The third book begins with Artemis going back to his old ways again, trying to exploit the fairies. Obviously things go horribly wrong yet again, and the LEP steps in. But that's as far as the similarities go. Colfer's imagination knows little repetitiveness, and everything keeps getting better. And ditto on all the good stuff about the first two books.

The series that just keeps on giving. For once the world's youngest super villain is completely outwitted and suffers a huge loss... AND may have caused The People great harm. The team is reunited to help Artemis save a friend, destroy an enemy and save The People!
Another interesting and unique adventure. Will Artemis' path to goodness continue, or will this huge setback also set him back. And what grave price will The People charge him for compromising them? Great stuff! 7.5 out of 12.

The Eternity Code (Artemis Fowl #3), Eoin Colfer
Artemis Fowl and the Eternity Code covers Jon Spiro's theft of the fictional C Cube and its recovery. Jon Spiro is an American businessman, who has his bodyguard kill Butler and steals Artemis's C Cube, which is a handheld supercomputer that he made from stolen fairy technology.
Butler, after dying (and being put into a fish freezer in an emergency attempt at cryonic preservation), is resurrected by the elf Holly Short. Mulch Diggums (under the pseudonym Mo Digence) is hired alongside Loafers McGuire by Spiro to kidnap Artemis to access the C Cube, which is encrypted by an Eternity Code only Artemis knows how to decrypt.
Holly agrees to help, but with the condition that Artemis and his allies are to be mind-wiped. With the help of the dwarf and Butler's sister , Juliet, they raid Spiro Needle, the building housing Spiro's company, and retrieve the C Cube again. It ends with the fairies and Foaly mind-wiping the three humans, and Artemis gives Mulch Diggums a (supposed) medallion that Holly gave to Artemis in The Arctic Incident, while secretly being a disk that will bring back his memories of the fairies.

The name of his invention is C Cube. It is made by the technologies of Fairies also. Artemis uses the things which his bodyguard confiscated from fairies in the first book.
Now, as always, Artemis wants fortune. Huge amount of Fortune. So he plans to sell his astonishing invention to a business man named, Jon Spiro, in exchange of huge amount of gold *That's where the story becomes more exciting* Spiro steels the C Cube from him and the story revolves around how Artemis will retrieve the C Cube? Again!
In this book Artemis hadn't had his bodyguard for help. He got deadly injured. Artemis was on his own. I thought so. But nottt! This time, again, Artemis teamed up with Fairies to regain the C Cube. Fairies was also threatened by the C Cube for a reason. That's why they helped.
Fourth book will be super interesting. I know that!! -
Slowly, but surely, making my way through this series.
I'm definitely enjoying my re-read of the Artemis Fowl Series. I did take a break between books 2 and 3 though because I watched the movie based - it's on Disney+. It was good and interesting but I of course was comparing it to the book. Still enjoyable though but I'm glad that I didn't pay to see the movie in theaters.
Back to the book, well in The Eternity Code you have the gang back together. There's just something about Artemis, Holly and Butler that makes me smile. Just like last time, I definitely loved Mulch. Heck, I even liked his character in the movie because who doesn't love Josh Gad! Uhm, hello Olaf lovers!
Even though these books are so short and I fly through them, they are jam-packed with so much action and twists. I love it and I can't wait to get my hands on the next book!

The Eternity Code is the third installment of the Artemis Fowl series. It was so freaking good! So much action, twists, turns, and death! I also just really love Artemis as a character - but I think I might have a new favorite: MULCH!
Okay, so I'm not going to lie.. this book definitely took me on a whirlwind kind of adventure. There were so many things that I seriously didn't see coming. I'm surprised that I didn't actually but it made me like the book even more! I definitely almost cried during some scenes but I was so happy with the overall turnout.
I'm still shocked that Artemis is around 13 years old and outsmarting so many people. I loved the ending of this book though. He basically told me what would happen if they did something that he didn't want. They did it still. Now I can't wait to see evil kid genius again! Or whoever he will be after that memory swipe.
Overall, the action was jam packed. The "deaths" were almost heartbreaking. The friendships that were formed or getting a stronger bond were amazing. I love Artemis and Butler together. Then there's Holly who should really stop changing her mind on healing people. That girl needs a break! Mulch is my favorite because he insults people from time to time.
I need more and I really need the next book! -
Done reading THE ETERNITY CODE - Book 3 in Artemis Fowl octalogy. I am loving the character development, especially in the first three chapters. The author manages to add an extra layer of depth to all the major characters. I hardly know Artemis Fowl in the first two books but here, I get to understand him on a more personal level. One, he keeps an encrypted journal about his father's recovery. Two, Butler died saving his master but magically resurrected. Thanks to Captain Holly Short. Three, a fairy technology created by Fowl himself is stolen by a greedy businessman. If Artemis Fowl can't recover it on time, it either saves or destroys the world. The story ends in a cliffhanger but for sure, THE OPAL DECEPTION reveals the answers. Crossing fingers.

