The Big Book of Silly Reviews

  • Anna

Big board book with bold colorful illustrations! I loved the illustrations a lot. They are so fun and go well with the text! The story is basically a few examples on how silly some things are with the question of 'Can you be silly like that?' being asked occasionally. It's a short and simple book which is perfect for toddlers! The illustrations will really capture their curiosity for sure.

Thought that being a toddler, Alistair would love some silliness. He didn't love this one but he liked to read it a couple times. Great big fun colorful illustrations.

  • Katelyn Patterson

A board book but a large one that would be good for a silly storytime.

This is a combined review of both The Big Book of Silly and
    The Big Book of Happy.

These two huge board books explore things that make us happy, and things that make us feel silly. The Big Book of Happy is very reminiscent of Taking a Bath with the Dog and Other Things That Make Me Happy by Scott Menchin, but with sturdier pages and more lively artwork. The Big Book of Silly, on the other hand, is almost too silly. The silly concepts introduced are more surreal than anything, and they don't make much sense. Miss Muffet does spend time reading Silly on her own, but most often, if we read one aloud, it is Happy. Both books, regardless of text, have wonderfully vibrant artwork that could be shared with even very small babies. (I look forward to showing them to Miss Muffet's sibling in a few more months!)

This one seems like it could be okay for SRR, but needs a LOT of emphasis and enthusiastic reading to get it to be as active as SRR books should be. The dancing fox/cat at the end will definitely work, but I could also designate something to be the "silly" thing and do that everytime the word silly comes up in the book and have the kids join in. Or do something different that is silly for every page

This book features colorful illustrations of animals literally doing silly things. The vibrant colors are sure to appeal to small children and offer some giggles and the rhythm of the language will be pleasing to children. All in all a fun read, though I wished that there had been more connectedness in the story.

An oversize board book that imagines animals doing silly/funny things (i.e. a fox dancing with a cat). I like the emphasis on encouraging readers to dream up their own silly scenarios.

    Vibrant digital artwork.

Recommended for babies, toddlers, and PreK.

  • Mary

Great book for kids, big and small!

  • Robin Rockman

    Way too short.

  • Sue Mosher

Cute but I was disappointed it wasn't MORE silly.
