This was really cute.
After reading some dark n dirty, I needed a cutesy hit.
Naughty scenes, fun scenes, serious scenes and issues.
Perfect little novella -
Kam is a football god - star quarterback and header to Alabama - Crimson Tide as a Freshman Quarterback. Life is good for him. Until an accident puts him on the side line. The one good thing to come out of the accident is Laney Summers. Laney has been is Science Lab partner and other than that has had nothing to do with him. But once she becomes his tutor... she will finally get to see the real Kam Ellis and maybe just maybe finally become his girl.
Great start to the series. This is set in high school so not a lot of steam. But its fun and flirty with just the right amount of teen angst. Looking forward to the rest of the series. -
I am not going to continue with this series, I don't really see the point. Kam and Laney end this book on a happy note, they actually spend most of the story in a good place. They're basically already in love with one another when the story starts, I actually went to GR and Amazon to make sure I hadn't missed a book before this one because everything started off so well for the two of them.
It's my understanding that you can only get this book as part of the bundle now,
The Southern Nights Series -
I have had this for quite some time.. and I had received a ARC of One Northern Morning (review for that on its page) and figured I better read this one first.. hehe.. Not sure why I waited... This was a super fast read.. if you like sweet books..read this one.. There is little agnst/drama.. but nothing to bad..
We have Kam who is your all american Southern Boy and the guy every girl at his highschool wants.. See Kam refuses to be attached to any one girl his senior year.. after a 3 year relationship with one of the school's biggest B***H's he has vowed...NO GIRLFRIENDS.. until Laney walks in...
Laney is a Big City New York girl who moves to Nowhere Alabama with her father once him and her mother divorce.. Laney is probably the only girl who is amune to Kam's charming ways.. or well she is for a while..
After trying and trying Kam finally makes a bet with Laney.. He wins the big game and covers the spread he gets One Southern Night with her..
After the Big Game has been won.. Spread Covered.. Kam is on fire..till it all goes BLACK...
Will Kam and Laney get that southern night? Read to find out.. I really really liked this book alot.. :) -
No big surprises here but I thoroughly enjoyed it anyway!
When the star quarterback and the new girl in town meet on the 50-yard line, you can expect way more than a game of football. This was a really fun-to-read sports-themed novella. Young love - first love - sweet and spicy - and lots of laugh-out-loud moments.
I needed a break after several disappointing reads and found it with Kamdyn and Laney -- on and off the field! -
This one was just okay.
The heroine moves from NYC to Alabama. She tutors the quarterback of her HS after he has a severe injury. The hero is a player. He dated a girl, Cheyenne for three years in high school and does not want a relationship his senior year in high school. The heroine knows the hero is a player, but they still continue to be friends and than more. Predictable. A quick read. Nothing memorable. -
3.5-4 Good Stars
This was short, sweet and yes a bit of sexy too. -
Read this in the
American Honey anthology and I ABSOLUTELY ADORED IT!!!! -
3.5 stars, would have been 4 stars if it was longer

Kamdyn Ellis is the big man at the local high school; he's the football prodigy and star quarterback. Everyone loved Kam...especially the ladies. And since he just wanted to have fun in high school, he never turned them down often.
Lainey Summers was the new transfer student from New York who moved to the small town in Alabama. When her parents got divorced and her dad needed a change.
Lainey and Kam were paired up as lab partners in chemistry class, and Kam fell almost instantly. Lainey was not having it though, she did not want to be just another girl on his roster. Then one day after Kam was seriously injured at a football game, Lainey became his private tutor.
Lainey tutored Kam all while he was recovering, but would Lainey still be able to remain unaffected by Kam after spending all of that extra time with him? Would Kam be the person to finally be able to reach Lainey and heal her?
I loved how the characters had more facets to them than we originally saw from their outward appearance. They grew so much as people as the story moved on and their characters developed.
This was my first book from Marissa Carmel and I really enjoyed it. I cannot wait to start on One Northern Morning. -
I bought this ages ago, so I'm a little late to the reviewing and reading party here, but this book was great.
Short to be sure, but given the novella status of said story here, it didn't come off too surprising.
All things considered, there was a lot of stuff crammed in here that made it read like a full length novel, or at least at times it felt like it to me.
I could easily connect to the characters, their own struggles, especially given their age bracket and who they were at the time the story commenced and I honestly thought that these two falling in love, was the cutest thing ever.
This short and sweet little ditty gave me all the YA feels I've been missing as of late and I couldn't be happier that I finally got the chance to sit down and read it. -
I voluntarily received an advanced review copy of this book and chose to review it.
I liked this story. It was sweet and had the right amongst of angst, but I felt it was rushed. There were so many instances where you'd be reading and suddenly it's two weeks, or two months later. It could be more of a format problem but I think it could've been fleshed out more, to really build the angst and feelings between Kam and Laney.

