And her first client has just stepped in the door.
The Lucky Cat is the very first entry in the Salem Massachusetts Mini Mystery series. These short stories will be written and loaded one a day from October 1 through October 31, 2014.
Lisa has lived in scenic Massachusetts since 1986, with only two brief forays out of state. One of Lisa’s ancestors was Ann Foster, who died during the Salem Witch Trials. Ann Foster was a grandmother by that time and sacrificed herself to protect her daughter and granddaughter. Ann had been born in England, came over in 1635, and was 75 by the time of the trials. Salem reached its dark depths during those trials from 1692-1693 - but since then has healed, blossomed, and shines. It now features the amazing Peabody Essex Museum, a plethora of gorgeous historic architecture, and a beautiful coastline. It's well worth a visit. If you can't go in person, take a virtual trip through Lisa's first-hand descriptions!
The Lucky Cat (Black Cat #1) Reviews

This is a 2.5 star read simply because it's TOO mini.
The first of 31 mini stories for the author's Salem Massachusetts Mystery series, this introduces us to our protagonist. Well written but just too short especially given that the author has called it "Vol 1". I have included an excerpt from the end of the book that explains the author's take on the series.
"This series is being written one each day from October 1 through October 31, 2014. Follow along with all the mystic fun! ....... All author’s proceeds from the Salem Massachusetts Mini Mystery series benefit local battered women's shelters." -
A short cozy mistery story about a woman who's daughter has cancer but managed to get well since her mother bought her a black cat.
But the cat disappeared when a burglar broke into the woman's house, so she comes to a private investigator for help.
The investigator, Kathy Taylor solves up the mystery in no time. -
This is okay as a gossipy story about women, kids, illness and cats. It's not a good idea though, to imply that serious illness can be cured or helped by any magical solution. There isn't any drama that we feel, though we do see some people going into semi-hysterics; it didn't work for me anyway.
As a lead in to a series of longer books this may be just a way of introducing characters and locations, so I would wait to read a full-length book before judging the series. -
It's a cute little story about a stolen cat. It's nice, not great, but sweet.

What an adorable story!
Now I’ll just have to read all of the books. Erin my friend, I blame you. You knew I’d love this story. -
A charming, if too brief, intro to what I hope is a hefty series of shorts... Who can resist kittens? Or the intriguing protagonist? This made me want to keep reading, but now I'll have to figure out how/where to get the next one.
(Update): It looks like the series will be coming out daily during October. That's nice, and should keep up some buzz... But aside from the first one, which is free, they're being sold for 99 cents and only distributed on Amazon... As a card-carrying cheapskate, I'll probably wait until after October is long over and the author has collected the series into a single volume selling for well under $30. ;-)
(Update 2): For people who subscribe to Kindle Unlimited, by the way, the whole set is "free". Reminder to self: when the collection eventually comes out, I should return here and edit this again to remove out-dated commentary like this.) -
When I got this is as a freebie, I had no idea it was only a short story. Very short, too saccharine. Also, it's painfully obvious the author is white (she clearly means well). Not for me at all.

Description: Kathy Taylor, a former police officer turned P.I. is offered an unusual case by a stressed mother who comes to her to find a missing cat. The mother claims that this is no ordinary cat but one that she credits with performing miracles. Kathy takes the case and together they quickly discover what happened and find resolution for everyone.
In Short: If you like your mysteries extra cozy and are interested in short reads (15 pages) that are part of a series check this book and others by this author out.
Pros: Cute story, well written and very descriptive. The story has a great ending that is happy for everyone involved. I love the author's writing and would definitely like to read something longer or a full series by Lisa Shea. This is a feel good story full of nice characters. There is a lot of character development for our heroine, Kathy, which will really suck you into the series.
Cons: I expected this to be more of a mystery so it was kind of disappointing for me when the culprit so easily appeared and spilled the beans. This story was a bit too short and rushed, lacking development. -
A mother's love
A wonderful little coffee break read. Nice plot with great deductive sleuthing and warm, human characters.
She had resigned from the police force after bopping her superior on the nose when he made a pass. Now her mentor has retired and she has taken over the PI Agency. Her being in charge is so new that she hasn't even had time to take her laptop out. But her first case was here. A missing cat. The owner is a little girl who has only revived from chemo with the arrival of the cat and her mother is frantic. Accepting the case she goes to view the house where the cat was stolen from. Her Grandmother thinks the cat is a nuisance, the little girl wants it back and the neighbour isn't unhappy that the cat is gone. When the little girl's play date arrives they talk about the cat. Can she find where the cat is? -
New on the PI job her first case arrives and it is a missing cat. A cat that was a support cat for a little girl with cancer, and the cat was making her better, her mother is sure. However it is Oct. 1st in Salem and Spokey the cat is a black cat....not always a good thing in the month of Oct.
Perhaps the better idea is a new kitten, off everyone goes and with only 2 soon 1 can left Ms. PI finds herself with a new cat ...
Great fast read that has you hooked at " I named her ... -
Didn't realize it was only 13 pages. It started off ok and then ended abruptly. I double checked to see if it was a sample, but it wasn't. Guess you have to buy the next 31 pieces to find out.
Edit: Apparently pieces are available for Unlimited subscribers, so maybe I will read the rest and edit my review. Unknown. -
This is an introductory story in a 1 or 31 short mysteries. Here we meet Kathy Taylor, a former Boston PD turned PI in Salem Mass. Her first case is the missing cat of a little girl who is undergoing chemo. She solves the case and gets a kitten of her own
Question: If I read this entire series I can be done with my annual goal. Thoughts? Opinions? leave a comment. -
Adorable
A little girl sick, a magic cat with the ability to make someone feel better. I thought this little short story was cute and adorable. About a detective looking for a stolen cat, and getting her very own black kitten. Let’s hope her cat is just as magical as the sick little girls’. -
I got this as a freebie.
It’s basically a little short teaser for a new series that the author was writing in 2014.
While it wasn’t bad, it wasn’t good enough to make me feel like I had to have the rest of the series, though I might read them if I didn’t have plenty of other things on my TBR list. -
Cat fever
I love cats of all colors .I had just started together into the story when the sample ended so I can't really say whether the book was good, only that I think I would have enjoyed it. -
This is too short to even be called a short story! It's more like the first chapter of a longer story. I am not sure it was even long enough to be able to rate it. It was quite cute, but the length frustrated me.
-
Interesting
A cool take on superstition and black cats. Am glad they didn’t try and prologue all the case suspects or people paraded through. Short with an interesting start with the main character. -
A very short sweet story
I love winning author can take a thought and turn it into a short story. This author has just done just that. You can read it in less than 30 minutes and come away saying that was really sweet. -
I received this book as an Arc from the author and I’m writing a review because I honestly loved it! A private detective with past issues a an ex- cop agrees to find a lost cat with powers. Grey plot and characters. Highly recommended.
-
This is a very short story. I liked the idea behind the cat and its super "powers." It's filled with hope.
-
A mystery novel in 13 pages? Yep! One that will hit you in the feels as well.
I'm looking forward to the next installment. -
A short, cute story, It made me smile and and I liked it. If you want a light mystery this is it.
