  I loved this book just as much as I loved book one.
  
  I adore the world Singh has built here and I love her writing, characters, and plots.
  
  She is a true talent and I would recommend this series and her Angel series to anyone who loves solid PNR.

  I liked this book just as much as the first one. I loved Faith and I liked Vaughn. I loved the plot. I actually liked Faith's dad and I can't wait to see if the Psy rebel. Vaughn and Faith had a nice connection and I enjoyed reading about Faith letting go of her fear of touch. Overall I am really enjoying this series and I can't wait for book 3.

  Faith is the best F-Psy i.e. of the foreseers. She has been working since she was three years old and she could talk. She almost never leaves her home, she has security 24 hours per day, her meals are planned and if she has to make contact with the Psy who is responsible for her in certain intervals of time. Otherwise everyone is worried. Sometimes she is so lost in her visions of the future that she forgets to eat or drink.
  
  Faith had never left the compound on her own. They'd put her inside twenty-one years ago, telling her that her mind couldn't survive in the outside world, that the visions would come too thick and fast if she lived closely with others. She'd had no reason to disbelieve them and over the years, her home had become her chosen prison, a place she rarely left.
  
  Faith lives in a bubble. But lately she feels that she is going insane. Lately she does not think of the forecasting of business trends. On the contrary, she keeps dreaming of blood, murders and horrific acts.
  
  For that reason, she has decided that she needs help from an outsider and more particularly from Sascha, the Psy who left the Net and mated the Alpha of the DarkRiver pack.
  
  Vaughn is the jaguar and the sentinel of the DarkRiver pack. His Alpha, Lucas, totally trusts him -although Vaughn is more animal than man. When he was a kid, he had to stay in his animal form for a long time in order to survive and for that reason he feels more comfortable being a jaguar.
  
  "Are you sure I'm that logical?”
  "No. But you're not an animal either.”
  He leaned in close until he had her boxed against the wall, his arms on either side of her body. One simple lift and he could have her at his sexual mercy. 'That's where you're wrong, baby." He brushed his lips over her ear. "I'm as animal as they come." Before she could say anything, he pushed off and walked into the kitchen.
  He heard the ragged gasp of her breath a few seconds later. "Are you really?”
  He looked over his shoulder. "What do you think?”
  
  When hot-blooded Vaughn meets emotionless Faith, he realises that Faith is important to him and that Faith cannot be that cold and distant. He needs to connect with her, but her isolated life only allows him to make baby steps to win her heart.
  
  "Red hair." He'd never seen hair that deeply red, that luxuriously silky. The cat had wanted to play with it while the man had wanted to do much, much more intimate things.
  
  Moreover, Faith needs to prove her trustworthiness to the pack and Vaughn needs to help her identify the person that haunts her dreams and her psychological stability.
  
  At the same time the Psy Council needs a replacement for the murderer and sadist Santano Enrique who was eliminated and apparently Faith is a suitable candidate.
  Will she choose Vaughn and an unknown future or her career and a stable future?
  
  I am totally hooked on this series!

  Man, I'm so happy I started reading this series, it's trully awesome. There is a reason Nalini Singh is one of the best (if not the best) PNR writers and this story is definitely one of the reasons why! I simply can't get enough of this fantastic world she created and the plot structure. Each character is super individual and interesting, each plot is original and when reading the book you can really let yourself go and dive into this magical world. Just wow! Enough with talking, I'm on to reading the next book!

  You know the problem with binge reading? It’s that I go through the books too quickly to assimilate them. I also rate and mark them as “RTC” and then when I finally come back to them to review, everything is a big freaking mess in my head and I’m like “wait, did that happen in book 2 or 3”?! The plot is separate - ish BUT there is a continuing storyline throughout.
  
  Now as to this book. It was ok and I would have said it is the weakest in the series, but no, that would be Dorian’s book. (Yes I finished book 5 too by the time I’m writing this) 😅
  
  I’m clearly not in the mood to review this extensively so all I’m gonna say is that a lot of the story/pages could have been cut out because there was endless repetition in the inner monologue of the characters. The amount of times Faith explained the same concerns and issues and would go through the same process of pros and cons only to reach a semi conclusion and then do it all again on the next chapter.. it was too much.
  
