The current adoption culture among Christians is a necessary and welcomed movement. Many people, however, don’t understand how the Bible directs and informs adoption. A Guide to Adoption and Orphan Care, edited by Russell D. Moore, seeks to help adoptive parents and churches better think about and practice adoption. First, the book presents biblical and theological foundations for adoption and orphan care. Next the book develops the implications of this foundation, then offers application for adoptive parents and pastors who want to cultivate an adoption culture in their churches.

A Guide to Adoption and Orphan Care Reviews

  • Matthew

Good general overview of what adoption is, why it matters to churches and how everyone can get involved, whether they are physically adopting or not.

  • Chris Rainey

Rusell Moore does it again. This time he brings friends

  • Mark A Powell

Adoption is in vogue among modern-day evangelicals, and rightly so. Developing that trend with sound theology and much-needed doses of reality, Moore and company provide a helpful resource to understanding orphan care. Yet since many who read this will likely already be ‘on board’ with adoption, what’s lacking is a set of practical resources for those interested in moving forward. There is much useful material here, but the work suffers from the unrealized potential for more.

  • Brandon Stiver

A very good book overview a number of orphan care and adoption themes. I enjoyed hearing different voices on the subject while keeping Dr. Moore as an overarching commentator. If somebody is just starting to explore adoption and orphan care or wanting to start a ministry in your church, this is a good place to start.

  • Jeremy Swartz

I don't want to give this book 5 stars because I do NOT recommend the author beyond this book, but this book is a good resource to learn more about adoption or orphan care.

  • Jeff Learned

    Very good, especially for leaders.
