In THE ONE MINUTE ENTREPRENEUR, Ken Blanchard (coauthor of the #1 bestselling business classic The One Minute Manager), Don Hutson, CEO of U.S. Learning, and Ethan Willis, CEO of Prosper Learning, tell the inspiring story of one man’s challenges in creating his own business. Through a powerful and engaging narrative, we confront many of the typical problems all entrepreneurs face in starting up their business, from finding new sources of revenue to securing the commitment of their people and the loyalty of their customers. More important, we learn the secrets to becoming a successful entrepreneur, including how to build a firm foundation, how to ensure a steady cash flow, and how to create legendary service. In addition, the book offers invaluable advice, delivered through One Minute Insights, from such entrepreneurs and thinkers as Sheldon Bowles, Peter Drucker, Michael Gerber, and Charlie “Tremendous” Jones.
Today, in the midst of the largest entrepreneurial surge in U.S. history, four out of five small businesses continue to fail. THE ONE MINUTE ENTREPRENEUR offers businesspeople and would-be entrepreneurs a treasure trove of wisdom on how to think, act, and succeed in creating and sustaining a business, no matter what their industry.

Good. Not great. I'm a huge Blanchard fan, but this book didn't live up to what I was hoping for compared to his other works. The lessons themselves are good, but the narrative took the frontrunner spot in this, which is not what I'm looking for when I read his work. The second half of the book took too many assumptions about the reader's goals, and I felt I was fantasizing about entrepreneurship more than I was actually learning it.

A really good read for someone wanting to start a business/already running a business and looking for some advice.
The main takeaway from the book for me was how important it is to have cash flow coming in. If someone is not paying you for your services, you don't have a business but a hobby. However I also learnt that you should not neglect the employees by focussing only on the bottom line. You need to make them feel like partners, empower them and make them soar like eagles and then they will take care of your customers and help you succeed.
As an employee myself, something I can start implementing right away from this book is - don't be a duck who just quacks. Take responsibility, soar like an eagle. It is ducks that make all the mess. This is a great learning, an eye opener.
Last but not the least, don't forget to give back to the society. This does not have to be just money but you can give your time and talent where it can make a difference. -
I've been listening to audio versions of motivational books lately since I often spend two hours driving a day. I picked up One Minute Entrepreneur and for the first third of it, I did feel pretty charged--things I knew but had forgotten about time management, customer service, surrounding yourself with people who inspire you, etc.
I did like the aspect of the book of summarizing other gurus, because this gave me ideas about who to read next.
The simplistic story the insights hang on isn't very realistic, and I was more fired up after the first third than I was at the end, so I recommend picking it up but not necessarily finishing to get that motivational surge you were looking for. -
My dad made me read this book. Well, business talk is not that bad after all. It's not just about making money. There's always something you can learn from a subject different from your field of study. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to start a business or is currently working in the business field.

We doubt you will find any serious student of business who has not read The One Minute Manager. It is the quintessential business book. During my training at a large bank, it was required reading. It has been considered a business classic for years.

The One Minute Entrepreneur: The Secret to Creating and Sustaining a Successful Business by Ken Blanchard, Don Hutson, and Ethan Willis is written in a very similar style.
It is well written and entertaining. Psychologists and leading brain experts agree that the best way to have someone retain what one is being taught is to give the information in story form. It seems to sneak through the gray matter and then stick better when we receive information in story form.
We think you will enjoy The One Minute Entrepreneur and should make it a part of your business library.
Whether you are seeking to start your own business or have been in business for many years, you will learn something when you read your copy of this book.

Although this is an older book, I happened to come across it in my one of my feeds, and I decided since I own and operate my own business it may be worth a listen. This book did not disappoint. There were great insights on running your own business and great examples for each point. Their are so much things that I learned, and I don't want to give it all away, but here are a few things that really resonated with me:
1) Take Care of your Numbers and your numbers will take care of you.
-------Running my own business, I have so many things to do. I keep track of my sales, purchases, hours, etc, run a website, social media, etc. There are tons of data but I rarely analyze it. If I did, I could see what is working and what is not. Where I can save money and where I should spend some more money.
2)Present a speech even one that is given numerous times like it is your first.
-------This sounds simple, but it applies to so many things that I do in my business. I have to sell my services to my clients multiple times a week. Sometimes because you become a broken record, you can lose your intensity and enthusiasm for what you’re trying to sell. And it's so true, if you don't believe in your product who else will. I also have a Youtube channel where I provide information on cameras and video production. I already know the answers to what I'm teaching, but the viewer doesn't. It could be their first time learning about the topic. It could be exciting for them, but if there's no excitement from me, they will probably just go to a different channel.
Anyway, it's worth reading or listening to! -