  I actually like her with Vaughn but I didn’t love them. This book was just ok but really I’m not complaining because it did get me excited for more. The world is rich, there’s so many characters that I find intriguing and I’m still looking forward to those.
  
  So yeah, onto the next. (I already read the next tbh, and it’s an almost 5 stars, so I as I said it does have hit and misses)

  I enjoyed book one in this series, but I absolutely loved the romance in book two. From the start I really enjoyed Faith's character and how she was pretty much isolated from everyone because of her abilities as an F-Psy. From the moment Vaughn is aware of her existence, he's intrigued and I really loved how much they started to really like each other even though it was completely out of character for them. There's just something about a fated mates romance that just gets me! The only thing about the series, though, is that I really don't care about the conflicts and drama in the psy world. Because of that, I kind of lost some interest near the end of the book. I did love seeing Lucas and Sascha from book one! I'm honestly way more interesting in the changelings and their world over the psy-net and everything happening there. But I'm excited to read the next book!

  I’m actually quite annoyed with myself that I didn’t start this series sooner. I’ve been missing out big time and I’m really regretting it. ⇦ Still true.
  
  Personally I think that the first books cannot be read as standalones as this is a build up to an extraordinary world and that it is important to start from the beginning. You have to be prepared to be in it for the long haul. It makes complex and there are layers upon layers of emotions here.
  
  5 blood for blood, flesh for flesh, life for life Stars.
  
  The Characters & Chemistry.
  
  Faith NightStar is one of the most talented F-Psy out there she has a strong foresight that has only ever been cultivated for business predictions but as with Sascha things are changing with her Psy state.
  
  As there are some dangers of having foresight going clinical insane is one of them, F-Psy’s are kept isolated and there health is monitored for their own good, of course. It doesn’t matter that Faith makes billions. She is strongly tied to the silence that is until she starts seeing things that don’t fit the norm. She looks for the one person that won’t betray her to the council and that is Sascha Duncan.
  
  Vaughn D’Angelo is a jaguar shifter, he is wilder than the others in the leopard pack. His childhood and the loss of his sister had a great impact on his jaguar and him as a human. He is a sentinel for DarkRiver and is fascinated by the house in the woods that houses a single Psy. He can’t leave it alone until he sees a Psy trying to escape and follows Faith.
  
  Once again this is an exceptional read, with a complex world that gives you enough information to be sucked in but without being overwhelmed.
  
  Faith has great character development and she goes from someone not being able to be touched at all to the person that she is meant to be. Vaughn & Faith’s interactions are different to Sacha & Lucas. Although there is great humour and banter between the two it just feels different.
  
  “Sounds like fear to me,” Vaughn said. “I’m Psy I don’t feel fear.” His focus on her was so intense, she felt stripped bare. “Then what would you call it?” “A physiological reaction to unknown stress factors.
  
  Their affection for one another was palpable and it grew even more with each encounter that they had. Vaughn liked to push Faith’s boundaries.
  
  “I wasn’t thinking about stroking you.” She preceded him down the hallway. “I was imagining your fur.” Heat at her back and a rough whisper against her ear. “You let me stroke you and I’ll let you stroke me- I have a thing about your skin”
  
  There are so many twists and turns of the NetMind and the turmoil on the PsyNet and that the Psy are slowly losing control to the repression and the eradication of emotions. The development of the NetMind and how they interacted was amazing, I really liked that scenario and NS fully develops this throughout the other books.
  
  Ms. Singh manages to make the relationship between Faith & Vaughn completely unique. Sometimes authors have a cookie cutter heroine that they stick to but I like the fact that it isn’t the case here.
  
  I loved every single moment of this book and for the fact that I couldn’t sleep last night I got to read more of it. ⇦ So very true.
  
  I have my doubts about Judd Lauren in the next book but I will give him a chance. I also get to see more of Hawke and the SnowDancers. I don#t have any doubts anymore as I love Judd. He will be the next reread.

  4 "love the story" stars!
  
  This review includes my thoughts on the audio version.
  
  This world that Nalini Singh has created is amazing. Absolutely enthralling! I love the way the stories unfold, the trials, the triumphs... it's a brilliant world, overall.
  
  This particular story was a bit slow to start, and I had some problems getting into it. But once things started rolling, I was hooked and couldn't get through it fast enough.
  
