Devil's Charm (Chaos Bleeds MC #1) Reviews

I love MC stories! Not sure if it's because of the hot alpha's, the brotherhood, the domination, the tats or the combination! This read just didn't hit the high stars for me. I couldn't connect with the characters & I felt their development was poor. The story felt rushed in some areas & in my opinion never really finished. Again just my opinion.
-
Not my cup of tea...
This was just... blah... I don't know...
Just to be clear, I love MC romance, but this one was just boring, without any depth to it.
I couldn't connect to the characters and the story felt really rushed.
Heroine Lexie is 24 years younger than the bad ass biker guy and I have to say, I had an issue with that. She was 21 for god's sake! Man could be her father. That is NOT hot... like, at all.
She was childish and immature and that bugged the heck out of me.
Devil is simply a douche and a bully. Asshole with a capital A! I hated him.
I wanted to slap him silly most of the time.
This was a waste of my time. -
I'm not sure what to make of all the glowing reviews for Devil's Charm. It's so oddly written and the characters not all that likeable. This is my first Sam Crescent book, so I am not familiar with her other MC series. This is a stand alone but I felt "out of the loop" at times when Devil references things that clearly happened in other books. The poor writing put me off checking those books out though.
Some examples with what I mean about the stilted writing and poor editing:
"I don’t know. I’ve not heard from her since she dropped him off. I’ve not got a clue what to do.”
Seriously, who talks like this?
"Life was looking interesting. The biggest problem he had was what to do with Lexie. The bitch was getting under his skin, and they’d not known each other all that fucking long."
And
"Most of his men were stood out in the garden nursing beers as he cooked food at the barbeque. "
And
“You’re not who I thought you was.”
And
"Lexie took another step and screamed as a bullet bounced off the floor near where she was stood."
Then there are some really troubling problems with this so-called "erotic biker romance".
For a romance, this was pretty depressing because:
"There was nowhere else for her to go. At twenty-one years old she had experienced two orgasms in her whole life, and both had been at Devil’s hands."
Yup, totally solid foundation for a relationship.
Then of course there's the lovely reproductive abuse/coercion by Devil.
"Do you want me to go to the pharmacy today?”
“Why?”
“For the morning after pill?”
“No, you don’t need it. We’ll deal with whatever happens.”
“I don’t want kids yet,” she said, blowing on her coffee.
He knew she was being reasonable while he didn’t feel the slightest bit reasonable. “I’ll use rubbers, but you’re not taking the morning after pill. That’s final.”
That's final, eh? Nice. Is that supposed to be romantic? He already has one kid he's had to track down, but hey let's make another baby with the woman you just met who's 24 years younger than you. Seems reasonable.
There's more where that came from:
"He hadn’t bothered buying any rubbers, and the thought of Lexie getting the morning after pill riled him.
There was no way she would be killing his baby. He wouldn’t have it. Devil refused to let her even think about it."
Yeah, while we're at it is it too much for our romance heroes to understand the difference between the morning after pill and an abortion? Okay? Thanks. And if it's not too much, how about a heroine who takes charge of her own reproductive health and walks her ass to a damn pharmacy.
Oh, and speaking of abuse:
"I understand, and I won’t ask you again.” She rested her head on his back, knowing she needed to keep quiet or he was going to give her a headache with his ranting."
I love a heroine who's afraid to speak her mind lest her hero start verbally abusing her. Sexy!
I definitely have no problem with "edgy erotica" or "dark erotica" if they are labeled as such. I get that MC romances are going to be a little bit grittier and coarser. But I think basic respect of the heroine by the hero should be a minimum requirement in a romance. Also think minimal editing should be a requirement for a book that costs $5.
I was between one and two stars because I finished the book, although that might have been because I wanted to see just how bad it got. Lexie is a little too stupid to live at times and she's a shadow of a character. Even though Devil is mostly a douchenugget he has his good points. He rescues Judi, protects her and cares for her as well as caring for his crew. He also comes full circle from thinking he's not capable of loving anyone to admitting he loves Lexie.
