to you particularly with the help of the workbooks at the end.
This book helps you learn the lessons of selling and all the principles that help you tread toward success slowly but assuredly. -
Who is not selling? A candidate at a job interview, apolitician making speeches to get votes, a boy and girl dating with the intention of getting married . . . all are selling themselves in some or the other way. You Can Sell challenges the age old cliché which delineates sales to be the sole domain of a sales man.
You Can Sell addresses time-tested principles which make a successful sales professional. The word used is ‘principles’ and not ‘tactics’. Tactics are manipulative whereas principles are based on the foundation of values. Many times you hear people saying that to succeed you need to learn the ‘tricks of the trade’. Good professionals learn the trade, and that’s exactly what You Can Sell teaches.
Reading Shiv Khera' s 'You can Win' around 10 years ago in the hostel dormitory, i laughed my guts out. I thought it was a book definitely not written for the people of earth, it was so away from the reality. I remember arguing then with a fellow nerdy student how the author sees the world from a rose tainted canvas which very few can relate to and a world which only some of us can think of inhabiting. In short, even though it was a ridiculously successful book the self-help book never worked for me. Now, years later after reading his latest venture, i can't help laughing again. This time, out of sheer boredom.
Published first in 2010 by Rupa Publications and short-listed for Vodaphone Crossword Non-fiction Award 2010, the book has been repackaged and released again by Westland. The book has more of exercises and tests after each chapter that the previous version, which i conveniently skipped. They add to the length of the book and quite unoriginal to put it politely.
The best bits of the book are the one where the author decides to put real-time examples of selling from his own life. They are not only interesting to glance through, but also effectively communicates the points of selling across the spectrum of business verticals. These are the portions which people in Sales, Marketing or Business Development will find most useful applying in a professional set-up. There are few good pointers to those people too who are starting up their career and can have a deeper look into their positives and negatives.
The most sore point is that it does not tell anything new on personality building and selling skills which you have not heard before - Same cliches about dressing well, listening to customers, understanding the situation, being patient, following up with them and many more. It is the same jazz you have read so many times and it sounds just so damn familiar.
I am going with 2/5 for Shiv Khera's 'You can Sell'. I believe it is going to sell many more copies and earn lot of money for publisher/author. I just wish it was a much better book than any other self help bible you come across on a bookstore shelf. In its current form, it is just a one time read which you may like to pick up if you hadn't read a self-help book in a long time. -
This one will fill you with positive ideas. Inspirational!!
-
Every business person would love this book. This also, like You Can Win, will always remain with me, as a brain food for lifetime.

Nice book, every sales person should read it once at least.
Many insights and learning one can have from this book. -

'YOU CAN SELL : Results are rewarded, Efforts aren't' by Shiv Khera.
Mr. Shiv is an author, educator, business consultant and also a succesful entrepreneur. He is also the founder of Qualified Learning Systems Inc. USA. He is a much sought-after speaker and a well known personality among the Indian student community.
One of the highest paid professions in the world is the profession of a commision sales person(feel free to google it). From we engineers to doctors to accountants etc. all of us are salespersons. We are all selling some idea or product(yourself) to serve the economy as well as sustain ourselves.
This book takes selling and buying to an entirely new perspective. It gives the traditional concept a modern boost thus helping millions of individuals like us represent and replenish ourselves in the best manner.
The author gives an account of the struggles he had faced during his initial years as a car washerman to a life insurance agent. He beautifully potrays the fact that a salesman is not a salesman afterall. Infact, he is one who fulfill the needs of the people and keeps the economy running.
Students can derive important lessons like Time Management & Goal Setting in order to achieve what they had set out for.
Good professionals will learn the trade and the tricks will themselves follow!
If you've lost focus, are working hard but not getting results? then this book will definitely boost your motivation and help you shine! -
A must read for those who are working in Marketing Department especially bank employees. This is the best inspirational read. In early College days I read many books of Shiv but when I reread this it gave me immense power to increase my Productivity, Integrity and Credibility.
In today's World where people suffer from mental attacks, clinical depression, anxiety attacks and such other mental disease they come out and find social media as a way to get rid of their depression or any mental health and make others aware of it. They publish it as a memoirs and biography in name of self help books having zero experience in business, addressing and combining their problems to business matters or success which is sheer stupidity. I think such people really need to take inspiration from far more advance gone people who Dale Carnegie, Brian Tracy, Shiv Khera and Priya Kumar.
You Can Win' and 'You Can Sell' both are my favourites. Brain Tracy and Shiv Khera has been my all time favourite motivational speakers. I think no You Tubers or any other Elocutionist can replace them. This book is recommended to all. -
I expected a book which has made such a big name for itself to be way better. This book is full of cliched statements, pointing the obvious and of not much help.
Quite frankly I’m surprised it has even sold as much as it has! Based on how this book is, I probably won’t read Shiv Khera’s “You can win” even after having bought that. -
This is the first book about selling techniques I read.
The tactics described in this book are really relatable and we can rely on that. We can build our Rapport on the customer if we follow the methods provided in this book. -
It's a book full of sales wisdom. All the way from how to prospect and how to close and what else to do and what not to do. I think one can be a great salesman if applied all principals. At the same time, the book was not that well structured.
-
Really nice book. Especially I like the discussions with practical knowledge on handling objections from the prospect. Shiv advocated sales professionals to be having good ethics and thus rebrand the sales profession/career in public. Visionary.
-
1) All the principles are based on facts
2) The writing is clear and explained with examples
3) Shiv Khera has printed his life long experience which makes this book genuine read -
Upon done with the book, I practically got to know Selling is just a comfort level we do create to the buyer, nothing complicated as studies suggest. Practically Marvel.
-
Very good book for foundation level. But lot of things are updated
-
It's a Bible for aspiring Sales professionals.
-
Perfect book for sales people to startegize their life
-
Best book ever read with so much of Practical use.
Highly recommended not only for Sells persons but to everyone.😊