  I wasn't as impressed with Angela Dawe's narration this time. She does a great job with the Psy... their lack of emotion, the awe in their voices as they begin to see the world the way it really is... she's great with them, but I'm having problems with her portrayal of the Changelings.
  
  I highly recommend this series to fans who like steam with their Sci-Fi and Urban Fantasy.

  I don't know what is it with me and movies lol but this one reminded me of Minority Report :) Faith is a Psy who can see the future, she is isolated from everyone, even her own kind, her life centered only on the visions she's having. One day she learns that her sister has been murdered, and in the same way she's been dreaming about, so being affraid of the visions, she goes in search for Sascha, the only Psy who could give her advice without being biased. Vaughn, a lone jaguar, is the first she meets, and he tests her control as well as her hold on emotions.
  
  They were just lovely together
  Faith seemed so fragile in the beginning, it was really tough to read about the was she was isolated, from every type of affection, even normal touch, and she took Vaughn's closeness very hard, she fell into shock several times lol but he wouldn't stop, and I loved that about him, he knew she was strong on the inside, and forced her to accept it. Their romance was slow and sweet, he took a lot of time with her, didn't make demands on her when she had to choose between Psy and changeling, and I love him for it, even though he's a posessive male, he didn't force the decision on her <3

  The second book in the series centers around the F-Psy, - highly sought after ability to predict the future - Faith ‘Red’ NightStar (24) and Changeling jaguar Vaughn D'Angelo. We met Vaughn in book one were we see him as one of Lucas Hunter's sentinels and is Lucas’s closest friend. Vaughn was far more animal than most predatory changelings, had had to become so to survive. Faith of the PsyClan NightStar was considered the most powerful F-Psy of her generation; she’d already made more money than most Psy did in their entire lifetimes. But then again, she’d been working since she was three years old. Faith believes she's going mad and decides she needs Sascha Duncan. Vaughn is immediately fascinated by the red head and quickly decides he isn't going to let her walk away.
  

  Faith NightStar of the PsyClan NightStar was aware she was considered the most powerful F-Psy of her generation. At only twenty-four years of age, she’d already made more money than most Psy did in their entire lifetimes. But then again, she’d been working since she was three years old, since she’d found her voice. It had taken her longer than most children, but that was to be expected—she was a cardinal F-Psy of extraordinary ability.
  It would have surprised no one if she’d never spoken.
  That was why the F-Psy belonged to PsyClans, which took care of everything the foreseers couldn’t, from investing their millions to checking their medical status to ensuring they didn’t starve. The F-Psy weren’t very good at practical things like that. They forgot. Even after more than a century of forecasting business trends rather than murders and accidents, disasters and wars, they forgot.

  
  Overall, I was bored. It wasn't long into the book I started skimming. The book gave of the feeling of insta-love as the timeline was just under few weeks; two are most. I also didn't connect with either character, they let me quite indifferent and uncaring. Worst of all, it made me decide I didn't want to continue the rest of the series. The book felt like a repeat with the same female character, just different name. However, I didn't like Faith all that much for some reason, she was just there. Taking up space and all that. Vaughn couldn't compare to Lucas at all, and I couldn't find it in me to feel anything more than 'he's alright'.
  

  Lucas stroked his fingers over his mate’s cheek and Vaughn wanted to do the same with Faith. Delicate, icy, she was hardly the type of woman who usually attracted him, but there was something fascinating about her, something compelling.
  “How old were you when they started training you?” he asked his Psy. He’d found her first. Therefore, she was his. It was the cat talking and Vaughn didn’t feel like arguing.

  This series is so much more than I've ever expected.
  
  The hero, Vaughn, was pushy and demanding, walking over the heroine's boundaries most of the time and knowing what the heroine needed and how far she could be pushed, which royally pissed some people off. And normally, that stuff would make me furious too. Yet in the world of shifters who acted on their instincts and listened to their mating bonds, his actions were pretty much normal so I rolled with it; plus he actually stopped himself from going further multiple times and showed decency where some might have walked past the line.
  The heroine, Faith, and her struggle with the Silence was maybe frustrating at times but I still liked her very much and her way of dealing with her abilities was well done.
  
  Some moments weren't perfect, some parts could have been edited a bit better... Yet all in all, I'm loving this crazy world and the characters and while I enjoyed the previous and the next books way better, it was still a great addition to the series.