Ultimately, I just can't give a book that romanticizes the idea that a man forcing a woman to have children she doesn't want more than one star.
Despite my better judgment the Epilogue with Ripper and Judi looks promising. -
I have read all of The Skulls series and liked them all. I enjoyed reading Devil’s Charm and think the possibility of many good books in this series is there. Devil was a harsh, arrogant alpha a*hole to start with. Drop dead gorgeous with a body to die for even at the ripe old age of 45. I’ve always been a sucker for strong, possessive men who can be arrogant but sweet and loving when it comes to the ones they love. I didn’t have a problem with the 14 year age difference between them because the h has had to grow up quicker due to her background. I liked the grittiness of the MC back story and the horn dog boys in the club and will look forward to seeing them fall when they find that special woman.
Now the things that I think would have made it a better read for me. The book seemed rushed. I would have liked more detail and buildup between Devil and Lexie. It seemed like it jumped from one scene to another without really understanding what the backstory was. I really enjoyed Tiny – The Skulls and went back to check the page count (181). Devil has 131 pages but I really feel it was rushed and I needed more details to draw me in more.
The author followed a usual theme of older H/younger h and a full bodied h. She worked it well but it’s getting to be a standard theme in the biker series. I would love it if the author would write a story with an older H, like Devil, and a woman in her 30’s that have really faced bad experiences. And we all know women in their 30’s and above are dealing with those weight problems more so than the younger women I’d like to see a relationship like that bloom and snare me into full connection with the characters. I know that age range might not appeal to the younger crowd out there, but let’s face it, a big portion of the biker/MC romance readers are mature women in their 30’s and above who like to live vicariously through the romances they read.
I will definitely read the next in this series and rate this one 3 stars. Good story but, to repeat would love to have had this story fleshed out more. -
2.5 stars
Devil's Charm is book 1 in the Chaos Bleeds MC series and it was an ok read for me. While I love age-gap books unfortunately I wasn't thrilled with either Devil or Lexie. I felt the story was rushed and too short. Basically, Devil is looking for the woman he hooks up with on the road who got pregnant and stole money from him. Lexi's sister shows up one day and hands her a new baby claiming she can't raise him and leaves, obviously it's super easy to figure out who the daddy is. With no idea what to do after she loses her job Lexi gets a new one at a strip club that just happens to belong to Devil and his boys. Overall, Devil is a bulldozer and Lexi is a doormat. Now with that said the Epilogue definitely has me excited for Ripper and Judi's book.
***I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own*** -
Reread: 8/7/18
Three years later and growly, bada** Devil of the Chaos Bleeds MC in Piston County is still my all-time favorite MC Prez! Now I'm ready to read Devil's Promise!!!!!!!!!!!!
March 1, 2015
Devil was the most memorable leader and alpha MC president! -
so, she falls in love with a guy who slept with her sister? Is there extenuating circumstances?
-
Chaos Bleeds is an exciting new series from Sam Crescent. It may sound like a rock group; but it is most definitely not! This series is a spin-off series from The Skulls series. Chaos Bleeds is the name of a hard core Motorcycle Club. If you have been following the Skulls series, then you know that their club is filled with some hot alpha males like: Tiny, Murphy, and Nash...just to name a few. With this new series we are following the leader of Chaos Bleeds, and his name is Devil. I will start off by saying that Devil is very hard core alpha, and not everyone is going to like him. He tends to be brutal, and he takes what he wants and makes no excuses. This guy is rough, tough, and majorly possessive; but underneath that gritty exterior is a man who seeks justice for the innocent and truly does have a good heart. {but just don't tell anyone; because he really doesn't want people to know this!} I am enjoying the MC series that Sam Crescent is creating. I have fallen in love with the charactors, and I didn't think the Skulls could be topped; but I was wrong..I devoured Devil's book, and I can't wait for Ripper's to come out!
