When Rex Renaud, the COO of Mercier Shipping, is arrested for a crime he didn't commit, he knows he'll need a miracle to clear his name … and sassy lawyer Charlotte Andreko is the perfect woman for the job.

Charlotte has built her career defending pro bono clients against womanizers like Rex Renaud, and she'd much rather let him sweat it out in a jail cell than defend him in court. Yet Rex swears he's been set up, and when he offers her a shocking sum of money in exchange for her legal counsel, the financial security is too tempting to resist. The court dubs Rex a serious flight risk—how many people have their own jet?—and he's released on one condition: Charlotte's his new jailer, and he's stuck with her until his arraignment.

But when a bomb threat sends Rex and Charlotte on the run, neither is prepared for the explosive chemistry and red-hot passion that flare between them as they hunt for the truth about his arrest.

Ahh! This novel was the epitome of a H-O-T read. Gwen blew me away. This was my first novel from the author and it can be read as a standalone. I promise you though, you will want to read all the novels, because I most certainly do.

Rex and Charlotte's story is a fast paced and steamy read. From the first page they are non stop. While you are reading, it feels as though a lot of time has passed, but the book takes place over the course of 4 days. Thats it. I say this to try and show you how much fantastic development was put into this novel. After reading it in its entirety, I felt as if I knew all the characters and had forever. I jumped into he third novel in the series, and still had no trouble getting to now everyone or following along. THAT is good writing.

Charlotte is a lawyer that prides herself on her pro-bono work for women. She has made her career knocking down guys like Rex. So why is she the lawyer that he calls when he is charged with just a such event. Of course, he is innocent. Charlotte just has to prove it.

From that moment on I felt like I needed to fan myself with the turn of each page. The immediate and undeniable chemistry between the characters was palpable. Granted, they both did their best to stay professional, people only have so much self control.

The scenes in this novel were expertly written. I am not always a big fan of lots of sex, but in this novel it really worked for the characters. It didn't feel forced or over written. Gwen has a talent with balancing just the write about of Erotic with romance.

This was a HIGHLY enjoyable read that I would recommend to anyone that likes a good racy romance. Again, it can be read as a standalone, but I have a feeling that this series as a whole would be best done its justice being read for the start.

Lately, I've wanted more from my romance books than just romance. I enjoy it more when it has some suspense, some humor or some mystery to go along with the romance. This book delivers that.

Rex and Charlotte live in different worlds. He's a French businessman accused of an assault he didn't' commit. She's an activist attorney that defends women who have been wronged. They don't go together. I think that's the only reason I accepted their insta-love. They fell in love in four days. It's not unheard of but it's not common. What made it work was the fact that they would normally never be in close enough proximity to even have a relationship. But the crime Rex was charged with changed that. And when they were forced to spend 24/7 together, they discovered they are exactly what the other needs.

I enjoyed the mystery and the political games that made this whole story work. It was nice to have that to drive them together. I do think I was a little more lost because I was coming in mid-series. It stands alone but I might have had a better handle on what was happening if I had already known some of the players. As it was, I had to rely on what Rex thought was happening and what clues he uncovered. In the end, I had no idea. It was a set of circumstances that I couldn't possible have pieced together having just read this one book alone. But I enjoyed it just the same.

I enjoyed all the French and was really glad I could translate with my iPad. Though it was mostly clear, I still liked highlighting and finding out for sure. I loved hearing Rex's accent in my head. The little French I still remember from my high school classes made that clear in my head.

Written in third person, I actually enjoyed the writing. It's not my favorite writing style but this author does a good job of still writing from one characters POV at a time. I never felt confused by who was thinking what.

This heat is high in this one. Rex is definitely all French. He knows how to please a women and when he's also invested with his feeling, it gets pretty warm. I enjoyed watching him go from lust to love though. It was interesting.

This book will appeal to people who like more to romance books than romance. Throw some bad politicians into the mix and you have a book that you don't want to put down.

    My Thoughts:

I haven't read any books by Gwen Jones, but knew that I had to read, The Laws of Seduction, when I saw the sexy book cover, and read the intriguing book synopsis. All of her books look so good, and I am a huge fan of Avon Impulse, so I was eager to try out a new-to-me-author!

Sexy Frenchman, Rex Renaud, finds himself in hot water, when he is unjustly accused of sexual assault. It becomes clear that someone powerful is framing him when his cell phone, which holds the key to his innocence, disappears from evidence. The problem is, Rex has many enemies, as he is a wealthy, ruthless, womanizing businessman.

He hires Charlotte, a successful feminist lawyer, to defend him for a large sum of money. At first, Charlotte, thinks that he is guilty of the crime committed, but then quickly realizes his innocence, when she see's that they are being followed. Charlotte is determined to help him uncover the conspiracy, but is very aware that danger lurks in every corner. Things get complicated when Rex and Charlotte's steamy attraction turns to a sexual relationship. Is this just a convenient temporary arrangement, or could it be love?

The Laws of Seduction can be read as a standalone. However, some of the secondary characters were from previous books in the series, and I didn't know a whole lot about them. I loved how Ms. Jones wove French in throughout the story. It made Rex's character that much more sexy and seductive! I love a man with an accent, and French is one of the languages of love. Ms. Jones wrote spectacular love scenes! Ever word was like an aphrodisiac, and every one of these scenes packed a powerful punch throughout the story. I appreciated the fun and flirty banter between the main characters which added a light hearted and fun quality to the story.

I think the plot could have been more suspenseful. There were a few little plot twists along the way, but I would have liked to see more action and danger in the story. Overall, I would say that reading my first book by Ms. Jones was a pleasurable experience, and I am looking forward to reading more of her books.

    My Rating:

I give, The Laws of Seduction, by Gwen Jones, 3.5 Wickedly Erotic, Sexy Debonair Frenchman Filled Stars!!!

    My Favorite Quote:

"In so many ways he represented all she hated about men and their selfish ambitions. But in so many other ways she was inexplicably drawn. And that was the most confusing part of all." (eARC, Loc. 1376)