  Visions of Heat is the second book in Nalini Singh's Psy/Changeling series and yet another great installment. Like I said in my review of Slave to Sensation, I did not expect to like this series. As a matter of fact, I figured that I would read the first one and have no desire to continue the series. Boy was I ever wrong. I'm sitting here at 1:52 A.M. wishing that I had the third book so I could start it right away tomorrow. Alas, it is not to be. But damn, I really need to get out and buy these books!
  
  I loved the way that Singh continued to built the world she created for this series. And I have to say, I don't even really feel like it's in the future. You know how with some books you can tell from the technology, people, whatever that you are in a completely different time? Not so with this series. It actually came as a bit of a shock when I was reading Slave to Sensation reviews and someone mentioned that the series takes place in 2079. I'd say that's a sign of great writing when something so out of the ordinary can feel so natural.
  
  Politics, particularly those of the Psy, played a major role in Visions of Heat, much more than it did in Slave to Sensation, and while I generally do not enjoy reading anything that is strongly based in politics, I found that I actually really enjoyed those aspects. I think, though, that's because it was so critical, so pivotal in Faith's life that it would have felt...empty if those political aspects had been absent, whether they be entirely absent or just there to a lesser extent. I also liked the political aspect because it made Faith's struggle and decision that much more realistic to me because, while I was frustrated that she didn't immediately decide to go off with Vaughn, I could understand: How do you choose to leave everything you've ever known behind, even if it's not what it's always appeared to be, for a world, life, and culture that you've never even experienced? Not an easy choice and one that I liked to see Faith struggle with because, while I like to think it would be easy to follow the love of my life into the unknown, I know that is entirely unrealistic.
  
  Speaking of Faith and Vaughn, I continued to like the characters. Obviously most of them are the same people from the previous book, but I liked getting to see more of them. Sascha and Lucas had a clear presence in the book but I loved the glimpses into Dorian and Clay, and I even liked seeing a little more of Judd, even though I'm not quite sure just how I feel about him yet. And when it came to the main characters? I loved them too. Faith was a brilliant character and I enjoyed reading about her struggles to find her sister's murderer, to find herself and realize how strong she really is. All in all, though, I still preferred Sascha, but Faith was an intriguing character to follow throughout the book. Now, Vaughn, I definitely love him more than Lucas. Dorian still remains my favorite male thus far, but I couldn't help but utterly adore Vaughn. He's much more animalistic than the other men so he always had more of a wild, feral edge to him than anyone else and that appealed to me more than Lucas ever did. Vaughn was exceptionally possessive and protective and, really, how could you not love the guy? Like with the world-building, I love how Singh continues to make me love her characters by showing me different facets of them all the time.
  
  I have to say again how glad I am that I jumped on this bandwagon. I can't believe I've been so resistant for so long. This series is quickly becoming a favorite and I feel the distinct urge to run out to the store and buy all the books. Too bad it's 2:00 in the morning and I don't have the money for it. Oh well, a girl can dream, right?

  I am happy that I enjoyed the second book in the Psy-Changeling series; I was having some doubts after the first one where it took some time to really get into the story. I was in love in love from the moment the very sexy Sentinel named Vaughn mentioned his first words in the book.
  
  Quick rundown, the Psy are a mind race, they feel no emotion and they strive to be perfect or should I say they claim to be perfect. They say cus without feelings there would be no murders, no jealousy and all those other human emotions that causes destruction (Pfffft). The Changelings are shifters, who are all about emotions and getting physical, so lets say these very two races are about to get up close and personal.
  
  Faith Nightstar is the money-maker Psy, her visions are worth millions if not billions and they are milking her dry. She also has been having crazy violent dreams, and feels she is slowly going insane. What the Psy race does to defects is to rehabilitate or casually get rid of them. A little adventure to find a Psy woman who left the race behind leads her into Changeling territory, and the arms of a dangerous sentinel.
  
  Vaughn aka (I am so sexy I will make your panty drop) is an angry and dark soul. He is deadly and stealth like the Jaguar that he is, and he is dangerous. He lives to protect his alpha and his mate that is until his own mate makes an appearance in the form of Faith (frigid) Nightstar. Vaughn will have to fight to get his woman, and convince her he has the stuff to keep her safe.
  