Devil's Charm starts off with two sisters. One who is a drug addict slut. Kayla got herself knocked up with Devil's son; but doesn't want the responsibility of raising a kid, so she drops the baby off on her sister Lexie's doorstep. Lexie is a sweetheart and in no way can say no to Kayla so she now has a kid she needs to figure out how to support. To try and find a job has been a nightmare for her; but she ends up stripping for a living so that she can support the little baby that she has grown to love and protect. What Lexie never predicted was the leader from a motorcycle club coming to demand his son back. When Devil and Lexie get together sparks fly, and Devil decides that he needs to own Lexie. He will not take no for an answer. When these two give in to their desires, they set a blaze going like I have rarely read. WHEW! These two are on fire together, and Devil knows what he wants and makes absolutely no apologies for his desires. His desire to own Lexie shocks Devil; but he runs with it and takes her whenever he wants her. Will Lexie continue to accept Devil's possessive attitude? Do these two have a future together? And what about Kayla? Will she come back for her son, or will she continue to be a dead beat mom?
My one and only concern with this book was the fact that the instant attraction and fast pace that Devil and Lexie fall for each other was a little bit unrealistic. I stopped myself though from judging that too harshly as it is a book and I love a good story! Bottom line is that I love reading about hard core Alpha guys most of the time, and I especially love it when they are super possessive. So I just sat back and enjoyed the book, and tried not to judge too harshly!! I mainly bring it up because I know some readers that do not like the whole "insta love" scenario.. I am hooked though on both Sam Crescent's MC series, and she has earned a fan of her work in me. Next up is Ripper, and I can't wait to see what is in store for him!! -
Yeah!!! this is Devil's book ,a spinoff series from this author's MC books ,The Skulls.Just the name alone evokes the dark and dangerous .
I wanted to read his story when he was introduced in The Skulls,a leader equal,if not more so than Tiny. And is he, why yes,yes he is!.
Devil has come to town to search for the sister of the woman who had his son,the woman named Lexi.
Lexi ,in the mean time has been working as a stripper to support herself and the baby who is her nephew, but she loves as her own.
They meet at the stripper club and Devil is instantly in lust with her. They share a passionate kiss, then Devil is called away.
They meet later on that night when he breaks into her apartment ,he now realizes that the Lexi from the club is the Lexi that he has been searching for.
The story moves swiftly from here and the two hooking up and moving in together. There were lots of sexy times for this couple.Devil was a real ass to Lexi at one point of the story where he had demeaned and goaded her.He needed to do some major groveling after that.
Along the way,Judi,a young 17 year old prostitute moves in with them after Devil beats her pimp to a bloody mess after he and his crew witness her abuse by him. There was a little drama when Judi gets kidnapped by her former pimp, but Devil soon finds them and the pimp is no more!
This was a fast paced, sexy read that I enjoyed.Looking forward to reading more about the members of Chaos Bleeds,as this is their MC name.
Looking at the epilogue,I see that it will be Ripper's and Judi's (?) story. -
"Devil's Charm" is the story of Lexie and Devil.
First off, I knew before starting this book what I was getting into. I've read enough MCs, and I know SC loves JB- so I kind of had a premonition what this is going to be.
Anyways, the story is about a h with a deadbeat sister, who dumps a kid on her and disappears. The h has to take up a stripping job to pay the bills. Things get muddled when the H shows up, claiming to be the father. But apart from Simon, his son, he wants the sexy h too!
So there are a couple of things that made me uncomfortable
-I know MCs are supposed to have lax attitude and morals but usually their sexual habits are utterly gross and disgusting, and this book had parts that made me go ew
-The H was getting a blowjob when he first spots the h
-Him referring to her as a bitch, verbally degrading her and objectifying her
-His voyeuristic tendencies, which turn her on too
-The whole h stripping for his club scene, after finding him with OW- as well as the detailed description of all his club members getting a hard on, thanks to the sexy, curvy h
-Abrupt ending and confessions
-The two sisters fucking same guy plot
That being said, ofc the sex was well written, there was anal, but I did not connect or feel any affection for these characters. Man, these MC's need daily STI checks.
