The Davidson Case (Heartfelt Cases, #3) Reviews

Another great Christian mystery/thriller by Julie Gilbert. She makes her characters come to life and you feel like you are part of the story. Her books are very well written and keep you guessing all the way to the end of the book. This time someone is trying to kill Ann's sister and she will do whatever it takes to protect her even at the risk of her own life.

Joy Davidson is just trying to do her job at an animal clinic when she uncovers evidence of a treacherous conspiracy. Her discovery makes her a threat to the operation and a target for the conspirators. The fact that Special Agent Ann Duncan is Joy's sister may keep Joy safe or put her in more danger in The Davidson Case by author Julie C. Gilbert.
I jumped into this third book of the Heartfelt Cases series after having liked the first two books. I found this one somewhat more difficult to follow than its predecessors, as a few parts seemed disjointed, and I had some trouble keeping track of all the different criminals' names, associations, and motives.
Still, I enjoyed Ann and Patrick's "married people" banter and how they encourage each other in their faith and work as a team in precarious situations. Once the action really picked up, it kept me engrossed and guessing—albeit there wasn't really a whole lot of time for guessing, since sharp turns I didn't see coming, came. And they came in thrilling fashion.
While the first three books in the series have each given me a rather short and sweet "primetime crime drama" fix, the next book may be more of a movie than a television episode.
Bring it. -
I did enjoy this story but found I got fed up with all the praying which is a same because otherwise it is a good story and series. I have listened to the other books in the series and enjoyed them, the other books did have religious aspects to them but this one had a little to much. I liked the characters and it was nice to learn a bit more about her and Patrick's family life. I hope there will be another book in this series.
FBI agent Ann Duncan gets a case that hits a little to close to home for her liking. Her baby sister is attacked in her own home and it is only by the grace of God that she is alive and the fact that Ann herself stopped him. But he was only hired help and her life is still in danger. With Patrick away giving talks, Ann must solve this case on her own. The couple is taunted and an old enemy from there past resurfaces. Can they be related to the attack on her sister or just a coincidence?
I liked the narrator and thought she did a good job expressing all the emotion that goes into this story. -
This case hits too close to home...
The Davidson Case is the third book that I've listened to in the Heartfelt Cases series from Julie C. Gilbert and I think it's easily my favorite. The suspense was more interesting and I kinda had to chuckle at the somewhat casual it's-all-in-a-day's-work attitude Ann and Patrick have toward being kidnapped and tied up.
I enjoyed the variety of angles that made up the case, which, at first, seem like they couldn't possibly be connected. But, I think my favorite aspect of The Davidson Case was getting to see more of Ann's family. Oh, and as a pet lover I really liked the occupation that Julie C. Gilbert chose for the sister.
I had no real complaints with the audio production and I think that I enjoyed the story much more as an audiobook than I would have in print or as an e-book. All in all, not a bad way to spend three and a half hours.
(I received a copy of this book from the author/publisher. All opinions are entirely my own.) -
The Davidson Case by Julie C Gilbert
Heartfelt Cases book 3.
Julie C Gilbert has another winner on her hands. FBI couple Ann and Patrick are working in separate cities but find that their cases are intertwined.
These books are full of intrigue, action, mystery and faith. Even though the book is short, it weaves good characterization and a good story-line. You do not feel that the book is being rushed to a conclusion. This is definitely a great series.
I was gifted this audiobook, but was not asked for a review. This review is voluntary and my honest opinion. -
Refreshing!
What a refreshing book! Finally an exciting interesting book about a crazy in love married couple who aren't having problems, who love the Lord, Pray, Read their Bible's and do fun and exciting jobs! Way to go Julie!! -
When the files in the veterinarian’s clinic that Joy Davidson works in show the animals to have some extremely rare diseases and the animals to be on experimental drugs, Joy becomes suspicious. Coupled with an overheard conversation, Joy decides to tell her sister Special Agent Julie Ann Duncan of the FBI and ask for help to figure out what’s going on. Before she has an opportunity to look at the copies of the files that Joy copied, Ann Duncan interrupts a home invader intent on killing Joy.
With several cases on the go, Patrick away on a university tour and a special mission from the director, Ann’s hands are full. I liked that the author made it clear that her main characters were not just relying on their own strength to accomplish their tasks but were giving credit to God for the answers to their prayers. Their faith was clearly seen.
I found it very interesting how the twists and turns worked themselves out in the various different cases the Davidson’s had. It’s very difficult to say more than that without spoilers. The quick pace of the story kept things moving along quite nicely.
I think what I liked most about this particular book in the series is that it shows how difficult it can be to have a normal home life when one or both parents are FBI agents (assuming that actual FBI agents work hours like Ann and Patrick Duncan). I think that’s why I liked that they connected regularly by phone and skype while they were apart.
As with all the Heartfelt Cases, The Davidson Case is an excellent novel in the mystery and suspense category and I would highly recommend it. I gave it 5 stars out of 5.
Thank you to the author for providing a copy of this novel in exchange for a fair and honest review. A positive opinion was not required. All thoughts are my own.

Full of suspense, family devotion, & a surprise traitor at the end & it all comes together & is definitely left open for another mystery! By all means, read all of The Heartfelt Cases!

Like the rest of the books, I really liked this one. The Heartfelt cases are short books, but each one is well developed, with lovable characters, and non-stop action. I would love to see this author try a longer crime novel.

Like the earlier books in the series, this book is short and fun to read. I like this author's distinctive voice and the way she weaves a Christian message naturally into the story.