  Well the story pretty much becomes the Faith and Vaughn show, with a murder mystery as the side dish. I am just in love with the Changelings and there touch privileges. Vaughn (sigh) is more animal than man, and that my friends is winner in my book. While reading I was thinking how fast I could lose my clothes if he snuck through my sun roof (really I don’t have a sun roof but am willing to cut a hole in my ceiling). I would go from 0 to 60 in like a second just like a Jaguar (hear me roar/growl).
  
  Nalini is building a pretty intriguing world and I am looking forward to all the other Psy-Changeling adventures. Also excited for the Psy man, because guess what dude you can’t hide feelings when you sporting a boner.
  
  Vaughn seriously gimme my panties back.

  2.5 meh stars + 0.5 stars for the world building.
  
  What went wrong here? I don't really know. It just feels like I've just read a poor version of Slave to Sensation, with more romance and less suspense/action.
  
  The world building is still great but I expected Singh to dig a bit deeper here. Granted, the NetMind/DarkMind thing is pretty cool and we get to learn a bit more about the Silence Protocol but that's as far as Singh goes in terms of world expansion which is a bit disappointing. There is talk of revolution within the Psy-Net though so I still have high hopes for the rest of the series.
  
  I have to admit that I was a bit taken aback when I first started reading this book because I thought it was going to be about Sascha & Lucas. I never expected it to be about different characters. Is this the way PNR series work? Once I got past the initial surprise I was happy to read about new characters but the problem here is that they aren't as strong as in the previous book. Worse, I had a hard time connecting with them. Vaughn is too much the typical dark/brooding/loner alpha and Faith is pretty uninteresting. Wait, let's not be too harsh here, there is something interesting about Faith: her father. I'm really curious about him and I can't wait to see what Singh does with his characters.
  
  The sexual chemistry between Vaughn & Faith isn't that great and the sex scenes themselves were disappointing and not as well written as the ones between Sascha & Lucas. So no, Visions of Heat didn't have me throwing my underwear across the room. Too bad, I was more than willing to.
  
  Although this was a disappointing read I still want to continue with this series. I love the world building too much to give up now and I'm told Caressed by Iced is one of the best instalments in the series. I didn't really like what I saw of Judd here but I can't wait to see how this particular iceman thaws *rubs hands in anticipation*

  4 1/2 Stars for the Voracious Vaughn! Unbelievably sensual, passionate, irrefutable character chemistry, yet the story isn’t overloaded with descriptive sexual details. The writing is near orgasmic and Nalini Singh knows how to make her readers feel as much as the characters in her books! I found myself reading with my mouth slightly parted, and I might have even been panting!! How embarrassing!!
  
  Not quite as captivating as the first book, bogged down in a little too much detail, where the overall plot and villain where concerned. I’m not sure if I grasped all that happened. I had the audio and eBook at my disposal, and found myself bouncing between the two to get a handle on the storyline, at times I felt I needed the written word to clarify what I was hearing and vice versa, it was somewhat complicated. However…this is a series that is definitely worth sticking with. There are just too many intriguing characters that need my attention. Nalini Singh has drawn me into a world where passion rules, and there are those willing to risk everything for the chance to feel!!

  The perfect amount of Heat...
  
  Visions of Heat is a very well written story and Nalini Singh manages to bring the Psy-Changeling world and characters to life for me. The storyline kept me interested from start to finish and I never found myself bored or struggling to go on. I was drawn to the Changelings as being the right and good side, while also finding parts of the Psy appealing even though they are portrayed as the wrong side. I liked the touchy-feely part of being pack but would hate being touched all the time. I liked the idea of not being controlled by my emotions but hate the idea of not feeling...anything.
  
  I loved Faith and Vaughn together and enjoyed their journey to happiness. It was appealing that their love story was not rushed and it wasn't 'insta-mating-bond' like a lot of other similar stories. I liked that while Vaughn was intensely attracted to Faith, he was so patient with her and knew that her sensitivity to touch was not something to be pushed. The Heat level was perfect. There was enough Heat to get my heart pumping without being OTT or too much. It was sexy, sensual and passionate.
  
  This series is quickly becoming a favourite and I will definitely be going on to see the Council crumble and the Changelings take over the world...

  Visions of Heat is a fantastic second book that goes further into the escalating conflict between the emotionless, cold, psychically powerful Psy race and the Changelings (shifters that are both human and animal) in the year 2079.
  
