Light Medieval (very light on the historical accuracy) with lots of romance and some bits of nookie. It does feature that girl-with-a-sword (or should I say lance?) defies-patriarchy trope I love so much, but for me it doesn't work as well outside of fantasy. That said, I liked this book enough to buy another one by this author. I enjoy books that make me smile, and I found myself grinning as I read this one.

Read this as part of a HR collection. I really enjoyed the story but I think there was so much more potential to make this a great book.

There are a few times that I feel excuses were lame, and actions by the characters were not plausable. The secret keeping thing was lame as well. Truly what's the big deal about being poor and needing the jousting money to0 survive the winter.

I also found the flip flopping a bit tiresome. One minute it's "I knew you were dishonorable from the moment I saw you!" then it's " I fell in love with you the momment I saw you" and then it's "I love you just the way you are" ther next minute it's" You dress and act like a man! How can I present you to my family?"

What a shame. I would have given 5 stars if it wasn 't for the wishy washy stuff.

My Noble Knight, by Laurel O’Donnell is a heart pounding, dramatic love story. Laurel is able to pull her readers into the book from the very begging. The book opens up to the excitement of a jousting competition. The action from these competitions has the reader questioning the rules/ laws, right along with one of the leading characters from the book. Laurels writing is always fresh and informative for her readers.
The fast pace of this book has the reader getting lost in the romantic love story of Layne and Griffin. Layne is a young woman who struggles to be in the jousting competitions, dominated by men. Including her three brothers. The family enters the competitions to win the purse, so that they can save their fathers land. But the evil hand has different plans for Layne and her brothers.
Griffen comes into this world with one sole mission, to take down the person who brought embarrassment upon him. Together Layne, her brothers and Griffen battles against evil lords and knights. Back stabbing best friends. Being thrown into dungeons. Sword fights and lost limbs.
The group doesn’t falter. In the mist of all this, Griffin sees the beauty in Layne. He sees the power she wills with her ambition to save her family and to be a woman who dominate’s men in their own backyard. Griffin tries to deny this hunger for Layne, but succumbs to her beauty.Yes my fellow readers.
I recommend this book. Until next time... read on! I voluntary reviewed this ARC after receiving a free gifted copy.

How best to describe this story: A Knight's Tale meets The Little Mermaid.

Except... you know, without the fins.

The heroine of the book, Layne, has traveled with her brothers to all the tournaments in 1360s England. No female escort. She wears a tunic and breeches. You won't catch this chick in a dress.

No, no. This girl wants to be able to compete. She wants to be one of the guys. She wants to be able to prove her worth. She just wants...

So what does she do? She goes after more. Much to her detriment. She's dishonored everyone, it seems. The knights are ready to beat her and throw her to the wolves for dishonoring their field of honor.

So the hero, Griffin, the best knight of the realm, or summat, takes it upon himself to reform Layne into a woman. She likes the way she is. She only wants to practice with her brothers, groom the horses, clean the armor, wield weapons... But Griffin's not having any of that. He makes her do womanly things.

But Griffin finds out she's highly educated when it comes to knightly pursuits. She even has an elevated sense of honor. Griffin begins to fall for her.

All in all, it was a cute read for no cost. Whoever published the book needs to edit it a bit more.
Forgive the gifs. They amuse me.

A very sweet romance about an unconventional lady and the knight who loved her, My Noble Knight was a fantastic historical romance. It was a lovely read and I really liked it.

Layne was a wonderful heroine. Definitely unconventional, with her tendency to disdain dresses and liking for swords. She could be a bit reckless but, overall, she was a strong and interesting character that I liked.

Griffin was great as well. He was sweet and the epitome of honorable. He could be rather oblivious about certain things. But, I thought he was a sweetie and I really liked him as well.

The romance was lovely. I thought they were very sweet together, especially with how Griffin love Layne because of her quirks, not in spite of them. I thought they were a perfect couple.

The plot was fast paced and I was totally engaged the entire way through. I really enjoyed the story and ht ending was perfect.