A hot romance with a sprinkle of 'A Walk to Remember'

Many readers remember the wide spread phenomenon romance novelist capable of wringing the tear and heart wrenching sensation by even the most guarded and senile reader, Nicholas Sparks, of the 2000s - if so, then please, let me introduce you to the 2015 writer that not only matches the geniality in writing but also adds the oomph to captivate any age group of reader for the entire novella, Marissa Carmel. Within two chapters I was hooked. Really. I was bouncing from chat to chat with friends who also have read the same novel simply to ask them if they knew if Ms Carmel had other novels - she has the second novella of the Laney and Kamdyn story as well as an another series that has, for now, two parts. For a new and upcoming novel, she has managed to hook and suck me right into Laney and Kamdyn's high school romance, only without the 'a Walk to Remember' cutesyness, because how can one girl be that 'perfect' and one boy be that 'wrong' and still turn around and become her knight in shining armour; but it also wasn't a crass romance either, there was a story, love, trust issues, two opposite people who managed to complete each other - and still, I don't know how she managed it, my heartbeat kept gaining speed and then I took a break for some water and went right back to reading again. It's simple, there's no vengeance, no deeper plot to hurt anybody, and there's a dream and an ending, and what an ending it was - one that makes you antsy if you can't get your hands to the next part right away. My food for thought, if Marissa Carmel's new adult novels can make your heart skip a beat, if she were to try her hand in romance or contemporary (or heck, 18+), what would readers be treated to then?.

“I slide my fingers into her hair and kiss her reverently. I don’t think she has any idea how much she means to me. But I’m going to do my best everyday to tell her.”
5 Stars!!! I absolutely loved this book!!! I really fell into this book and didn’t come out until I was done!! It hooks you in from page one!! Great characters and the story was a lot of fun to read!

Kamdyn is the football hero in his hometown with all the girls falling at his feet. All except one, Laney. Laney is a no nonsense girl from New York that was forced to leave her plush life behind when her parents got divorced. Now in a new town, with no real friends except her cousin, she has an awkward meeting with Kamdyn. He tries to put the moves on her but she wasn’t having any of it, so because of her sour attitude, he calls her Lemon. They end up becoming friends, but at time goes on Kamdyn realizes that he may want more with her. After an injury puts Kam in a coma he’s forced to relearn how to do things and is on bedrest at home. He’s not too thrilled with the fact that he is being forced to have a tutor, well that is until Laney walks into his room. Their friendship eventually evolves into more, but will he ruin it with his bad boy reputation?? Can Laney put her sassy city girl life behind for the down home football hero?? I really loved this book and I can’t wait to see what’s coming next!!

Laney is starting out her senior year at a new high school and immediately catches the eye of the very popular and attractive quarterback, Kamdyn. Why did I love Laney? Because despite being attracted to Kam, she kept putting him in his place. Even at 18 years old, she had too much self-respect to wind up as just another notch on his bedpost (or storage closet wall). And I liked Kamdyn because as soon as he realised he might actually have a chance to win Laney over, he stopped hooking up with the other girls immediately.
ONE SOUTHERN NIGHT is a novella, so it's a very quick read that only took me about an hour to finish. But despite it being a quick read, I thought the story moved at a good pace. The story does span a few months, but at no point did I feel like I'd miss something important just by blinking. I liked the quirky banter the characters had both out loud and in their heads. While the story takes place at high school, Laney and Kam didn't behave like I expect kids that age to act. There was a little drama when Laney's trust in Kam was tested, but other than that they came across as very mature. The story is told in Kam's POV, with Laney only getting her POV in the prologue, and while it doesn't end in a cliffhanger per se, I know their story isn't finished yet. I'm definitely interested in reading more about Laney and Kam.

