    *4.5 STARS*

    Wow. I am NOT okay.

4.25 stars! Heavy and a truly dark book. You feel the rage, fury, love, ruin and sacrifice along with the characters. It’s not unlike a really.good.therapy session where you get all of your inner demons out to play & by the end you are exhausted but feel so much lighter.

Vellene brings the feminine rage & fury out in full force. Eledar brings despair and self hatred. Poor guy can’t catch a break. Kadir brings love and sacrifice. Perhaps some lightness & hope. His POVs were my favorite. Mogaell… it was cool to see some backstory from her to understand her motivations some. I still just could not get to a point of liking her. B can certainly burn.

The world building and magic explanation in the first book make this book easy to understand and it flows nicely in that way.

The writing feels truly unique and I love that. I really feel the author put her heart & soul into this book.

I rate it slightly lower than the first book. On personal preference alone. It is a very difficult book to read for me. Not on content but in the stylistic sense. It is at times a bit TOO metaphorical where I couldn’t tell what is actually supposed to be happening. Many times I wasn’t sure how the characters got from one place to the other but I chalk it up to me missing the meaning behind a metaphor. I wanted a few more straight forward explanations. Especially around the Gods? The Ruin, Fury, Death thing got lost on me. I think the characters were representations of those emotions which stemmed from gods?
Also not sure that the ending was wrapped up as nicely as I would have liked. Buuutt nothing about this book suggested a nice wrap up!

Overall a wonderful book and conclusion of the duology. If you want something different, outside the usual, and very truly dark give it a shot!

Thanks to the author for the ARC copy!

    **** SPOILERS AHEAD ****

“This story has no heroes. No one is safe in a realm where two Descendants must awaken.”

When I found For Mist and Tar at the end of last year, it was a total fluke but one that absolutely crushed me. I devoured it insanely quick and was left with a gaping hole in my chest. I needed more. I wanted more. That couldn’t be the end. Then, about a month or so ago, I realized the Veil of Fate trilogy tied into these and devoured them just as quickly. Since then, I’ve been impatiently and anxiously awaiting the book that will end the universe - For Blood and Flame.

Within the first part of FBAF, I find myself grappling for answers to questions I didn’t know I had. Is Mogaell, the sister I despised, like Vellene? Why the disguise, the lie? Why did her mother do it to protect herself, not her child? Or, does Mogaell still have it wrong?

I was then immediately thrust into the life of Kadir before. The life of a boy who wanted love and dreams but was instead met with a hatred of who he was. I have always had a soft spot for Kadir so I felt his pain as if it was my own, felt it leaking into my soul. He is stronger than a child should’ve had to be, braver than a man should have to be. But, as our author said, he was not put here to live but to conquer. Not to merely survive but to dream a new world he could bring to fruition.

Two sisters thrust into a game of hate from their infancy, even when they hadn’t known it. One sister that wants to be free. One sister that wants to take power. In the moment where they should unite, find the love that is lost, the line between them gouges deeper - pulls them apart and breaks whatever was left. Vellene is left with the pain and heartache of all that she’s done - all she strains to face. Giving in, she finds her voice and it beckons to be heard. And, heard it is as it shatters the bonds shackled upon her.

Eledar, my love, my beautiful golem. The way I sobbed during his first POV when he spoke of Vellene, when Kadir came. YOU DO NOT GET TO DIE HERE. But, I swear my soul felt a kinship to his longing for death in that moment - riddled with pain and regret. I was still in shock when he trusts Kadir enough to follow him deep into The Huntress, to learn Kadir had stolen the source and simultaneously created something beautiful of all the people as one. Created it only because Eledar spoke those simple words in the woods, “to live is to fight.” My heart dropped to my stomach when Thomae cut into himself.. until I realized why.

One and the same, Eledar and Kadir drive stakes in their hearts as a way to cope with their grief - of what they’ve done, who they’ve become. But they always needed each other in ways they never knew. Through speeches or drawings, they gave life to the others flame of a dream of something more, of a wish. Of course they were always bound to end up tied together. How could they not?

Death and Fury finding love in a darkness after Fury was forged is one of the most beautiful parts of this story. Death giving all of themselves for something greater - something I never saw coming with our MCs - has me shaking. Death may be gone but Fury will never forget.

Moagell truly is morphing into a character I didn’t think I’d resonate with. She’s made decisions based on what she perceives to be the best and only course of action for those she loves and for herself. I found myself looking into my soul through the eyes of Moagell in some parts because I too am a wounded girl, full of rage, trying to figure out what to do with it as it consumes me.

All of our characters seem to find some sense of purpose, of love, of closure. With the exception of death and fury. Even at the end, i was left screaming at what was, what could have been and should have been. I have a hole in my heart that belongs to these books - a lost part of my soul that might never return. But, I suppose that’s okay because:

For blood and flame, we burn together.

