When Joe Lancaster moves back to town, Kristine literally drops into his arms and into his life—via a rickety ladder and an overly exuberant pit bull mix puppy.

Joe soon acknowledges having feelings for Kristine, but unfortunately, he had dated her big sister Lori when they were in high school, and Lori still has feelings for him.

Can Kristine find her way after a catastrophe event alters her world as she knows it? Will Joe find a place in her heart and life? Or will Lori’s jealousy destroy their budding romance?

I was really surprised by this book! It didn't really strike me as a Christian romance, although there is mention of attending church and praying for sick family members. This was a clean romance story, however, and a very realistic one. I loved all the characters in this book, and how we got to see many of them grow over the course of the story. Kristine was a favorite character, but Gracie was adorable as well. I would definitely recommend this book!

This is an uber-sweet romance, perfect for all ages. I can always count on Rosemarie for a great read. Kristine runs the family bakery and is run ragged by a careless older sister (with a young song she barely has the time to take care of) who only thinks of herself, and a mother who is still coming to terms with the death of her husband (Kristine's father). Kristine loves her life, even though it's hectic and she doesn't have much time to sleep. One day Joe, Lori's ex-boyfriend in high school (Kristine used to have a crush on Joe) waltzes in the bakery and announces he's moved back home. Kristine, or Krissy as he calls her, assumes he's back to woo Lori.

Kristine is oblivious to Joe's overtures. He wants Kristine, not Lori. But Kristine doesn't want to hurt Lori, who may want Joe back. Kristine becomes friends with Joe and soon they bond. She even helps him with his new puppy and takes care of his house while he sees his sick father in the hospital. But then a fire happens at the bakery and Kristine can't help but wonder if someone close to her purposely started it to get the insurance money. Kristine then has to decide if she wants to rebuild the bakery or move on, and away from Joe, the man she has always wanted for herself.

The Icing on the Cake is a feel good romance. Kristine is an incredibly, kind and giving woman. Joe is her perfect mate. Lori and her mother are over the top rude and heartless to Kristine, so much so I wanted to smack them. But they change their stripes in a way that should make readers happy.

If you're in the mood for a fluffy feel good PG rated romance with adorable puppy antics and a true Prince Charming of a guy set in a small town, do check out The Icing on the Cake.

The Icing on the Cake by Rosemarie Naramore
Kristine owns and runs the bakers, it's a family store and her sister hardly ever works there as her mother.
Joe is back in town and he has taken up with Kristine-she was the head cheerleader, he the top football player in high school.
Her sister has a little boy Devon and she tends to him as her sister keeps running off to have long weeks off from work.
Their mother thinks it's best that her sister go out with Joe, marry him so Devon will have a father...
Medical emergency leads Kristine to take care of Joe's dog and now that her business has burned down she had no where to go and something to do.
So many misunderstandings and you wonder if Krissy will just up and leave town, all her troubles behind her...

I picked up this book for the I title, but was also lured in by the beautiful cake on the cover. Since I'm not a big romance reader, I didn't have high expectations for the book, which was a good thing.

While the MC is a nice, friendly and dedicated woman, she also has little to no self-esteem and she lets people - especially her family - walk all over her, which made it really hard to like her or care about what happened to her. The only family member I liked was her nephew, but at least she had a few friends she could count on, even though she disregarded their advice at almost every turn.

The ending was predictable, and I was happy to see that she finally stood her ground regarding the bakery and her family's role in it, but that wasn't enough to make me want to continue the series.

    Icing On The Cake

I really liked this book. It was cute and sweet. I especially liked the Gracie and Maeve part because it portrays that dogs do have feelings and can show love.

  • Barb

Such a sweet book. Family owned bakery. One sister is so sweet and the other is a manipulator.

For the most part I enjoyed reading this one,Kristine was a good lead, she was kind, loyal, selfless, had a good business head and was a fabulous baker.Joe was her modern day prince charming.
Her mom and sister, particularly the sister were horrible to her and leaching off her. However it struck me as odd that only after having one conversation each with Joe,both the sister and the mother seemed to be singing a different tune. The mother woke up from her zombie state and the sister began to see the error of her ways and further, started behaving like a mother to her little son and got a job for the first time in her life. The sister becoming a responsible and sensible person is what is the most hard to believe, she changed colour faster than a chameleon.Joe must have been quite the magician.

Other than that the doggie drama was quite entertaining.

This is a good clean romance and I would like to check out some of the author's other works.

I really enjoyed how true the conflict within this book was. Naramore's book seems to capture the reality of being an adult around your birth family perfectly --- you love them, but they often drive you crazy and it's hard to understand your family's flaws.

On the other hand (and I suspect I was reading too much into the drama), I didn't believe the way the older sister turned her life around. And I felt awful for her kid, who is going to continue to have to live with a mother who forgets to pick him up from school and who puts his needs last. I just can't believe she's that much of a changed person, unless it really is possible to be that spoiled with no underlying cause.

That caveat aside, I'd really *like* to believe you can just put your foot down with family and they'll shape themselves up. So I stand by my five stars.

That was really a delightful read! I enjoyed the relationship between Kristine and Joe and really liked Kristine's character. It was interesting to see how she evolved after her bakery burned down. It was a wake up call for her to start enjoying her life and not just existing for her work. And what a wretched person Lori is! I disliked her for being self-centered and mean.

  • Lynn Smith

Cute romance, Joe moves back to town and run in to Kristine. He has had feeling for her since high school despite having dated her sister.

  • Cici

Short and sweet. Too simple and full of drama.

Enjoyable dysfunctional family drama, and romance. Loved Kristine, the main character, and felt her pain, and her joy. The family bakery sounded just like somewhere I would love to be!!!

I wish there was another book with this family in it.