I dont mind dirty talking. I just want the hero to respect the heroine, and vice versa.

When Kayla shows up at her sisters Lexie's apartment with a young baby in tow, she plans to walk away from her son and whatever aftermath her actions have caused. Lexie is not ready to be a mother, she certainly doesn't have money to support a baby. When every potential job turns into a failure, Lexie finds herself a job as a stripper. The only positive is that she can take care of her sisters baby.
Life on the road has finally taking it's toll on Devil He knows his MC is wanting to settle for a bit. Focused on finding the woman who kidnapped his son and stole money, the time is right. Enjoying a night at the strip club they own he catches a glimpse of a woman he wants. Uncovering that she is the sister who is taking care of his son is just a bonus. Devil plans to make Lexie his.
I was torn on this one, overall really liked the concept but Devil is a pretty filthy minded. Lexie just agrees in a sense and I found that I would have liked a bit more spunk. Might reread later to see if different perspective. -
REALLY GOOD
Great start to a new series which is a spin off from the Skulls. Devil is the president of the Chaos Bleeds MC, he's a tough guy a real alpha male. He's fed up with drifting from one place to another, and all the random women he's had sex with. He wants to settle down in one place, and find a home for him and his men. But first he needs to find Kayla who has run off with his son, she's also stolen his money. The latest info he has is that she's dumped the child on her sister Lexie.
Lexie who now has charge of Simon is forced to do a job she would never have dreamed of. But she needs the money for her and baby Simon to survive. When Devil turns up claiming the baby is his her whole world is turned upside down.
Loved this story, the author manages to pack a whole lot in for such a quick read. Loved Devil and Lexie together. The sex was hot. With a whole cast of new characters this looks like being a great series. I hope it's not too long of a wait for the next book. -
3.5 stars!
A good start for Sam Crescent's new MC Series which spins off from THE SKULLS. Those of you who are not familiar with THE SKULLS, would have remembered CHAOS BLEEDS from that series as they were their rival group and their club president (Devil) had been adamantly searching for a woman who had run away with his son.
This is their story now. Well, the start of it anyway.
SO...
Nice introduction to the Chaos Bleeds MC! Can't wait for Ripper and Judi's story!! -
I find the hero rather too old for the 21 year-old heroine. I also find it lacking in some sense. It was like there's supposed to be more but it was rushed.

3.5 stars
This was a great MC read. Alpha MC President Devil falls for sweetheart stripper Lexie.
Add in a baby, some OW drama and a dash of action and it’s a quick, easy read. Ripper has me intrigued and I’ll definitely be looking for his story.
I received an arc of this book -
3 stars
Ultra-smutty, OTT motorcycle club read. Certainly not at the top of my mc reads, but it served it's purpose and was entertaining. -
albo 2+ albo 3- do wyboru do koloru.

I knew once I got home from work that I was going to finish this book in one sitting if it killed me.
Was it just me or was Beyonce's Partition (starting from 2:08) the anthem to this book? Lexie and Devil were amazing. I loved that Lexie was curvy and that throughout the entire book the reader was constantly being told how sexy Lexie was (even though she didn't see it).
But she sure found that out when Devil made his interest known.
He was into her and he wanted to make sure that she understood that. She caught his eye from the getgo.
I knew I wasn't going to like Kayla at the point where she showed up and dumped her baby off on Lexie. I could appreciate her caring enough about her child to take him to her sister IF that had been her motivation. But it wasn't.
I was on the edge of my seat waiting for Devil to discover that Lexie had his son. I could've screamed the anticipation was so high.