  Faith Nightstar is a powerful F-Psy, a foreseer, who has been completely isolated due to the dangerous power and strain of her potent psychic ability and used for the monetary gain of the Psy-Council. But lately she’s been tormented by disturbing and violent visions of the future, and escapes to seek help from Sascha, a Psy defector, and the DarkRiver leopard pack. Changeling Vaughn D’Angelo is the sole jaguar among the leopard pack and the most volatile. Faith stirs the inner cravings and hungers of his beast that he’s long denied, and Vaughn becomes determined to shatter her fragile wall of Silence and claim her as his mate. Their relationship threatens to further damage the tentative co-existence between the Psy-Changelings.
  
  Vaughn is a dominant, forceful, and arrogant hero who’s almost more jaguar than man, which is sexy-as-all-get-out to me, and his passion and love for Faith is strong. Their romance is sweet and sexy, and there are some steamy hot love scenes. It’s a great second installment in an original, amazing paranormal series that truly stands out in the genre. 5 stars!

  *sigh* I LOVED this book even more the second time around!!
  
  While my re-read of Slave to Sensation had me dreaming (again!) about being enslaved by the delicious Lucas Hunter *grins*... it more seriously had me contemplating the concept of a “society without emotion” that is the Psy. In my re-read of Visions of Heat, the theme that became the focus of my reflections - which was also a prevalent theme in the first book - was that of having the strength to free one’s “self” from the "prison" imposed by others, and of seeing things we were blind to before.
  
  Faith Nighstar, of the PsyClan NightStar, is a powerful “F-Psy” – a cardinal Psy with the ability of foresight. Since the age of 3, she has been isolated from society and trained to give business forecasts, worth billions. She has also been told that the F-Psy are particularly susceptible to madness. That for her own protection, she must be constantly monitored and undergo medical tests, regularly.
  
  Now, at the age of 24, Faith is starting to have some very dark dreams, malevolent visions of blood and murder. She thinks - not “fears”, as the Psy are not supposed to fear - that insanity is looming. In an effort to get more information, without alerting her keepers of her degeneration, Faith decides to seek out Sascha Duncan, a renegade Psy who is now part of the DarkRiver changeling leopard pack.
  
  Vaughn D’Angelo, a jaguar adopted into the leopard pack through a tragic event, whose beast prowls closer to the surface than other changelings, is a sentinel of DarkRiver. He has recently become very curious about an isolated compound, in which appears to live a Psy. The Psy usually choose to live in skyscrapers.
  
  When Faith escapes the compound to seek out Sascha, it is Vaughn who finds her in DarkRiver territory. Vaughn’s cat side is immediately instinctually drawn to Faith and can’t stop teasing and bombarding her senses with his touch. This puzzles Vaughn, the man, as he does not believe in the concept of “mating”, not wanting to ever need anyone or have someone need him.
  
  I was drawn into Vaughn and Faith’s story: Vaughn, as he works though his conflicted feelings towards Faith; as he sees her as not just a cold Psy, but a fascinating woman he wants to tease and protect, and as he realises that while he has "mated" with Faith, she can refuse that mating bond. Faith, as she tries to buckle “Silence”, to find pleasure in Vaughn’s touch, and to allow herself to feel. I felt for the losses they had both suffered – Vaughn’s story, particularly, broke my heart. I admired Faith as she fought not to fall into the madness of her dark visions; as she started to “see” that the things she has been told all her life were lies. How does Faith break through the walls that isolate and imprison her, when they are so much a part of “her”?
  
  I appreciated the intriguing political aspects that Nalini Singh included in this book - and also in the first - through the machinations of the Psy Council.
  
  Through my re-read, I found the initially bewildering, complex concept of the PsyNet easier to process.
  
  There were a few loose threads at the end of this book, which I’m expecting will be answered later in the series…at least, I hope so!
  
  P.S. I DO NOT like the cover of this book and the guy looks nothing like how Vaughn is described! In fact, a lot of the covers in this amazing series by Nalini Singh just don't do it justice, in my humble opinion.

  To be honest, this, Visions of Heat, has always been one of my least favorite books in this series - I'm not sure how much that's actually saying, considering most of these books rate beyond my scale of awesomeness, but there are issues (and I look over my previous notes after this re-read, it didn't always hit me as strongly as it did this time, but the issues were always there for me).
  