Although a novella I loved how it had a beginning, middle and an end. Some novellas may just start in on a story and you don't really get all the facts and you feel lost not with this one this one you got everything. You can tell Kam is used to getting what he wants and well his 'Lemon' and him are secretly lusting after each other, Kam sometimes tries to hard to get her to see reason, "Lemona-" I lean in close to her ear, getting an injection of her intoxicating scent. "If you hang out with me after the game, I'll let you do so much more than just look." As this story progresses something happens to Kam and well you see him look at things in a different perspective, and at some points he became like the woman in a relationship, "I get to spend the first period with Laney, then lunch, then I get to enjoy watching her bounce around in little shorts during volleyballl practice." You see that may not seem like much but if you knew Kam then you'd realize it's a huge thing only thinking about one girl. I mean some things never change like him always envisioning his woman naked, "It goes perfect with her little cut-off shorts and converse sneakers. I wonder if one of these days I can persuade her to wear of cowboy boots. Preferably naked." Now I wouldn't mind Marissa writing more books with southern men because I loved Kam.

After her parents divorce, Laney Summers and her dad relocate to Alabama, where she meets Kamdyn Ellis--the local high school's hot, womanizing, football "god." Despite Kam's constant flirting, Laney refuses to become one among a long list of girls that falls prey to his obvious charms.
A ruptured brain aneurysm from an injury sustained during the championship game has Kam "benched" from both school and football. Expecting a tutor to help him keep up with his classes, Kam is pleasantly surprised when his new tutor turns out to be none other than Laney Summers... the one girl that he just can't stop thinking about!!
"One Southern Night" is a great little novella by author Marissa Carmel. It's sweet, it's funny, and it's romantic! While the story itself is not overly complicated or unique, and has the typical HEA ending I'd come to expect, I found the characters to be well developed and endearing. If you are looking for a quick, enjoyable read, then you'll definitely want to check this one out!! -
Laney is a beautiful, sassy, smart mouth northerner that has just set foot in football loving Alabama. Kam is the scorching hot star quarterback that has his pick of the ladies. When Laney and Kam become chem partners, she makes an impression on him right away. Laney might not be so sure about her new home but looking at Kam every morning certainly isn't a hardship but she will not be another notch on his bedpost. Their flirty banter goes on for awhile until they make a bet. Tragedy strikes before Kam can collect on the bet. Kam has a hard road to recovery, but Laney is there to help. Their friendship turns into more but when Kam goes back to school the ladies don't know he's off the market and things go downhill instantly for Laney & Kam. It takes Kam the rest of the school year to get through to Laney. Now he has a second chance, and he's not going to blow it. Some hot scenes nothing too detailed or raunchy. Fabulous ending.

This is a very short and sweet story of finding your true love. Kam is the star quarterback expected to play for Alabama when he graduates. In the south, football is a huge deal, and he's lived and breathed football for as long as he can remember.
Laney moved to Alabama from New York when her parents divorced. She's lab partners with Kam and may have a slight crush on him. They flirt, but she knows he's a player. When Kam is sacked and suffers a brain aneurysm, he's unable to attend school for a while. Laney is his tutor and during their studies, their feelings intensify for each other. They're really perfect together. Once he goes back to school, there's a misunderstanding and Kam has his hands full trying to get Laney back. He's also struggling to get his body back to where it was before his injury.
Such a sweet story, that has a little hot action on the fifty yard line. Perfect quick read told from Kam's POV. -
I loved One Southern Night. I know a lot of people aren't fond of novellas, but I love them. Sometimes you just want a quick story - a bit of a pick me up - and OSN is perfect for that. The only problem I have with novellas is that I always want more. :)
I really loved both characters in OSN. Laney is just badass. She knows a player when she sees one and I loved that she called Kam out every single time. Plus, she is smart, independent, confident and sassy, which was very refreshing to see.
Kamdyn is your typical god of the football field and total player off the field, but on an even bigger scale. Touted as the number one football player in the country, he gets whatever he wants. And he wants Laney.
I thoroughly enjoyed the banter and battle of wills between these two. The connection between them is instant, but it isn't just physical. They both find a comfort in the other in which they can be themselves.
Overall, this was a fun and pleasant read. -
A very sweet novella about a high school football star and a new girl in town assigned to the quarterback as a science lab partner. Our new girl from the East Coast is not in awe at all of football stars like the rest of the crazy people in Alabama. But, it seems our football star is destined to become the next starting quarterback for the Alabama Crimson Tide, probably the biggest deal possible in this southern town and she is caught up in the hoopla. Then, during his last high school game, he is tackled, suffers a brain aneurysm and his football career is now highly doubtful.
This is a wonderful little story of the quarterback realizing that maybe football isn't the end all to life (although he really loves playing) and she realizes that just because he is a football player doesn't mean he isn't a real life person either, a real life person that she is starting to fall for. -
One Southern Night by
Marissa Carmel is a stand-alone short story about Kamdyn, the high school star quarterback and Laney the new girl in town.
A cute and quirky love story about two people with what appears to be very little in common on the surface, but who come to learn that they have very much in life that they enjoy that is the same. Kamdyn is injured and in rehab after surgery and Laney is assigned as his tutor for the time he is out of school. They quickly grow form acquaintances to friends to lovers while coming to terms with events in their own lives.
Kamdyn and Laney - what a pair. A very sweet romance that flows smoothly and completely in this novella length story. -
Kamdyn and Laney meet in high school. He is the all star quarterback and she is the girl who moved here from the big city and doesn't want to give him the time of day. Kamdyn realizes that Laney is special and tries to prove to her that he can and will change his man wh**e ways. He gets injured and Laney is there to help him recover. He decides to pursue a relationship with her but a misunderstanding gets in the way. Laney is true to herself through this book and it was nice to see. The ending was a great wrap up and I was quite pleased with this short story. Overall a nice, easy book to read if you want to just be entertained for a short while.

