THE NOVEL-LENGTH STAND-ALONE SEQUEL TO THE BESTSELLER LAID BEAR

Curvy bear shifter Veronica Muir is ready for a new mate. It's been six long and lonely years since her husband was killed, leaving her to raise rambunctious twin cubs on her own. And wouldn't you know it, the first time she dips her toe into the dating world, she ends up falling head over heels in love…with a human.

Marine biologist Jess Slade is still raw from his divorce when he spots Veronica's online profile. Unable to resist her luscious curves, he takes a chance on love by moving to her hometown of Kodiak, Alaska. But the one thing he doesn't know about her might be the one thing he can't get past.

When a group of human-hating werebears called The Brotherhood threaten to tear them apart — quite literally — Jess and Veronica, with a little help from Max and Bethany, must decide where their loyalties lie and if their love is worth fighting for.

Fantastic continuation of Laid Bear, I loved every minute of it.
Where Laid Bear was very erotic, Laid Bear 2 has lots of action, suspense and love.

I heard you should never mess with a Mama Bear, well that's Veronica, she can switch from being a sweet loving gal to a P'ed Mama Bear ready to protect her cubs and her man in a second.

Bethany and Max from Laid Bear have a nice surprise for you, although there is a mind blowing ending. It blew mine.

Read it, you won't be sorry!

Marina you rockkkkk girl, great story!

‘Laid Bear 2: The Kodiak Clan’ by Marina Maddix, a continuation of the Laid Bear series, is a great sequel to the first book, ‘Laid Bear’.
In this book, Ms. Maddix has provided not only a virtually seamless continuation (with only a little fast-forward in the timeline) of the story of Max and Bethany as they continued learning and growing as a couple, but also introduced a new couple in Jess and Veronica.
The scene descriptions and plot flow were very good throughout the entire story, with just the right amount of drama and tension to balance the action.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading about Max and Bethany, but I found myself connecting better with Jess and Veronica. For me, their characters were just a little more fleshed out (or real, if you like) due to the details provided of their pasts, not to mention the oh, so modern way they met.
I received an arc of ‘Laid Bear 2: The Kodiak Clan’ in exchange for an honest review, and I’m very glad I was given the opportunity. This is a fun, sweet, fairly fast read, and I highly recommend the series to anyone who enjoys this genre. I can’t wait until ‘Laid Bear 3’ comes out this fall – I’ll definitely be reading it!

  • Margo - Putting the Mmmmmm back in Menage

DNF at 45%. I was reminded too many times how stupid Bethany is and how bad her choices are. I quickly moved past wanting to bitch slap her, and on to wanting to kill her. Then I realized she's a fictional character and I couldn't actually beat her with the Clue Stick until she died. So I gave up and stopped reading to save myself from further irritation.

Dear Bethany - This isn't the only book where I've cheered for the bad guys to win, but this may be the book where I cheered the hardest.

Dear Veronica - Don't follow Bethany's advice. Hell, don't even follow her across the street. Stupid might be catching.

Vanessa and Jess make a great couple and I ended the book wanting to know what happens to them next. I also liked catching up with Bethany and Max from "Laid Bear". I do suggest you go purchase the first one like I did a few days ago. It does help with this story which I received free in exchange for an honest review. I liked this book even better than the first one.

I really liked that the story line didn't have just any old arbitrary villain. He and the problems facing these 2 couples work well in the context of the story and were very believable to me. This story also sets up what I assume is going to be the villain for the next story.

I'm very excited to see that the story seems likely to continue with the 'date/mate' agency as a vehicle for future stories. For those of you who are worried though, this story does have a very satisfactory HEA. Fare warning though, there is quite a shocker at the end, my mouth was literally hanging open when I got to that part. Marina is very good at creating tension without adding in all sorts of crazy complications into the story.

I could hardly put my Kindle down to do some vital errands which is always a sign of a great story. Go on, buy it, read it, review it, you know you want to.

Thanks Marina for the hours of enjoyment I got from this book!

I was so excited to read the second book in this series. We get caught up with Bethany and Max from book one. They decide to start up a werebear/human dating service. During this book you find that Bethany is pregnant and their first dating case is in Kodiak, Alaska. They are having to deal with the evil clan of the Brotherhood who would just love to destroy the lives of all the human/werebear matings.

Their first case is a female werebear, Veronica, with twin cubs. She lost her husband 6 yrs ago and is trying to get together with a human, Jess, who works for wildlife and fisheries. So everyone ends up in Kodiak and let me tell you, there was so much action, suspense and adventure here. I couldn't stop reading until I was done. There are some sex scenes with some hot lovin and there are also some funny parts too. Now to see how all of these things play out, you are just going to need to read the book. There is so much that I did not say!! There is going to be another book, but this does have an HEA. There is a sort of a cliff hanger, but you will understand after you read it. I'm just loving this series and can't wait for book 3. I received an arc of this book for an honest review. Great job Marina!!

