Daniel Plays Ball: Ready-to-Read Pre-Level 1 (Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood) Reviews

My 5-year-old checked this out. He's not reading independently yet, so I read it to him and thought it would be too simple to hold his interest, but he seemed to enjoy reading it along with his little sister. This book has a good lesson in not giving up.

  • Kri O'Kellas

Happy to say this book doesn’t have sports per say, but it’s still about playing a game and dealing with the struggles of not doing something perfectly the first time. It would be better if Daniel also made an animal sound at the end, but that’s just me.

  • Heather

Daniel and his friends play animal ball, making animal sounds when different people catch the ball. Daniel has trouble catching it, but Prince Tuesday teaches him that if he keeps trying, he can get better.

Not a lot going on in this one, but it's a good theme for anything kids are trying to do.

Notes: Great font size, and line spacing for an early reader. The boarder surrounding the text helps children focus on the written word. With that said, the illustrations offer many visual clues, and adults should help children in that area as well.