Really rather enjoyed this next adventure of Artemis Fowl and the fairies. It helps that the previous two books fleshed out the characters. I find I’ve come to care for all of them :0)
Colfer also puts together some brilliant plots. Here it is maybe a little more straightforward, which is not a negative, and features a crazy heist a la Mission Impossible. Lots of fun! -
The Eternity Code is book 3 in the Artemis Fowl series by Eoin Colfer, and IMHO the best of the bunch so far. Artemis and his bodyguard, Butler are meeting with an American industrialist that has mob connections with the hope of enticing him with misappropriated fairy technology into a lucrative business venture. However, Artemis has miscalculated the ruthlessness of the opposition which results in the apparent death of a trusted friend. When he realizes the serious jeopardy that he has imputed on loved ones and trusted associates, Artemis has no alternative but to call the LEP Recon fairy folk, Captain Holly Short, Foaly, and Mulch Diggums for help in extricating himself from the self-inflicted predicament. The obvious affection that has begun to knit these characters into a tapestry of friendship is absolutely spellbinding. The plots are sufficiently complex that they are unique, but simple enough to follow without needing maps, diagrams, or character studies. These stories are captivating because there is a fascinating mix of technology, science, and magic that I find both whimsical and enchanting. Would it be fair to call these novels urban fantasy?

I think it’s safe to say I love this series.
The beginning of this book just made me love Butler more than I already did? And it made me love the Artemis and Butler dynamic all the more. In fact, the entirety of this book did. I feel like it did a very good job of showing the closeness of their relationship at the beginning of this book, and at the end too.
I did not think I needed more about Juliet Butler in my life, but I did?! I love that she can do all this cool bodyguard and kick-butt fighting stuff, but also loves make-up and being funny. Both of sides to her are part of her, and it is charming. I love when we see that you can be feminist and you can be unashamedly into make up and fashion and strong too. There is no ‘criterion’ for feminism.
I am terrible at noticing descriptions for characters, but it is only now that I am realising the level of diversity in this series. Holly was first described as black in the first book (coffee complexion, apparently). In this book it repeats that the Butlers are European-Asian. And of course, we have Artemis, our Irish main character.
I really appreciate that the book never forgets to remind us that Artemis is a child-genius, and this comes with a lot of belittling from other people. When people meet him, they treat him like a thirteen year old, or dismiss him more often than not. I found it incredibly realistic.
This book reverts back to the heist story plot we get in the first book. I felt like it did a very good job of being a high stakes, exciting story once again. There were some ‘dumb’ characters which did make the job a little easier than if they had been intelligent opponents, but there were enough smart ones too to make it a formidable task.
As usual for this series, I liked that we get some good moral messages. Even when the Butlers may be using violence to detain some of the ‘bad’ guys, their actions are paired with remarks such as, ‘there is no joy in violence.’ Mostly with the Artemis Fowl series, things are solved with mind games.
As for character development, in this book Artemis Fowl truly stole my heart. My little crime lord teenager developed and grew as a person. It was so heart-warming to see that he was forming friendships and caring about people, but then also see that he still had that ruthless edge that made him himself. And the ending… the ending was perfect. I usually hate when this trope is used at the end of a book, but I loved it in this one. I felt like it showed some interesting things about development and also about the humans to fairy relationship.
The ending was so satisfying and perfect. Just how it always is for this series. I need the sequel now! -

This book had me engrossed. Though not as good as the first one this was still a masterpiece. The action, character development and ingenious designs of the boy genius had me on the edge of my seat. Will be forever grateful for this series. -

The third book in this installment make me fond of these characters much more. I love how the characters development towards each other. How the finally realized, they aren't enemies and so close enough to call as 'friends'. But oh how, they're different species (Mud People and the People) and for that, the secrets and revelation of identity could put a threat towards each other.

