A gripping new novel from one of the best-known names in survivalist fiction.

Former Marine-turned-author, G. Michael Hopf grabs readers from page one with his breathtaking blend of action, adventure, and political intrigue. The End—the first book in Hopf ’s New World series—has sold more than 50,000 copies, and word of mouth is quickly building on the series as a whole. In the fourth book, The Line of Departure, the United States is on the brink of total anarchy in the wake of a super-EMP attack. Gordon Van Zandt and his family have managed to beat the odds so far, but can they survive once war erupts?

The Line of Departure (The New World #4) Reviews

The Line Of Departure - G. Michael Hopf No dead time in this series. I look forward to reading the next book!

  • Preacher

Best one of the series yet. The way it leaves off is just begging for a 5th installment!

Death is an unfortunate part of life and Mr. Hopf has no problem killing off major characters. He always seems to kill ones that I really like, which just makes their deaths that much more difficult to read. Regardless, I'm still very much enjoying the series and look forward to reading the next book. None of the books in this series are as good as the first one, but due to the circumstances of the major event that caused this entire plotline, I don't think any of the books could top the first one. I also have to say that Gordon Van Zandt is one hell of a guy. He's suffered more injuries and taken more bullets than anyone I've ever read about. At first, I actually did not like him as a character, but now my view is quite the opposite. Thanks to the epilogues, I know that he and Haley won't die, but that leaves lots of tragic possibilities for the other members of his family. This is also the first book I've ever read where I'm rooting against the United States. As an American, it feels wrong to do so, but I find myself agreeing more with the philosophies of the Republic of Cascadia rather than those of the U.S. Anyway, I'm kind of upset that Sebastian didn't make it (sorry, spoiler alert) I really, really liked him. I especially liked the relationship he and Annaliese had developed. I'm already 4 books deep into this series and i'm really looking forward to reading the rest. I'm holding my breath as I jump into book 5....

    Great post apocalyptic novel.

If I wrote a book, it would probably come out sounding a bit like this one. Only more sarcasm..

  • Itai

    קסקדיה עולה

  • Tim

I’m probably going to go back and rate the first two a 4/5.

Book 4 of the Van Zandt series, and the best so far. Masterfully written, it starts to bring all the pieces of the saga together. Absolutely worth the read.

One of the few series' that keeps getting better and better. Book 4 manages to culminate in its own climax of action that was superbly laid out, while still setting up for what should be an excellent conclusion in Book 5 (which I just ordered today).

    G. Michael Hopf is an excellent writer and very skilled crafter of stories. To any fans of A. American's
Going Home series, James Wesley Rawles'
    Patriots series, or Joe Nobody's
Holding Their Own: A Story of Survival series - just to name a few, you will thoroughly enjoy this series.

Wow, Hopf blows up the mold once again! I was one of the lucky few to receive a pre-sale copy of Line of Departure.

This riveting series is anything but run-of-the-mill. Just when you think you've gotten in Hopf's head, he spews you out!

Line of Departure begins with a twist that leaves you reeling and questioning everything you've ever read from the previous three books. As usual, I'm anything but disappointed. On the contrary, I eagerly await the next adventure.

Another good entry in the series by Hopf. This is not Nobel Prize winning literature by any means. It is an entertaining and engaging distraction. A novelized action movie if you will. For what it is, the writing style isn't bad and the premise of a fractured, embattled post-apocalypse America is pretty hard to get wrong. I would definitely reccomend this and the other books within the New World series...

I received this book through a Goodreads giveaway. I enjoyed the book and was entertained by it. The only part about the plot I don't buy is how the U.S. split up into factions once a crisis hit the country. My experience and my understanding of history show that Americans tend to band together during hard times instead of factionalize.

    Great read

Book 4 is a great continuance of the series. The books have been an enjoyable series and I appreciate the style and tempo of the books. The biggest negative of this series is the waiting in between books. Keep up the good work Mr. Hope......stay frosty

If you have not started this series you should do it now. Book 4 does not disappoint.

    Keeps getting better!

The fourth book in the series is the best yet. I care about the characters and can't wait for installment five!

  • Brigt Nersveen

Forth book in the series and still going strong. The middle section was a bit slow but ad the ending a bit quick. Looking forward to the next in this series.

  • Mark

A good addition to the series. Dives more into how Gordon got 'on board' with Cascadia.

  • Linda

Seems to be just setting up for the next one.

  • Misty Dellinger

This series of books have been a great read. This family can't seem to catch a break and there are more twists and turns with every book. Can't put them down.