  My number one biggest issue? Vaughn. Especially in the first 35% or so of the book. He's a pushy asshole. There's a quote in the book that I think encapsulates my problems with him, especially in the beginning (and I'll get into why it's not as bad later in the book).
  

  Careful, Faith. He won't stop when you tell him to.

  
  Now, this is one sentence out of the entire book, but it's where my problem lies. Some background: Faith, a cardinal F-Psy ('F' for Foresight) has been isolated from the time she was three, THREE, years old. She's had close to no physical contact (other than the occasional medical exam or treatment), and she's been conditioned to believe that interacting with people, or touch, could set her off into a cascade that will leave her insane. Clinically insane. Showing more strength than even she knows she has, she walks into DarkRiver territory, looking for Sascha and help, and runs into Vaughn.
  
  He doesn't know her. He doesn't trust her. I get all that. What I don't get, and what I'm not okay with, is him using his body - his sexuality - to make her uncomfortable. I'm not okay with the fact that he uses touch, and his judgment on what's enough or too much, against her express wishes. No Means No. Also, Silence Does Not Mean Yes. Only Yes Means Yes. These are not catch-phrases. They need to become reality and truth and the only acceptable idea.
  
  Vaughn argues that he's trying to make her stronger, to "sensitize" her to the world. It doesn't matter that he actually is making her stronger. It doesn't matter that Silence is wrong. It doesn't matter that she'll be better off once she's able to accept feelings and emotions. Within a couple of hours of meeting her, HE is making decisions that could affect, not only her welfare, but her physical and mental health. What matters is that though she finally does concede to *some* touch, he still doesn't stop when she says enough.
  
  It does matter that when he starts to lose control, and become more cat, that she puts aside her own welfare and concern to ensure that he's taken care of. To touch him as he needs. Never mind her needs. Never mind the fact that the pain is so intense - and she never lets him see it - that it makes her lose consciousness.
  
  None of this is okay. I know that in my thoughts on this book before, I've articulated that it's not one of my favorites, that it's a weaker entry in the series, and that Vaughn's pushiness irritated me. It went beyond that this time. I get what is trying to be done, and on one level I understand. The Changelings are not human, they never will be. There are different rules at play in this world. But what I've come to realize this read through is that no matter the world, Yes needs to be the only thing that means Yes.
  
  Now, that I've gotten that rant out of the way, I'll say that when Faith gets her feet under her it levels out the power disparity that permeates the first third of the novel. She doesn't let him push her around, though - it could be argued that he's getting his way as she's becoming more sensitized to touch and emotion, but I'm not sure I want to go there right now. Faith becomes more than powerful and strong enough to take on Vaughn. But this book suffers because he's too domineering in the beginning and she's made extremely helpless. In the later half of the book, I really begin to love Faith.
  
  The story itself is intriguing. There's more revealed about the Psy machinations and reality in particular. But it's the world that really continues to build in this series. We learn more about the Psy, expanding into other groups and affiliations. We learn more about how they respond, how they think, and you begin to see just how huge the problem is that faces everyone in this world. Trust me when I say it's the tip of the iceberg.
  
  And trust me when I say that the next book, Caressed by Ice, is absolutely freaking amazing - with none of the problems that this one suffers. In fact, I can't think of another book in the series that suffers from the issues I laid out here.
  
  This continues to be a favorite series, and a comfort read for me, but I couldn't ignore the problematic issues in this particular novel anymore.

  I'll admit the first time I read this book I was pretty-damn disappointed. It didn't nearly live up to the love I had for the first book. Vaughn seemed to bond too easily, and the storyline seemed nearly identical to the first book.
  
  I've re-read it many times since then. And I have to say that, while it isn't (IMO) as good as Slave to Sensation; it's not as disappointing as I'd originally thought. My expectations were so, so, SO high after StS that nearly anything would have been a let down.
  
  The world is still fantastically awesome, and the characters feel real. I mean, obviously they're not real, but they're true to their characters. The romance was sweet (if a lot like the one in StS), and I grew to appreciate Faith a lot more. Vaughn irritated me at times with his pushiness, but overall I still really enjoy this book.
  
  Of course, for me, being surrounded by a great first book and the AWESOME third book didn't do Visions of Heat any favors. Because Caressed by Ice is up next and boy, oh boy, is it fantastic.