This book have A LOT of whoa-i-didn't-see-that-coming moments. It's really hard to put the book down, knowing every scene is keep going on fast pace motion. It's a really a fun and amazing ride throughout the book.
Other than that, the emotional wave at the very last chapter. It's just so undeniable not to shed any tears because really, I AM IN LOVE WITH THESE CHARACTERS.

I loved
The Arctic Incident so much that this was a bit of a letdown as the follow-up. Having said that, it was a very entertaining book. Even though I have a paper copy, I picked up the audiobook narrated by a favorite British actor of mine, Nathaniel Parker. He narrated the heck out of it. I loved his various accents, everything from Irish to New Yorker.
Artemis is still being a criminal genius, but his conscience is being impacted by his father's return and new lease on life, and his association with the Faery people. When his latest scheme results in a tragic outcome to one of his beloved companions and powerful fae technology falling into the hands of a megalomanic, immoral tech billionaire, he has his work cut out for him getting it back.
I still love the concept of a teenage super-genius would-be villain. I like that Artemis is still antiheroic without being sociopathic or downright evil. His character has grown and it makes him more interesting. I love his bodyguard, Domovoi Butler, so some things that happened to him weren't my favorite. His sister, Juliet has a much larger role. She's a fun character. Very much a late-teenaged girl, but also with a genetic and upbringing that makes her a lethal and capable bodyguard.
I'm a sucker for anything Faerie, so those part definitely appealed. I didn't think Holly's role was as impactful, but Mulch Diggums is always a hilarious character. He's a bit disgusting, if I'm honest, but still lots of fun.
I will say this, Colfer knows how to create some reprehensible villains. He always makes me laugh, but at the same time, there is a chilling undercurrent when you consider that these people are wanting to do terrible things to a teenaged boy (even one as annoying as Artemis Fowl). Arno Blunt is rather like the evil version of Butler, but much less awesome or cool. In other words, he's no match!
This book has some enjoyable spy action scenes and faerie happenings, which I appreciated. I think I was just so impressed with the last book, that it seemed to fall short for me. I can't say too strongly how much I will miss Butler taking more of a physical role in the books, if what has happened in this one affects future books like it seems it will.
You know I will keep reading this series.

The Eternity Code is the strongest book in the series so far.
Artemis has changed from the villainous mastermind 12-year old we met in the first book, but a lot of the things in his life has changed. He has family back, he has friends, and most importantly Artemis has grown a lot as a person: he has developed a conscience. None of which would have been possible if wasn't for fair-folk in the Lower Element Holly, Folly, Root, and of course Mulch.
But even with all of that, Artemis is not ready to let go of his criminal dealing entirely. And his hubris costs him big time. Let's just say there were some tears spilled over this book.
The plot was simply riveting and I think this is definitely the best book by far, not just in terms of characters, but also writing quality. It's almost as if it's growing more mature alongside the main character.
The end is wrapped up neatly - I'm guessing this was supposed to be the last book originally. And it ends on a good note if this is where you want to finish. I will go on reading the series from here.
I do have a couple of questions: a few of times Butler uses his influence to prod Artemis onto the right path? Why hasn't he done so before to keep Artemis from his evil schemes in the first place?
If Artemis is a genius, then why hasn't he tested out of school? He could be doing college level work instead of being forced to spend time in a learning environment beneath him and perhaps spend time with people his own age in some other capacity? -
For those of you who have read Eoin Colfer's series about Artemis Fowl, you will understand the possibility for addiction. That is also true for those who have read J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series of books and Lemony Snicket's books written by Lemony Snicket and Brent Helquist. You read one book and the author transports you to a realm that is far away and filled with wonder. You do not have to be a child or young adult to be drawn in. That is the case for me with Eoin Colfer's books. Books 3 and 4 of the series, The Eternity Code and The Opal Deception, feature Artemis and his bodyguard, Butler, about to pull off the largest technology coup - to sell a technologically advanced computer made with fairy electronics. This is to be his last illegal deed in order to become legitimate as his father has requested. However, it all goes wrong and Butler almost pays the ultimate price. Artemis agrees to undergo a mind swipe in order to receive a "healing" for Butler.
In the next book, Artemis goes up against Opal Koboi, a fairy genious and criminal, after having his memories restored about the fairy people. He must save the secrecy and existence of the fairy people from the "mud people" or humans that Opal is determined to expose the fairy people and world to.
Both books are another example of the excellent writing skills of Colfer! Although the books were released in 2009, netgalley.com is offering them for review in anticipation of the final book in the series release date of July 2012. I find them to be timeless classics of children's fantasy. -