I just read Laid Bear 2 by Marina Maddix. This book was well worth the wait. Bethany & Max are back and better than ever. They are a mixed couple (human & werebear), and therin lies the problem. There's a group of purist werebears out there that aren't too happy about our happily expectant couple. We are also introduced to another couple Jess & Victoria and their trials with the purist weres. I enjoyed the way in which both couples dealt with the strains of new relationships when impacted by intolerance. Can't wait for the next book.

I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

    Go Mama Bear

    What did I like?
I love when the MC are an unlikely couple. Human males and Shifter females in a relationship tend to upset the applecart in most shifter societies. A big no-no, which is something I don't get when there are so many Shifter Male/Human Female pairings. In this story we learn a little more about bear culture and open up the possibility of figuring out some of the questions left over from Laid Bear. Despite the way he was leading his life, it was sad to see Yoren die, and I hope they catch that murdering, crazy scientist. I'm glad that Chet got to see a HEA bear-human birthing. Such a tragedy what happened to him and his mate. I'm also glad that Charlotte got her head out of her behind and made up with Bethany. The dead mate's voice in her head made my heart sigh. It's difficult to move on when you've lost someone you love and to have that kind of encouragement is uplifting and comforting.

    What I didn't like?
Really couldn't think of a thing.

    Would I recommend this book?
Absolutely, if you have read Laid Bear, this is a must buy. I would encourage you to read Laid Bear before you read Laid Bear 2, though the main couple is different there are a lot of return characters and events are continuing from the previous book.

  • Anne-marie

Having not read the first book of the series I wasn't sure how smoothly I would be able to dive into this story. I should not have worried, I quickly became emotionally invested in the characters. This is a suspenseful story filled with humor, love and action. The twist at the end is fantastic! I recommend this to any lover of shifter romance. The eroticism is low, but the romance is wonderful. I am definitely looking forward to future instalments of this series.

*I received an ARC of this book for an honest review*

I loved everything about this book, and though I haven't yet read the 1st in the series, I was able to keep up with this one. (Though I have bought and will read/review the first)
I adored Veronica (Ronnie) she may be one of my fave female leads, she was tough but had heart. I really liked Max too, and can't wait to read how his story started.
** I was given this book in exchange for an honest review **
The thoughts and opinions are mine and mine alone. I highly recommend this book! Thank you, Marina for the opportunity to read this awesome book!

  • Tonya Boutwell Hauser

I got this as ARC. I read the first one and loved it. Max and Beth are true soul mates and they are having a baby so excited.

The receive a message from Veronica who is a werebear and she is in love with a human Jess. Veronica needs their help to make her relationship work.

Add in the Brotherhood who will do anything to stop mixed relationships. This book was wonderful and I can't wait to see what comes next.

    Spoiler Alert......

I love this book it has some spice, but is not only about the intercourse. The twin bear cubs are too cute would love to learn more about them. Vanessa is a great character and she reminds me of my self!!! Please get the book it is worth the buy!!!! This lady knows how to write!

    3-3.5 stars

This was a good story. I liked Veronica and Jess but wished there was more to their story. This addition to the series is longer than the first but it contains a lot of Max and Bethany in it (as a continuation of their story from book #1
Laid Bear) so only part of it is about Veronica and Jess.

Veronica is a were-bear and the mother of twin cubs that are 6 years old. Her mate died around the same time her cubs were born and it hasn't been until recently that she's considered getting involved with someone new. She signed on to an online dating service to get used to flirting again but didn't expect to meet anyone. Much to her surprise she met Jesse who is human but she really liked. They've been in touch for 6 months and she's fallen for him big time. Now if she can just get the courage to meet with him...

Jess is a marine biologist but took a summer job in Alaska to be close to Veronica. He fell for her through their conversations online and took a job that he was way overqualified for in order to be close to her and hopefully have a chance to meet her. He's frustrated with her reluctance when he suggests meeting but is willing to be patient if it gives him a chance with her.

Max is sent to Kodiak, Alaska by the council to attempt to set up a mating for a local were-bear. Bethany wants to go but Max tells her it's too dangerous. They have a fight before Max leaves and so Bethany decides to go after him to make up. The problem with this is that the area they're going to is heavy with were's that tend to violently oppose a were with a human. Max told Bethany about the danger but she goes anyways and this puts Max in a bind as he tries to do what he needs to while keeping her safe. Bethany got an email looking for help with were/human relations from Veronica and is determined to stay in the area to try to help Veronica (regardless of the danger). All in all it seemed a bit TSTL for me to appreciate Bethany's actions. She does end up helping a bit but overall her presence doesn't really help the situation and causes Max major stress and issues. Veronica and Jesse meet and this go well between them and quickly get hot and heavy. Unfortunately, Jess finds out about Veronica's shifting without warning and he takes it badly...like really badly. He freaks and ends things with her and decides to leave the area. Veronica is crushed and almost makes a big mistake in her sadness. There's some major drama as the bad were's try to make trouble. Max has to try to do his job but still save Bethany and Veronica and Jesse have their own issues to deal with. Things end up good for both couples (but not until pretty much the end of the book) and Veronica and Jess are set to start their HEA.