The chemistry between Lexie and Devil is instant and uncompromising. And when they finally get between the sheets I guarantee it'll knock your socks off.
He knows what he's about. In life, in his motorcycle club and especially with women.
This was definitely a book to read over and over again. And the Chaos Bleeds MC series is definitely going to be a one click buy for me from now on. -
I liked this book for the most part but found area's rushed and in one part hard to believe. (the dancing at the MC party). The heroine at times felt juvenile in her actions and thinking with the way the author works her dialogue. When early on in the story I understood her to be independent and resilient. At times the writing is hard to understand because the language isn't used correctly and I felt myself re-reading parts of the story. I found it difficult that a twenty one year old women could fall so easily for a forty five year old man especially when he was her sister's past boyfriend. Actually it was Vincent who claimed my interest and the young women that Devil rescued had far more going on than the two main characters did. The intrigue of the seedier side of the story was not detailed enough for me too; so I'm sitting on the fence as to whether I will delve deeper into this author's work in the future....
-
Lexie is your typical Sam Crescent woman, full figured, heart of gold and low self esteem, her older sister Kayla who is none of the previous things turns up out of the blue and literally dumps her baby on Lexie. Although Kayla leaves money Lexie is worried about touching it since she's no idea where it came from after losing her job she struggles to look after baby Steven and herself, having seen the job vacancy sign she literally stumbles into a strip club thinking she could waitress or work bar, the owner Vincent has a different job in mind.
Lexie's life is about to change since not only is she solely responsible for looking after Steven but his father Devil is looking for him and gunning for Kayla who stole ten thousand dollars of his, so things are hotting up and Lexie's life will never been the same.
I really enjoyed this book, I loved the characters and the story I just felt that it was overpriced. -
I don't know what it is about Sam Crescent books, but I feel like because of the difference in levels of editing, in story strength, and writing ability that these books are written by a ghostwriting mill and then slapped with an Evernight Publishing label and put up for sale. Unlike Smokey, Ugly Beast, and Second Best (all by "Sam Crescent"), this book is weak, the characters lack depth, and the editing is non-existent. For a book supposedly churned out by a publishing house, there is a striking lack of polish on ANY of the books, actually. If you are writing a book based in AMERICA then the language should fit. Reading Britishisms spoken by American mafia/bratva and MCs jerks a reader right out of the story. And the lack of commas to break up change of verb tense in a sentence is super frustrating. Seriously, with as much money as this Sam Crescent mill makes from their books, they can hire an editor over at Evernight.
Oh, and this book was terrible. I've read better by this author...or was it one of the more skilled ghostwriters who wrote Second Best? -

I really wanted to go into reading this book with an open mind, despite the short length of the book. Unfortunately I was disappointed.
Let's start with the plot.
I liked it, the premise was new( which is hard to find now days) and I liked the idea of a woman having a child thrust upon her and struggling to make it work. I expected Lexie to be a strong a capable woman facing a challenge and I was let down. I even enjoyed the idea of a biker gang settling down in a small town.
So the things I liked :
1. Vincent and a Phoebe
2. Judi
Yep that's it.
Things I didn't like...
1. The weird disjointed sentences that barely made sense. 'Where she was sat' for example could have read 'where she was sitting' so it didn't sound quite so uneducated and hillbilly
2. So she's his woman and he tells everyone she's his old lady but when Lexie turns up at the club he puts her down in front of everyone insinuates she's a whore then tells her to strip which she does then he apologises... Um what?
3. Lexie's confusion over whether or not Devil (lol there is a real lack of imagination in these stories when it comes to names... They are allowed to use their real names you know) is staying in redneck town... He just bought a house and is getting you and the other 'old ladies' to get everything ready for the club moving to town- which part of he's moving to town don't you understand dumb arse?
4. The sister returning being tacked onto the end felt rushed, forced and unnecessary. I can't help but wonder if the author did a read through and went oh shit need to resolve that- here's a few lines to do it.
