The star of this series is truly an unlikely character, an old inherited grandfather clock that was created just before the United States Civil War by a clockmaker who accidently discovered the clock had incredible qualities well beyond telling time. An accident in his clockworks shop propelled him, the clock and the story into the twentieth century and eventually into a Texas family's home, where it sat until the family tested its working condition. It definitely worked but not as they expected after they found themselves thrown one hundred twenty years into the past! After overcoming the shock of being the Earth's first time -travelers, the family was able to return the home along with a family that was headed west on a wagon train. From then on their lives were never the same again.
The family tried to discover what made the clock "tick so to speak" but eventually had to enlist the help of a university professor who also had to bring in additional scientific, theological, military, and other resources to manage the investigation of the clock as well as eventually announcing their findings to the world.
Two unexpected findings about the clock were it was manipulated by a heavenly body to help save one of their spiritual guides before the Civil War and secondly it could also be converted into a teleporter. The ability to travel well beyond the speed of light opened the Solar System and eventually the near universe to exploration and even colonization. It also produced challenges which often seemed too difficult to overcome but yet with human ingenuity, timely supernatural intervention, and the faithful grandfather clock, Earthlings were able to occupy vast reaches of the cosmos.
