A Critical Essays on R. K. Narayan's the Guide: With an Introduction to Narayan's-novels Reviews
-
R K Narayan is one of my favourites.....
Actually I read the original book...... R K Narayan's writing is so light that sometimes the reader misses the heaviness of its subject matter.
This story is about Raju, a simpleton, scraping through his life with the help of his quick wit, his falling in love (or is it lust?), His ambition to grow beyond himself, his arrogance which comes with success without struggle and his eventual corruption. The story could have ended here, but like true R K Narayan style, the story continues where Raju offers her penitence with ultimate sacrifice..... It's a beautiful tale which has its roots grounded in so much reality that it can happen to anyone of us....
I felt the ending was a bit rushed. Raju's Transformation didn't seep into my mind as the story ended abruptly.... Still this is an unforgettable story.....