Artemis is such a polarising character. On one hand, you can see how vulnerable and emotionally stunted he is because of his upbringing and complications of him being a child genius, so you empathize with him. On the other hand, you know that he's still just a cheeky boy that you can't help but just shake your head on his schemes and deviousness. 🤦🏻♀️

This book, Artemis Fowl: And the Eternity code by Eoin Colfer, was a cracking good read. After having read the past books, this one is my favorite because it has well written humor and a great plot that keeps you hooked from the beginning. The series is about Artemis Fowl, a young criminal genius that comes in contact with the fairies that live below ground.
On this book, the author uses great imagination when he makes Artemis use the fairy technology he stole in the first book to create something he calls a C-Cube, a piece of technology far beyond ours that lets you control everything that is on the web. Artemis goes to Chicago in hopes of extending his founds by selling it to businessman Jon Spiro. The author introduces us the plot when Spiro steals the Cube and makes us even more hooked into it when Spiro's bodyguard shoots Butler (Artemis' bodyguard and friend). This becomes a problem, but Artemis manages to freeze Butler and uses help from fairy officer Holly Short to then revive him.
Artemis then asks Holly Short and his fairy friends to help him regain the Cube by entering Jon Spiro's top head security building. This is when the story begins to get exciting, since the best part is how Artemis' plan just fits right in with every single aspect and detail of what happens, and the author made a great job by making Artemis' plan just hit you in the gut when it all works out.
In the end, Artemis manages to get into the top security vault and regains the Cube, and Eoin brings even more justice into the story when Artemis bankrupts Spiro's company in the process. The reader feels as if all he has read is gone when Artemis gets his mind wiped out, making all memories of fairies disappear. In the end however, the author fills us with hopes of reading the next book when yet another of Artemis' great schemes will make him regain it in the future.
I recommend this book for everyone, since it really is a good read and when you (or at least I did) finish reading it, you will just wish that it goes on. -

এই জিনিয়াস কেবল মুগ্ধই করে যাচ্ছে একের পর এক ধামাকা দিয়ে। এই যেমন পর পর দুইটা অভিযান করে সে ঠিক করলো ভালো হয়ে যাবে, তবে... হ্যা। একটা তবে, কিন্তু, যদি থাকবেই থাকবে 😂 শেষ একটা দাঁও মারবে, এরপর সুবোধ লক্ষ্মী ছেলেটি হয়ে জীবন কাটিয়ে দিবে। এখানেই লাগে ঝামেলাটা। অবশ্য ক্রিমিনাল এই মাস্টারমাইন্ড আর গেঞ্জাম-এই দুটোকে একে অন্যের প্রতিশব্দই বলা চলে। সেই সূত্র ধরে লাগলো এক ক্যাচাল। নৃশংস ব্যবসায়ী জন স্পাইরো বোকা বানালো ওদের। মানে বাটলার আর আর্টেমিসকে। প্রস্তুত ছিল না আর্টেমিস, গোলাগুলিতে গুরুতরের চেয়েও গুরুতর আহত হলো বাটলার। জীবন-মৃত্যুর সন্ধিক্ষণে প্রিয় বন্ধুকে দাঁড়িয়ে থাকতে দেখে আর্টেমিস টের পেল শেষ দাঁও মারতে যেয়ে কি ভুলটাই না করেছে সে। এখন উপায়?
আর্টেমিসের কাছ থেকে ছিনিয়ে নেওয়া প্রযুক্তিটার মাধ্যমে দুষ্টু জন স্পাইরো সহজেই খুঁজে পাবে দ্য পিপল কে। তার মানে ওরাও এখন হুমকির মুখোমুখি। তিতলি কি পারবে থুক্কু আর্টেমিস কি পারবে বিপদ থেকে উদ্ধার পেতে?-এরকম ডাম্ব কোয়েশ্চেন করে কোন লাভ নেই। এইটা স্পয়লারও না 😂 প্রজেক্ট ফেল করলে নিশ্চয়ই আর্টেমিস ৪,৫,৬,৭,৮ নাম্বার সিরিজগুলার অস্তিত্ব থাকতো না 😛 যাকগা! অন্য সময় তো বাটলার ছায়া হয়ে ওর পাশে পাশে থাকে কিন্তু এবারে তো বাটলারও.. বিপদের মোকাবেলা কিভাবে করে আর্টেমিস সেটাই প্রচন্ড রকমের উপভোগ্যের বিষয়।
হলি, ফোয়েলি, মালচ আর আর্টেমিসদের আরেকটা দুর্ধর্ষ অভিযান। ❤️ -