This was a good story but I didn't like it as well as the first book. I liked Jess and was a bit frustrated by his freakout over the were issue but, I can't really blame Jess for freaking a bit and he did come around. Veronica was cool and overall I didn't have an issue with her actions. I think my main frustration was that things seemed kind of rushed even though this book is longer than the first one. I wish the story had given some idea of what Veronica and Jess will do from here because I'm not sure if staying in Veronica's hometown would be safe for them... I'm unsure if I'll read more of this series in the future. I may but it's not a guarantee.

OK, I enter the contest for an early copy of this book but I already got it!! ;-) This is the 2nd book in this series and I have to say I like this one a bit better than the first one but it might be that this one was longer (I love full-size novels). Some of the character from the first book are in this one too which make it read more as a follow up to the first one because Max and Bethany are an active part in this book. I'm really looking forward to more books in this series. Now don't get me wrong you can read this one as a standalone but I really think you will get more out of it if you read the first book Laid Bear (A Werebear Shifter BBW Romance)

This is the write up on Amazon:
From New York Times & USA Today Bestselling Author Marina Maddix

I was gifted this book by the author Marina Maddix for an honest review. This is the 2nd book of the Laid Bear series. I really liked reading this book and would recommend this read to anyone.

This book is about Max and Bethany who are trying to deal with a baby on the way, running a were-bear & human matchmaking site and the conflicts that happen in their relationship but it also deals with Jess and Veronica and their budding romance.

Both of these couples in the book deal with just about the same problems and there is a flow between the characters through out the book. There are not just every day problems but also with the conflicts between them and people who do not like the were-bears to mix with humans. The emotions that are in the book feel real in today's world so you feel like you are fighting along side of them for what is right.

The length of the book could have been a little longer but other then that it is a good read.

I would suggest this book to an paranormal romance reader who like the BBW elements in the story line. There is suspense, the ups and downs of romance, action through out this book.

  • Cahm

As other reviewers have stated this is the sequel to Laid Bear and can be read as a stand alone. I agree, but recommend reading Max and Bethany's beginning as it just makes the happenings in this book more understandable as their relationship is one of a kind special.

There are two love stories intertwined in this past paced story filled with the roller coaster of action and emotions that author Marina Maddix writes so very well.

The antagonist is really not a nice guy and the town is interspersed with prejudice which just makes for more tension and cheerleading (on the readers part) for love to prevail over selfishness and greed.

I wish that Veronica and Jess had more interaction and page time. Their story was truly unique and special with her situation and the twins to add more romance and comic relief. I have my fingers crossed that we will get to know more in future installments of the series.

In summary, I look forward to the next book and hope that it will arrive at Amazon and other ebook retailers in the very near future.

I was given an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is the 2nd book of the Laid Bear series, but can be read as a stand alone. Great short story, with action and romance.

There are 2 stories that intertwine. First we have Max and Bethany, a shifter and human couple, who are expecting a baby and starting a shifter/human matchmaking service. We also have Veronica and Jess who met online but have never met. Veronica is a were-bear widow with twin boys, and Jess is a human who has no idea what Veronica is.

Relationships between shifters and humans are not accepted by Veronica's clan, so she writes to Bethany asking for advice on how to proceed. Max job sends him to Alaska, where Veronica happens to live, and Bethany ends up meeting Veronica and trying to help her out.

Looking forward to a 3rd part!

I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.

  • Sweets Books

I really enjoyed this book. It was interesting to read about the different ways different clans treat their own when it comes to human-shifter relationships. It was a surprise how things were happening between all the characters. The twist and turns and up and downs was good. I like the Paul and Jimmy the way the acted was hilarious. The whole story line was good. Just want to know what happens to the Professor and if he gets caught ? Does he hurt anybody else? He was someone I was not happy with.

I really liked this book and look forward to read the next one.

  • Deljah

New couple "fell in love" before the book begins, so we don't get to see it happen. I had trouble believing it was more than a crush. Lots of telling instead of showing.

Couple from book 1 still isn't married though she's about to give birth. No reason why is given. The text begs the question. She makes some stupid decisions that endanger herself.
I didn't enjoy her friends from the first book. They seemed silly, cliche and over the top.

    Werebear culture was not attractive.

First book was cute and fun. This one wasn't.

  • Kristy

I received a free copy of this book for my honest review, and let me tell I was not disappointed!! The plot thickens, and new bear shifters are introduced as well as a shifter society that holds prejudice against the possibility, and actuality of human/shifter relationships. I cannot wait for the next book to see how everything works out for all characters, new and old, whom are involved!!

  • LastBreath

I thought this would have been the exclusive story of Veronica & Jess. But it was a hash-up of these two plus Bethany & Max. Which bugged the hell out of me.

There were so many cool dimensions this had spun yet we always came back to Bethanys childish ways.

Apologies to the author but this installment definitely was not for me.

  • Leigh

Not really a stand alone IMO.

  • SheLove2Read

Usually not a good thing when you want to bitch slap a pregnant woman. DNF

  • Haley Gonzales

Was a good book overall I loved the story but the focus I feel like could have been for on the main characters. She oesnt really do jess and Veronica's story to its fullest extent you mostly hear about max and Bethany although there story was nice I don't like the 4 different people's point of views.
