Film Theory for Beginners Reviews

This was my first attempt at starting to be more involved in the theoretical side of film, rather than the practical side. I believe that this book is great as an introduction to what film theory is (it is called “... for beginners” after all). However, my only complaint is that there are some concepts which I believe needed more exploration. Some chapters feel a little rushed which lead me to be somewhat confused at the end of it. But overall, still a great way to get a gist of what film theory is and how it has developed over many years.

Very informative and easy to read book for someone who is looking for a lighthearted refresher on the basics of film. The illustrations are good and help the reader understand and visualise some of the concepts. I also liked the concept of student-teacher discussion and loved the amount of questions and more philosophical aspects, which were present all throughout.

If you need a brush-up on Film Theory, this is a great book. Great for high school students, and good for generating ideas for film essay topics.
