What do you get when you mix a chef from the big city and a local firefighter/mountain rescuer? A chemistry so smoldering that your fingers catch fire from flipping the pages so fast.
Joy is seeking a retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life. Soul weary, she finds comfort and inspiration in the natural beauty surrounding Mount Heartstone. The simplicity of her little cabin and of all of nature’s bounty sparks to life a need for culinary experimentation.
Blaze, following in the footsteps of generations before him, has dedicated his life to being a firefighter. A recent tragedy has left him hesitant to let others close to him and has made him question if he has what it takes to protect those close to him.
This story delves into the heart of both of their insecurities and the strength that they find within themselves and each other to push past them and come out the other side.
Oftentimes in these short romances, readers are faced with an immature writing style and a basic plot with no real depth to it. I am happy to say that this author showed they know how to write a well rounded story and use vibrant imagery to showcase their skills. Well done!

It think this book had a lot of potential and the bones of the story was set up really well.
The romance, connection and love between Joy and Blaze was really beautiful and made you want to cherish it for the rest of your life.
The conversations were really the best parts of the story because we got to see them as a whole outside of their mind.
I also loved the way the time jumps came to be, it moved flawlessly through to the next scenes.

To the not so great parts…
There was a lot of telling instead of showing.
For as short as the book was many repeated lines and phrases throughout.
It sounded like it was trying to be written as a play with every single moment had to be explained within their thoughts as super in depth and poetic instead just letting them be humans.
There was a scene that ended up being repeated, I’m assuming it was an accident during formatting.

I appreciated what the author was trying to do but it could have been so much more.