I really liked this story because this book wasn't about a bad guy from the fairy world. It was a Mud Man.
Then, Butler was healed (again by the beautiful and talented Captain Holly Short), but he was permanently.....old....???
Plus, Juliet is back!!!!!! Omg and she's prettier than ever! Her badass moves are better than ever!
Now for the best part......Holly and Artemis get close!!!!! They both were going to miss each other and even though they didn't say much before the brain wipes.......they.....(me crying right now) both had the thoughts and Artemis's were so sweet.......😭😭😭😭

I have vivid memories of the first two Artemis Fowl books, but apparently none whatsoever for this one. Apparently I didn't reread it very often -- which is a shame, because it is an excellent instalment.
The characters really come into their own here, with great chemistry between all the cast -- plus, Juliet gets to play a bigger role, and she is so much fun. The writing style has really picked up too, and while the plot doesn't have quite as much going on as in previous books (that is, not every single character is involved in their own subplot that ties into the main plot), it does make for a smoother, more unified feeling. A maturer Artemis Fowl adventure, I guess.
My main issue with this book was how often it's brought up that Fowl is a genius. We know this from the first two books -- where it is telegraphed loudly, but there is some evidence to back it up. This book starts with Fowl being suckered in the most simple of ways, and his adversary, Spiro, just doesn't seem nearly as smart as, say, Foaly was in the first book or Opal in the second. So it was hard to believe that Spiro was so easily winning. And while the main thrust of Fowl's plan is not as disastrous as in other books, it just makes it all the more grating to hear, every few pages, that Fowl is a genius/his plan is to be trusted because he's so smart/but Artemis knows what he's doing because he always does.
Plus, we have ample evidence -- again, from the previous two books -- to know that Fowl has some huge blindspots. It would just be much better for Colfer to trust that we can see his genius, than to feel he needs to tell us that constantly.
The other issue, though this was much smaller, is that while taking Butler more or less out of the equation for the main heist raises the stakes considerably (he's an OP character even in a book chock full of them), I did really miss him. He's great fun, and is both literally and metaphorically a huge presence in the previous books, so his absence was very noticeable.
I suspect it is those two points that stopped me rereading this one quite so much, but this was definitely a very good entry into the series, and I'm glad I could read it with more-or-less fresh eyes! -
So far, my favorite in the series.
Artemis has managed to restore both of his parents not only to the land of the living, but to health. There's a down side--Dad is a reformed man, more concerned about family than wealth, so Artemis must control his shenanigans. He decides to have one last caper . . .
Unfortunately, he tries to extort money from one or the most ruthless industrialists in the world, which has the very bad effect of inadvertently putting fairy technology (far more advanced than anything humans have) in the hands of someone who is both tech savvy and of low moral character. So Artemis and his frienemies in the LEPRecon service must recover the technology and set a false trail so that all forget that fairies existed.
Interestingly, in his repeated contact with the LEPRecon staff, Artemis has grown from a spoiled brat with criminal tendencies to a pretty likable, admirable human being. But Butler, Artemis' longtime friend and bodyguard, is nearly killed, and he is willing to do anything in order for the fairies to use their healing powers on Butler--including undergoing a mind wipe, meaning that Artemis and Butler will forget all about fairies' existence.
This creates a moral conundrum--if Artemis forgets fairies, what will happen to the moral sense that has awakened in him because of the fairies? Interesting stuff--complex yet not hard to follow, a fast read, great action, and many chuckles.
Worth reading even if you don't know the other books in the series. -
I actually enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would! I remember reading the first two a couple years ago and not being that enthused, but I had a fun time reading this. It’s pretty fast paced and super easy to get into the story, and over all I found it really enjoyable.
The writing style sometimes got a bit annoying, with some dialogue or small actions seeming a bit unrealistic, but I realised that I might not have thought that a couple years ago, when I was more in the age group intended. And again, it wasn’t that often, so I don’t mind it too much. -
