The Shadow of Death (The Shadow of Death Serial #1) Reviews

    Very good read; very touching

This story is very touching in that the life events can happen in any family, not just an Amish one. You can definitely relate to the possibility of such things happening in ones own life. You see and feel the struggles of each of the family; how they each deal in their own way. You wonder how you yourself would react. Ready to read on to so what happens next.

I wouldn't even cal this a short story, it's definitely Not a book! I would consider it long enough to be a beginning chapter. I'm not willing to waste any more time with this author. What she considers a book would take more than 40 of to get a good story out of them. Annoyed I wasted my time on this

Not a complete book or even a novella. This writing was apparently turned into a series of books instead of one complete book. However, series are usually novellas or complete books; not chapters of a book.

There are three serious story editing issues too. Such potential! I’m disappointed in the incompleteness and do not recommend this writing.

    Where is the ending?!

The story just stopped suddenly!! I will not read any more of this series because of this. What there was of the story was good tho. It was about losing a father, a spouse, and the ways it affects different family members.

Ok here's the thing: this isn't the book I read (which was a local Holocaust survivors memoirs), but it was the only thing that came up when I searched the title.

    Needs work.

This book has so much potential, but it's too short. I would never survive a flight with a short story like this. I hope that Ms. Price's other works are longer.

I enjoy reading books; it's part of who I am - I choose books over TV or movies approx 99% of the time. I chose this book because I enjoy anything that focuses on God, Faith, forgiveness, and healing... As harsh as it may sound, and I mean to not offend those reading this, but a lack of forgiveness or failure to forgive is like drinking poison and waiting for the other person/s to die. In this short book, we learn of an Amish man with a wife and children. He is coming home one night when his horse and carriage are by a drunk driver. The pain and loss is overwhelming to his family, especially his widow and older daughter. I must admit such an event would be enough to send me over the edge too. I would also be angry and bitter, but I would forgive, because I don't want to be an angry, bitter person. I know little of the Amish faith other than what I read or see. Their ability to quickly forgive is both amazing and inspirational; that is another reason why I chose this book. My only disappoint with this ("The Shadow of Death - Book 1," ), is
that it was too short. I wanted more. I look forward to reading remaining books in this series, as well as other books authored by Ms Ruth Price. Well done Price!

    Odd

This book was really good but then it just ended with no closing of the story. Book just cut off done strange

  • Sami Fox

    Very short book.

Takes a bit to get into the book. Then the book ends. Feels like I've read a quarter of a book. To "finish" the book now I'm expected to buy 2 more books. It's basically a free prologue.

    Good book

I liked the story that was very good but I think that the book is over priced for the length of the book. This book told a good story of how God works in our lives. But I was disappointed in how the book was presented

  • Sandra Bosbach

    Good read

Didn't to put it down. Always waiting for the next chapter. Didn't want it to end. Wish it continued on.

  • Debra

This would have been much better as the first couple of chapters in a full length book, but as a stand-alone book, it was disappointing.

  • Audrey Knight

    Very good

Shows how the loss of a child and then the loss of a husband can affect you both emotionally and physically.

  • Gail

Another too short book. Part 1 of a 3 part series. i just wish the author would publish all parts as 1 book. Story line is compelling but I'm not sure I want to continue this series.

  • Renata Sutton

    easy fast read very sad

Rather than the first book in the series, this reads more like the first chapter in a single book. Still, it was free and it was an easy notch on my reading challenge bedpost so can't complain.

I was confused by the serializing of this book; I assumed it's number one so must be the beginning of a new saga. Not so, apparently. The characters seem to have had a flood experience and a previous death before this sorrowful tale sets in. Even so, the premise is simple enough that it doesn't take much to catch up to speed.

It's a story about an Amish family, with a little romance on the side. The most compelling thing is the narrator's articulated anger at God at the events unfolding around her. Her wrestling with ideas of free-will vs. 'God's plan' is an engaging conflict.

If the others in the series were free, I'd likely carry on. As it is, I'm not sure this initial part is enough to tickle my curiosity to PAY (I know, absurd) for the next bite-sized installment.
