Very powerful book for me on struggles with desert places in prayer. Why do we wind up in bad circumstances--a difficult supervisor, people who misunderstand us, not being appreciated for the gifts we have to bring? Green explores how deeply God allows exactly those circumstances so that he can do a deep, deep refining work in us to bring us closer to God and make us more who we were always meant to be.

3.5 maybe just under 4 stars. a little boring, something about his writing style. In the beginning, i felt like there were probably books covering the same info but better written. But i decided to stick with it. Admittedly ended up taking notes (not my book) as there were points of good insight, haha. Finished in one day. I admit some parts i did read very quickly/skim intentionally (but that wouldn’t have made a difference since I can be a fast reader). Perhaps i could’ve been more prayerful with the book, but book also felt a bit tedious. Maybe i just don’t have the patience right now...