A book that every person should read before starting a company and maybe read every year for knowing and avoiding the mistakes described in the Jad and Terry’s story. An amazing book about the importance of mentors in our life and the balance between family and career.
In this life and business story you can find valuable advices such as the following: Never let your expences outstrip your revenue. Don’t be a banker for your customers. Timely collection of invoices is crucial.
Jad, the main character of the book had the opportunity to meet and learn from self-development authors and leaders such as Charlie “Tremendous” Jones, Zig Ziglar or dr. Norman Vincent Peale. It’s hard not to stop reading for a moment and write in your notes precious quotes like those below:
“You will be the same person in five years as you are today except for the people you meet and the books you read. If you are serious about success you should develop a library of self-help books and works of literary giants. One you decide you admire the content, the values and the style of the writer, devour every one of that authors works.” ― Charlie “Tremendous” Jones
”You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help other people get what they want.” — Zig Ziglar -
Kenneth H. Blanchard writes a didactic Bildungsroman story about the fictional protagonist Judd who learns how to become a successful entrepreneur (in sales) while listening to the advice of mentors along his path. Each chapter ends with summarized takeaways for readers too. This book is a helpful introduction to entrepreneurship as a career path, for readers who have not read other such books. Also, this book is unique in that it attempts to overview an entire life in entrepreneurship, with an emphasis on personal growth and fulfillment, in a memorable narrative format. Readers seeking concrete or situation-specific advice might not be satisfied with this format. However, readers seeking an inspirational and supportive model for thinking about living an entrepreneurial lifestyle should be satisfied with this accessible and re-readable work.

This book may have cured me from reading the 'business-fiction' genre. This is the third or forth one I've run into and it just doesn't work for me. The stories seemed contrived (which, being fiction, of course it is, but that's not what I mean) and for the time spent I think I could have just had read a 5 minute article making the same points.
I'd much rather hear a book of true case studies to make the same points. It would be more credible.
So.... resolved.... read reviews more thoroughly and discard 'business-fiction. -
This was a great easy read. Though you'd think the book's advice would be dated -- it was written in 2008 by some old white dudes -- the concepts are truly timeless and have aged well. There are so many great nuggets in here about business finance, customer service, employment management, and even work-life balance (though it's not called that). It's written as a fictional story, telling the story of a couple who went into business together. It's the kind of book you read and realize you want a copy to refer to later. Really good stuff, definitely worth your time!

Books like these are a little cheesy and cliché, but for what it lacks in poetry, it makes up for in how to apply common sense as well as ethical management of a business and people. I would recommend this for any entrepreneur looking to start their own company or someone who is interested in improving their customer relations.
Bonus: There's a tip at the beginning of the book that for me, was life-changing. Keep a small notebook and fill it with bite-size quotes and advice. Read a few pages daily and you will find your wisdom and overall intention in life improve greatly. This idea alone was enough for me to benefit from-- the rest was gravy. -
It was a fascinating read. It used a fictitious story to portray the benefits of creating partnerships with your customers, internal and external customers. It also demonstrates the relevance of active and sage mentors. It is a book that can serve as a boon to managers, leaders, and entrepreneurs.

What's the difference between an overly simplified, moralistic novel and a "business parable?" As it turns out, not too much. I am a big Ken Blanchard fan and I can't argue with any of the principles espoused in this book. But, the three discs that made up the business parable were boring and tedious. Oh, and predictable. But most especially cliched. If you get this book, you might just want to skip the story and read the one minute insights.
-
I was expecting this book to be full of interesting advice for those who wish to start a business. I was able to find a few pieces of information but as a whole I found the story to be idealistic and hollow. The mentors would speak to Jud in unrealistic ways by spouting off inspirational quotes. The best information in this book were the one minute insights listed at the end of each chapter. This is a work of business fiction that I do not wish to read again
-
This is a book for people already running a business - it’s mostly about interpersonal relationships - how to treat employees to foster success and to keep balance in your personal life. I can’t see this being terribly useful for most people *looking to launch a business.* If you already run a successful business and want to get your priorities back in check, maybe this is for you!
-
Although the book was designed to advise the reader on the key elements of successful entrepreneurs, the book is shallow and doesn't provide deep information about each of those elements. Nevertheless, the book can be on the reading list of any manager as it is very short and can be a good companion during a travel.

Excellent read from the One Minute Series. The authors talk about building a solid base and growing steadily, and not overextending yourself. They also discuss how important cash flow is to a business. The book uses a fictional company and takes it from startup to the second generation playing significant roles.
-
Nice quote at the beginning: "The gems in life did not come from long diatribes, but rathe short, meaningful insights." This book is full of great gems like this one. Three key elements: cash, customers and people. Very inspiring, insightful and containing lots of wisdom.
-
Good book but it got religious at some points. That's kind of a biased and condescending christian move. Luckily was just in few points.
A part from that, the advices were good. Some were cliche but in general, a good book. -
A must read for aspiring Entrepreneurs
An excellent book filled with lots of advice for aspiring entrepreneurs world wide. You will get wisdom from every paper. It will be great investment of time. A must read! -
Good book in the spirit of the one minute series...
-
Great book good insights and principles.

It's a great book. I like that it's in a story form and that helps keep you interested in the book. It's definitely a five-star book!