5. The sex scenes... Good god what a disaster. I think if there had been more effort into developing the characters and the plot and less on how horny devil is and how much of a slut ( yeah sorry she's a slut) Lexie is then it may have been a better read.
6. Simon the baby was at least seven months old and Lexie says 'make sure you support his head' er he's not a newborn needing to be cradled... A baby that old can hold it's own head up. You'd only support his head if you were nursing or walking with the baby- considering he was sitting down I hardly see a point in mentioning it. Also I think the author forgot about the baby he seemed to get passed off to anyone who'd have him so the main characters could have sex... Great parenting
Would I recommend this book? Hell no
Would I read anything else from this author? Hell no
Will I be asking for a refund? Hell yes -
Sam Crescent is a good author, I enjoy her books, as she writes some good stories with good characters, but saying that, she also frustrates the hell out of me !!!!!!!!.
The heroine Lexie was okay she was not outstanding. I would have liked to have seen a little more backbone from her. Lexie just goes along with whatever Devil wants, she has an opinion in her head but that is it. Being 21 she did not want a child but yet she did not stop Devil from not using a condom. How the morning after pill & an abortion became the same thing? - only in Devil's mind!!!!!. Lexie was the very definition of a Doormat heroine & that was not attractive at all. When Devil verbally attacks her at the club ( calling her a whore) after she admits to herself she loves him (how & why ?????), she politely goes on & strips NAKED for the entire crew at the club. Then she still agrees to stick around - why????.
I would have liked a little more interaction with Simon the baby in the story, as a baby he was very good, never heard a peep out of him... WOW. It would have been nice to see how Devil interacts with his child so that I might have forgiven his total disregard to having another child - was he an awesome dad ?. It was these little things that annoyed me.
Devil on the other hand is the usual arrogant, dominating, caveman hero - which I love.
This story had so much going for it, if only Sam would have written more of a romance & a chase & given Lexie more of a backbone, made Devil work for her, show us that she is worth the effort then this book would have been an awesome read.
I am certainly in no hurry for the next book as the trend has been set but will I read it - most definitely. -
Abandoned at 18%, so again (for the second time today), I'm not going to rate this book.
*Just too many inconsistencies (Diana became Diane, and since when do you hold a newborn baby on your hip???).
*A disclaimer to say this was a spin off of the 'The Skulls' series (which I haven't read) would've been helpful, given that we are told of the characters and are supposed to know what went down with them.
*Devil's attitude to women in general was awful. He didn't think it was OK for women to be abused, but it was alright for him to push Tiffany off of his cock and crashing to the ground, and also to refer to all women as 'bitches'.
*A few commas wouldn't go amiss. This book could do with a heavy dose of editing.
I've hit a bit of a slump - that's 3 not so good books in a row now for me. :-( -
We met Devil and the Chaos Bleeds MC in the Skulls series where they helped Tiny.
This is the first in their own series and blends really well with the Skulls series. Can be read on it's own, but is much better if you have followed the Skulls.
For a club that doesn't have a lot of rules, the rules they go by are the good ones. Having spent most of their lives on the road, Devil is liking the idea of having his own haven. Looking for the women who gave birth to his kid, with help from the Skulls, he finds her sister in the most unusual place.
After her sister left a baby with her, Lexie has had to change to survive. Taking the only job she can find, she dances at a night club.
Once Devil see's Lexie dance he wants to know everything about her. He finds that she is just who he has been looking for, in more ways than one. -
Enjoyed way more than I thought I would. Definitely a keepers, and will re-read.
Plenty of characters for a series. I wasn't quite sure how this would work having read about Chaos Bleeds in The Skills series, but Sam Crescent made it work.
Younger h, older H worked in this book, however I'd love to see Sam write a heroine in her 30's and see how the alpha biker dude handles that, especially with a h who is damaged in some way..
