This is a combined review of both The Big Book of Happy and
The Big Book of Silly.
These two huge board books explore things that make us happy, and things that make us feel silly. The Big Book of Happy is very reminiscent of Taking a Bath with the Dog and Other Things That Make Me Happy by Scott Menchin, but with sturdier pages and more lively artwork. The Big Book of Silly, on the other hand, is almost too silly. The silly concepts introduced are more surreal than anything, and they don't make much sense. Miss Muffet does spend time reading Silly on her own, but most often, if we read one aloud, it is Happy. Both books, regardless of text, have wonderfully vibrant artwork that could be shared with even very small babies. (I look forward to showing them to Miss Muffet's sibling in a few more months!) -
A nice quick book with big pictures that will keep the interest of smaller kids. The pictures have a medium amount of detail, so you can spend time exploring them. The premise that kids would like doing things only slightly related to what animals enjoy doing was a bit off-taste for me. I would have preferred more pretending and imagination. The emphasis on 'happy' was particularly nice though.

A board book full of happy actions both in the animal and human world. Digital illustrations are vibrant and will make readers happy.
Recommended for babies and toddlers. -
Simple book with happy illustrations
-
Very simple. Would be good for Toddler Time, lots of actions to follow, etc.
-
Bright large book, great for storytime. How we are happy, when we sing, when we splash, when we hug.

I LOVED this one- it makes me smile! But little man isn't too into it, and he's the target audience. He gets frustrated with how big it is, and how he can't turn the "pages" very easily. (It's nearly 8.5"x11" as opposed to the usual board book 5"x5".) I love the positive message and the cheerful colors throughout the book! If you read it, keep an eye out for the snail... he's happy in more places than one. ;)