My Noble Knight was a lovely, sweet, delightful romance that I really liked. Romance lovers, this is a book you'll definitely want to check out.

A young woman defeats a champion knight in a joust...and pays for her actions. Traveling from tournament to tournament, three brothers and their sister compete to win enough to buy a farm for their ailing father and give them a home. One mistake changes all of their lives, especially the sister who finds her knight. GREAT READ!

3.5 stars. Mad points deducted because I wanted a little smut and there was none. Yes- I am subtracting points for lack of fun-times. I don't judge you for subtracting points for books containing fun-times.... well, just a little judging.

This is dramatic, suspenseful, romantic and entertaining. Griffin is tough, brave, chivalrous, protective and generous. Layne is stubborn, impulsive, bold, daring and honest. After being unhorsed for the first time ever in competition, Griffin is shocked and enraged to find that it was a woman that did it, but when he found that she was headed for the dungeon for it, he had to intervene on her behalf. It went against his code of honor to have any woman treated that way. Instead, he takes charge of her, vowing to teach her how a woman behaves. Unfortunately for him, she's no ordinary woman, she's smart, has guts and is honorable. Layne discovers that he's not just another knight, she's everything she could want in a man. But she's far from being what any man would want. Him taking charge of her is just the beginning of the drama, things go downhill from there. I couldn't put it down until I was done.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. This is my honest and voluntary opinion of it.

    Wonderfully compelling historical romance!

Growing up as an only girl with three brothers, I can surely identify with Layne and the relationship she had with her brothers. I loved how the writing was insightful and accurate to both the historical period and the family interactions.

Griffin was everything a knight hero should be, and more. I loved his patience and his willingness to view life from Layne’s perspective.

The story was well-written and captivating from the first page. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Sweet, clean medieval romance. Honorable knight--almost too much so. At times unbendable on society's expectations of what is acceptable behavior for a "proper" lady. Falling in love with a heroine who can joust almost as well as he can, wears "britches" instead of dresses, and dedicates her life to helping her family even when it hurts her heart, was not in his "jousting" plan. Enjoyable read.

Attention getter from the start!! If curiosity killed the cat, I'm next. In her wildest dreams Layne knew she would never joust...until one day....then came Griffin! A knight so Noble, kind and handsome. The pace if the book is just right and the ending will leave you wanting a sequel!! I highly recommend this book.

  • Gina Ann

    Very noble indeed.....

Good clean medieval love story that is fast paced. The storyline takes place at a jousting event that the family must win to save their home. Lots of action and good chemistry between the hero and heroine, ended to soon.

I really haven't read any historical romance novels in quite some time although I've continued to add them to my reading lists and piles. Laurel O'Donnell is an author who I've wanted to read for a very long time. I had high hopes for this book and they were met.

I quite like heroines who are feisty, and Layne is the epitome of that. I love how she was observant, quick witted, and talented in jousting and swordplay, everything a lady should not be. I also loved how she was with her brothers and the way they treated her as one of them, even though she was a girl. I loved Layne's strong sense of honor; she placed a very high value on it. Griffin I liked from the beginning as well. I guess it was more his (mostly) misguided sense of chivalry and his pre-prescribed role for females. I think he would've done much better had he listened to Layne from the beginning of the book. They were both wonderful together.

The story really impressed me. It's unique and yet still has almost everything a conventional historical romance novel has. I was hoping for more closure with Griffin's brother and his wife. I was a but taken aback when all these other family members appeared all of a sudden, but Laurel introduced them in a way my fears soon disappeared. The story has no slow points and jumps from one point to another very quickly. I read this book just as fast as I could. The mystery was really well written and kept me guessing as to who was the coward in question.

Another thing that really surprised me was the amount of emotional attachment I formed with the characters, not just Layne and Griffin, but also her brother's Cole, Frances, and Michael. I love that parts of the story were told from their points of view. It added something extra to the story. Now that I've read my first Laurel O'Donell novel, I know it won't be my last.