In exchange for an honest review. I really enjoyed this book. It was just the right length and I loved getting to know the characters. Before I read this I had just finished reading Beautiful Disaster. I feel that there are parts that remind me of the relationship development between Abby (Pigeon) and Travis Maddox. Specifically, the "popular guy" who doesn't commit to one girl and who sleeps around. I feel both books contain the similar sort of happy ending. I would definitely read more about these people in further books. -
I loved this story of Kam and Laney. The chemistry these two had was sweet and genuine. Kam was the all-American quarterback with the world about to unfold for him until he was injured on the field. His life and his priorities change. Laney is different than the other girls at school. She is from the city and relocated to the country. She was a strong woman with her own self-worth and confidence. Laney instantly saw through all of Kam’s player ways to the man underneath. I loved this story and it might have been a novella but it felt like a full book to me. It was an honest and fresh approach to high school romance. I enjoyed each page of it.

Yes please!
****Liked it: It didn’t shatter our worlds. Something held us back from that amazing moment of complete obsession, but we definitely liked it a lot. We would recommend it to our friends.
The characters were likable. The hero was believable. I felt like he could have fought for her more at points, but I could tell he still cared for her. I do wish there was more than one chapter from the heroines point of view.
All in all, it is worth the quick read.
Totally loved it -
1.5 stars.
Didn't like either of these characters.
Kam was cocky and really obnoxious. I've read my share of cocky characters, so not much of an issue there, I just couldn't like this one.
I didn't like Laney either. She seemed great at times, but then she said or did something that completely made me want to slap her.
This one just wasn't for me. -
Well written, cute novella
I just finished an extremely dark book, so I needed some light reading, and this completely fit the bill. The story is pretty straight forward, nothing earth-shattering, but sweet. The characters were written well, as was the dialogue. I especially enjoyed the banter between the two leads. The sexy moments flowed with the storyline, and it didn't seem forced like some novellas tend to do. Overall, I enjoyed all components of the book and would look for more from this author. -
This book is about the southern high school All-Star athlete Kamdyn Ellis and the sassy city girl Laney Summers from NY, who is immune to his southern charm.
It was a fun quick read. Although the incidents that happen that bring them together were of a serious nature, there are still fun laugh out loud moments in the book. I hope other readers find it was just as good as I thought it was.

Kam is the star quarterback who has offers from just about every college across the U.S! He's also in love with is Chen partner, she just doesn't know it!
Laney is from New York but moved to bfe Alabama when her parents divorced. She's not all about the preps or the jocks, but her Chem partner, who is the star quarterback, is not bad to look at.
A hard tackle sends kam into the hospital with a Aneurysm and into a coma. Thinking football is over his new tutor maybe the thing that helps turn his thinking around!
I loved this just wish is was a full length novel!
