After discovering that an old inherited grandfather clock was actually a time machine and could also be modified to become a teleportation vehicle, a Texas family and a University of Texas professor led the Earth into space with the help of a spiritual guide. When the multi- purpose clock was announced to the world at a UN Summit, it launched a worldwide effort to cooperatively the most pressing world problems as well as looking for new planets in the near universe which could be colonized. Mars was selected as the first colonization target although an alien group had already colonized around the solar system's largest volcano/mountain, Olympus Mons.
Although the other Martian settlers were physically very different from Earthlings, they were also very good neighbors and shared their advanced technology with Earthlings living in volcanic tubes at New Hope City. However, since Mars thin atmosphere was mostly carbon dioxide, many residents of Earth's colony were becoming dissatisfied and urged Earth's leadership to look elsewhere in the cosmos for a new home.
After several years of searching, an exoplanet named Proxima Centauri b was found to be suitable for human habitation because of its location in its sun's Goldilocks Zone. Like Mars, it had already been visited by another intergalactic civilization. Although a small number of alien technicians were living on the planet, an incident occurred which effectively removed any claim to their ownership of Proxima Centauri b.
The Earth stepped in and began to colonize the planet. Fortunately, although Proxima Centauri b was still in an early stage of natural development, it offered enough natural resources to not only support human habitation but to contribute significantly to its economy.
Throughout this journey into the cosmos, the Earth relied heavily on its only teleportation vehicle that had essentially been created by a spiritual group in the universe. It was the key for Earthlings to travel the vast distances in the near universe. None of the progress Earth had made over the last hundred years would have been possible without Beyond One, the modified old grandfather clock.