It 's a very sweet and romantic novel, a great love story.

It's set in 1363, in England
Layne is the only girl of four children, is an unconventional woman, who prefers riding and sword of women's clothes. Griffin is a knight who has never lost a jousting. It 's a true gentleman. One of the Layne's brother, Frances, must participate in a major jousting and must win the amount at stake. Their family needs it. Frances must challenge the invincible Griffin but he feels bad. Layne took the opportunity to participate in his place, though it was forbidden for women to play. She manages to throw and beat the talented Griffin. But when she saw the wounded man to the ground she only thinks to rescue him and unwisely removes her helmet to reveal to everyone that she is a woman. She is fined but they can not pay. To avoid their jail Griffin offers to pay, in exchange wants the girl to live with him, he wants to make a real lady. Colin, her older brother, reluctantly accepts, knowing that soon will be able to pay back the money will regain his sister.......
The pace is fast and exciting thanks to the very short sentences. The scene of the jousting is described in detail: it is clear that the author has studied a lot of history of the period. I loved the two main characters: Layne is a strong woman, funny and determined while Griffin is a true knight noble-hearted.
Must read for those who love historical romance.

A very light fluffy romance, a change from what I've been reading recently.

Layne Fletcher is an unconventional woman for her era, with her interest in sword playing and jousting, with the latter putting her against a very honorable knight.

Griffin Wolfe has been the undefeated jousting champion, until Layne. He takes Layne under him as a fine for her participating in a joust in her brother's place. Griffin tries to make a lady out of Layne; will he be able to or are there things better left untouched?

I really liked Layne. She's really funny, especially when pitted up against Griffin. She has brains and beauty. It reminds us that a lady is not made because of her interests, she is one because of how she carries herself.

Griffin is the most noble person I've known. He sticks to the knight's code by heart. And that, itself, is a very notable thing.

I'd recommend this book to those who seek light romances. It'd warm your heart right up.

    A noble knight indeed

Oh how I just loved this book -- with just a few pages in it just zinged for me! I really loved Griffin's character. He is such a honorable person, definitely one that I would want for my knight in shining armor. Also what I like about the book is how Layne's relationship with her brothers is portrayed -- how they teased her like normal siblings do and that it wasn't written with old medieval English, not that I mind that in some books, it's just flows better for me with modern English. I'm so glad that I bought this book and gave it a try, didn't regret it one bit plus the cover is lovely to look at as well.

  • Shopgirl

I liked this quite a lot, probably more than the rating reflects, but the reason for only three stars was the big disappointment I felt when there was no final confrontation with the villain. He and hero have a confrontation that ends with the villain being bested, but then the villain swears vengeance and runs off. I was definitely expecting another final confrontation, with the heroine in mortal danger and the hero having to saving her (especially when she flees into the rain on her own and the hero has to go find her), but instead the villain just disappears. So everything wraps up just a little too neatly with too little effort. This could easily have been a 5 star if not for that.

Second book in the bundle of
    Magnificent Medieval Knights
Young woman trying to gain her father's attention became proficient at jousting while practising with her brothers. In desperation or exhilaration she defied convention and as punishment a knight decided to take her in hand.

It's s sweet tale of chivalry, family, demonstrations of skills and peek into the lives of those on the jousting circuit with a splash of the unconventional.

    Enjoy.

This was a fantastic read. It sounded so familiar I looked in my bookcase to see if I had the paperback. Layne is trained by her 3 brothers to joust, swordplay anything done at tournaments against her father's wishes. Griffin is the best there is, but someone is out to sabatoge him. Layne's brother hits his head and is knocked out, so she decides to take his place cause they need the money for the farm. She has to go against griffin and manages to unseat him. Things go crazy from there. I really enjoyed reading this story.

One of the best books I have read in a long time.

I gave this book a 5 rating because I just could not put it down. When I did all I could think of was what was going to happen next. What I like most is that Layne reminds me of myself. I would recommend this book to all my friends that love to read.