    🖤 perfect, perfect pain 🖤

***Please read the trigger warnings before jumping into this, it is incredibly heavy and there are some really sensitive topics to be aware of***

I mean I don't even know where to start. For Blood and Flame continues the story of Vellene, Eledar and Kadir and picks up right where book one (For Mist and Tar) left off. It details the struggle for power and survival in a realm utterly destroyed by greed and corruption, and the acceptance that sometimes in order to do good, you have to do a lot of bad. The first 50% of this book is hard to read, I will not downplay that.

🖤 The world building and magic system evolve from book one and it was much easier to keep track of what was happening, what was being discussed and the characters roles in the Wrathos Multiverse. I particularly loved the final 15% of the book, it was spectacular writing and I couldn't put the book down. The pure imagination of this duology, but particularly the last 15% of this book was second to none. The final battle was so incredibly epic and only contributed to the pain, despair, utter hopelessness and sacrifice that the characters had to go through. It was so so moving.

🖤 I have to commend the author on her depictions of mental illness, addiction and grief. The characters are so human, they grieve, love, hate, rage.

🖤 Now for the main characters. Vellene is fury and vengeance, Eledar is hope and loyalty, Kadir is sacrifice and passion. Even the secondary characters carved their way into my heart, particularly Soffessa and Uzax. We also saw more of Mogaell and her back story. I found myself empathising with her, I could see why she became what she did and it was truly heartbreaking.

    Let us burn together

*I received an advance review copy, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. I would not recommend this book lightly due to the sensitive nature of some of the topics. That being said, the author could not have done a better job at discussing these topics and knew exactly what to leave off-page which I admired greatly. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants real morally grey characters with genuine feelings, faults and problems. The world building is epic, the magic system is unique and complex.

This series is definitely a love it or hate it one. It took me a while to get into the first book but let me tell you this one is a million times better. The plot twists, the betrayal, the heartbreak had me crying and so broken. This is definitely not a book to read if you only want a happy ending and everything to be perfect. It definitely hurts. You can really see the authors writing improving as well. This series was not the best written in my opinion but it was absolutely amazing still if that makes sense. It leaves off at a bit of a cliffhanger though so I’ll be anxiously awaiting more for sure 😭 I’ll carry this pain with me for a bit

I am simply NOT okay. I can’t believe after everything, they all got ripped apart. Then Vellene has to have her son ripped from her too?!!!!
Eledar and Kadir find each other again and the book ends?!
Why couldn’t they all be together in the end?!

Sorry, it just hurt how it ended.

    4.5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This book was SUPER slow during the first 85% of the book. Eledar and Kadir finding their love for one another without Vellene. But then she comes back and they get one night, One. Single. Night. Before they are torn apart forever.

This book is full of beautiful prose, amazing descriptions that put you right there with the characters. I fell in love with these characters in for mist and tar and was absolutely gutted by their journeys in this book. Jinapher is an amazing storyteller. There’s so much more I wish to say, but I can’t without spoilers. Go into this book preparing to be wrecked and you’ll be extremely satisfied.

This is the second book in the Alchemight series and it starts right where book #1 left off. The author does an amazing job of describing this multiverse to the point you feel like you are right there with the characters. The character building and the dynamics of the relationships is phenomenal. This was a tough book to read, lots of emotion and trauma with all the characters but I truly enjoyed the journey.

  • Alexandria

I feel numb…this book ending completely blindsided me. I had a feeling of one of the moments but what a heartbreaker. I have no idea what would happen next but I so desperately wish there would be one.

this began as a good book, especially Eledar and Kadir's chapters as I still really don't care that much about Vellene, but I simply can't go on.
Maybe I'll pick it up again, eventually.

    CONTENT WARNINGS:
All of these content warnings will also be listed within the book itself and on my author website.

For Blood and Flame is the most excruciatingly beautiful thing I have ever written. This story is not meant to be swallowed but choked down. I genuinely hope it tears your heart apart in all the cruelly extraordinary ways it did mine — if only so I have someone to discuss it with.

This is a GrimDark Adult Epic Fantasy book. Please proceed with the utmost caution. Some of these content warnings could be potential spoilers.

Characters who battle prominent mental illness, including depression, anxiety, addiction, and PTSD; On-Page Suicide Attempts and Self-Mutilation; Heavy Violence and Gore associated with war, including beheadings, corpse mutilation, torture, hangings, and descriptions of dismembered body parts; On-Page Death, including the death of parents and children; Heavy allusions (not on-page but heavily implied) to child sexual assault, child abuse, and prostitution of a minor; Some Profanity; On-Page Sex; Battle with addiction; Overall extremely dark, emotional themes.

No one is safe in a realm where two Descendants must awaken.

    AUTHOR NOTES:
For Blood and Flame (FBAF) is not a standalone novel. It is the direct sequel to For Mist and Tar
For Mist and Tar and it is the 5th book in the Wrathos Reading Order, which is available on my author website,
    https://www.wrathosbooks.com.

While FBAF is the end of the Alchemight Duology, its epilogues will open routes into new series due to the nature of these books being part of an overarching multiverse. Feminine rage and darkness levels will continue to amplify over the next few books.