  Faith NightStar is a cardinal F-Psy, one of the most powerful F-Psy of her generation. She is worth billions and her accuracy in business predictions are unrivalled. However she is suddenly seeing dark, sadistic visions. Visions that she has no control over and can’t escape. She can’t trust anyone from her race to help her, and sets out to get answers from the one person she knows won’t lie to her – Sascha Duncan, the renegade Psy, who is mated to the alpha of the DarkRiver changeling pack.

  Jaguar Vaughn D’Angelo is part of the DarkRiver pack. His cat is instantly attracted to Faith, but his human side is wary and distrustful of the Psy. However, he can’t help touching Faith, craving her, but Faith is unused to touch, her mind unable to process sensations. And so Vaughn starts the slow seduction of Faith, hoping that she will be able to cope with his demands and that he will not lose her.

  Lucas gripped his shoulder. “She’ll tear you up worse than any animal, make you feel as if your heart’s being cut into a thousand pieces, but she’ll also heal you in a way no one else will ever be able to do.”

  Faith is afraid of letting go of what she knows and trusting the unknown, but how can she ignore the feelings which Vaughn ignites in her.

  Because she knew that if she succeeded in leashing the dark side of her ability and returned to her normal existence, she’d live the rest of her life without a jaguar who liked to tease in the most sensual of ways, who pushed her to face her fears, and who, quite simply, made her feel alive.

  The romance between Faith and Vaughn was wonderful. It was great reading how Vaughn slowly sensitised Faith to touch, breaking down the shields created by Silence. Vaughn is a very demanding changeling, and it was fun reading Faith respond to these demands, not letting Vaughn get away with his bossiness or hide his sensual side from her, thinking that she won’t be able to handle it.

  He was more openly possessive and dominant than the other males she’d seen with their mates. But that was fine with her. She could bear being thought of as utterly his.

  The plot continues in strength, delving deeper into the Psy Council, their corruption, and the evilness created by Silence. More intricate characters are introduced, characters which will be playing key roles in this series. More questions are raised: what is happening with the NetMind and DarkMind, and what effect will the DarkMind have on the PsyNet? Mentions of a rebellion within and without the PsyNet were made, and Faith’s protection from the Council comes from an unexpected ally, one who will be very important in the fight for the survival of the Psy race.

  “Don’t you want to break free?”
  It seemed as if he wouldn’t answer, but then he said, “If all the strong ones leave, then the Council will be completely without limits. I am precisely where I need to be.”

  This series is amazing and is a must read for all PNR lovers. Make sure you read it in order to get the full effect of this world and it’s characters.

  Because Judd Lauren is my all-time favourite character, the parts mentioning him made me so very happy and I’m so glad that his book is next!

  I continue on with my journey to reread this whole series, and I can already tell you that my opinions and rating will vary much more than when I read them originally years ago… this book being the perfect example :) because after absolutely loving “Slave to sensation”, the first book all about my favourite couple, Sascha and Lucas, this one… was a bit of a disappointment… I was going back and forth about how to rate this particular story and ultimately I landed on 3,5 stars… it may seem harsh, but make no mistakes, I still quite enjoyed this book… and I absolutely love this world and Nalini’s writing style… but Vaughn, the hero in this one… *sighs* I adore changelings in this world, they are tactile, family oriented and just such a fun to read about… but they can be possessive and confident, often to the point of being arrogant :) and there’s a fine line of how much of that behaviour I can accept… because certain things that came out as playful and teasing when it was Lucas in that first book came out just… too much, when it came to Vaughn… and I do understand that he’s a bit different, and much more intense, even for a changeling, but he was just… too arrogant, too pushy, he wanted way too much way too soon from Faith, basically ignoring what she said… and it kept irritating me to no end… the relationship felt a bit underdeveloped, but I do have to praise Nalini and her mastermind… because she had to have known how the first big story arch would end when she started writing the first book… the foreshadowing and little snippets she put here and there… when you know where it’s all going you can see the bits of foundations she’s woven throughout all of her previous books… and that aspect of the story is amazing ;) looking forward to reading the rest of the series, even though this one wasn’t to my liking :)

  Sadly this was disappointing, the first book was way better, the awesomeness of that one was what ruined this for me.
  
  The protagonist were one dimensional and wasn't well developed and their story was bland. I so did not enjoy it.
  
  The only good thing is the presence of the characters from book one in this. The romance and the writing wasn't too bad either.
