Sofia Angelis is a woman without a past. All she knows is that she's being hunted. When she stumbles, bloody and beaten, onto Abram Yoder's Lancaster County farm, she is not only given a chance at safety, but also the possibility of love. Will the ghosts of Sofia's past keep her from seizing a new future?
Abram Yoder is a man trapped in the past. His wife Rebekah died in childbirth two years back, and even through prayer, he hasn't been able to absolve his grief and allow himself to live. When a mysterious woman comes to his Lancaster farm needing help, will Abram find the faith to love again?
Join Sofia and Abram as they confront the past, embrace the future and with God's help, bridge the gap between their two worlds and maybe even find love in Book 1 of the 10 Part Out of Darkness serial.

This is a very short story in a series of ten. I though the title and synopsis sounded intriguing; not mention the remaining nine stories. Sometimes I like that in book; I thought I'd like it in this, but I think ten may be a few too many. In my opinion, the beginning and body of this story were good, I kept growing more and more curious. Then I reached the end and it was like hitting a wall; so that's why I gave it a three star. Now I'm off to read story number two because I can't stand to start something and not finish. I bound and compelled to see how this ends!

This was a kindle freebie. I think I've only read one other Amish romance, so I don't know a lot about this genre, but it seems pretty formulaic. This novella was a mix of romance and mystery. I enjoyed it, but didn't love it. If you've never seen "Witness" then the story would be unique, but it seems to be the same story, just with a woman as the person integrating into the Amish community. Definitely give it a try and if you like it, there are 9 more short books to enjoy!

Lancaster County farm.
Sofia Angelis (English) is being hunted. She is badly beaten & blood all over her.
Abram Yoder (widower) had found her barely alive.
Rebekah Yoder (wife) had died giving birth.
What was Officer Michael “Mike” Maglione speaking to Carl, & “D” about?
What was Officer Donaldson discussing with Sofia?

A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written Amish book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great Amish movie, or better yet a mini TV series. To be continued. There is no doubt in my mind this is a very easy rating of 5 stars.

Good writing but...
35-40 pages does not make an adult novel. Perhaps a children's book is that short. I wish the entire book was sold as one book and not a boxed set, implying greater value as a set. I realize it's a marketing scheme many indie authors use in the hope they will generate greater income by the purchase of several smaller books vs. the larger boxed set. The really good indie authors who have proven their worth price their books accordingly and don't need to play these games. To me, it's all about value. I'd rather pay full price for something I own (hard copy) than sometching I rent or buy the digital rights to view only as long as Amazon allows me. -
Such a great beginning to a new series from Ruth Price.
If you like Intrigue, suspense, and mystery, you’re going to love this new series. Sofia and Abram are the most unlikely pair imaginable.
The characters are realistic and the plot is written so it moves at a quick pace.
I recommend this series if you enjoy a fast pass mystery.
Be aware that you need to read the whole series to get the whole story. -
Not sure
This gives just a small part of a story. Dividing it into ten parts rather than doing a book. Little cliff hangers to keep you coming back. Not sure I will come back for more. -
'Out of Darkness, Book 1' or Old Wounds, New Pathways is the first chapter of a longer story and somewhat of a tease. It sets up a story with an interesting storyline where a woman finds her way to an Amish farm with no memory, dirty and hurt.

Very exciting 1st book in the series. Can not wait to see what happens next! Very worth the time it takes to read. There are nine more books. We will have to see how long it takes. I predict -- not long.

Drew Me In
This story drew me right in from the first paragraph. I'm looking forward to reading more installments of this serial. -
Good book
I am looking forward to reading the rest of the of the series. And will look into reading more of her books. -
What a cheat
This is only an excerpt from the book not the whole thing. Fortunately it was a free download and not something I purchased. -
Love it. This was the whole series in one book but I couldn't find the one I needed.

Bought this as a mega book and the pictured made it look like a bunch of books. Hate this kind of marketing. It is very misleading. I did enjoy the book and will read another of her books and see how it goes.
