“At the end of these talks, regardless of books, science, and geographic boundaries, Janie becomes mine.”-Zane
Words can't express how much I FUCKING loved this book!!!!!! I give it 5 How do I say Goodbye to a series I have grown to love stars.......... Of course that title is too damn long so. OMG Janie and Zane's Story is Finally here! This book was one of the best books I have ever read. It was pure perfection!!! I fell in love with Talen in book one and it's been a beautiful love affair ever since and this book is the perfect ending to one of the best series I have ever read!
“What are you so afraid of, Zane?” He sighed, his mouth near enough to her ear to cascade a tremble down her back. “Failing. Losing family. Losing you.”- Janie and Zane
“But I’m glad the mating happened.” Nothing else on earth was the true green color of his eyes. Her shoulders hunched. “Right. Because now you can use my powers and keep me from the Kurjans.” His hold tightened. “No. Because you’ve been mine your entire life, and I’m tired of waiting.”-Zane and Janie
This book picks up right at the peace talks. Janie is 25 and she knows its time to fulfill her destiny whatever that is. Zane is a warrior trying to protect his best friend and more since childhood, Janie belle. War is everywhere and All Hell is about to break loose. Zane is such a complex character he just has so many layers....Loyal, Strong, brave, sweet, dominant, fighter, and protector. All alpha male and soldier he makes one hell of a sexy kick ass hero! I fell in love with little Janie belle Kayrs in book 1 when she was just 4 years old and through the series I have gotten to watch as she has grown into a beautiful and brave woman. In Marked you get to really see the little human that has had the pressure of the world on her shoulders since her birth. Sassy, strong, loyal, brave, kick ass, funny, but super smart. Janie is the perfect heroine!
“He’s powerful and dangerous. Deadly and so damn wounded I just want to ease his pain—but he won’t let me. When he kisses me, the world makes sense, and when he orders me around, I want to kick him in the balls.” She plucked at a loose string on a pillow. “And more than anything, I want to be his everything.”-Janie
“Never, and I mean fucking never, get between me and somebody who wants to hit me. Got it?” Blue flashed hard and pissed in her gorgeous eyes. “Right now I want to hit you.”-Zane and Janie
Zane and Janie together are steamy and so romantic. It was fun watching them go from childhood friends and first loves to something deeper and everlasting. There's explosive plot twists and tons of action in this book. It shocked the hell outta me so many times. Tons of things in this book I didn't see coming and it had me on the edge. My emotions were all over the place one minute I was laughing, the next I was yelling OMFG!!! Then the next I was crying Yes for real ugly crying. Twice!!
“I need you, Belle. Make me forget the pain.”-Zane
“Now get over here and do your duty.” She stood and paused. “My duty?” “Yes. I’m wounded. Kiss it and make it better.”-Zane and Janie
At the end Rebecca Zanetti wrapped up the series beautifully answering all the questions I had about the series and giving us a glimpse into the future of our favorite couples. Could not ask for more unless I could ask her not to end the series lol, but I am totally serious!
I’ve loved you every second of this life, and if I died, I’d love you every second of the next. That, my beautiful Janie Belle, is something neither fate, destiny, nor stubborn will can change. Ever.”-Zane
I would love to get Garrett's book too and see what happens with the new generation of kids. If you have not read this series for real you're missing out. If you have read this series and love it as much as I do you and you have not read Rebecca Zanetti's Sin Brother series you should check it out it's just as good! Also I hear she is doing a spin off series so looking forward to that.
“It’s our party, too. We started everything—all the matings, all the love. It was us, Talen.” His gaze gentled. “No, mate. It was you. All the love—only you could’ve created this for the Kayrs family and for me. Always you, Cara.”-Cara and Talen -
“I’m not into the whole vampire caveman routine, Zane.”
“That’s unfortunate.”
It is time for Zane and Janie to meet and fulfill their destiny. They have been meeting in the dream world for almost 20 years since they were children. They have always known that they belong together. But Zane has had his secret. Janie did not exactly know what kind of species Zane is. Only that he is part vampire.
It is time for peace between species. The war between the vast majority of the Realm (vampires, shifters and witches) and the bad boys of the Realm (Kurjans and demons) has reached a critical point.
Janie has had visions of the peace talks to end the war and she knows that she has to be there.
Kalin, her old childhood friend and the current leader of the Kurjans will be there.
“Janet. It’s good to see you again.”
“You too”
Zane, her old childhood friend and the current top soldier of the enemy will be there.
“Hi, Janie Belle”
And Janie freezes into her place, shocked and without being able to talk. Enemy.
So, all the players will take their position at the final game of the series.
There are so many things that are happening in this book that whatever I say it will be a spoiler.
Let’s just say that the book is full of:
- Adventure and epic battles between species. Peace will not be reached easily.
-Love, sex and mating vampire style.
-Funny family moments. I was laughing out loud constantly when the Kayrs family meets the Kyllwood family. And until the dust settles.
-Mysteries about the damn virus that keeps coming and going like a nightmare.
-Sacrifices from persons you never expect to sacrifice themselves.
-An excellent brilliant orchestrated final solution for the war and for the virus.
-Babies, marriages and a happily ever after.
What I missed from this book were the humans. It seems that the world is falling apart and the humans are not there. This fact isn't even on their radar.
Overall, it is an excellent book. Exactly what I was looking for and maybe more.
My favorite from the series!
Lastly, we definitely need books about the new generation because according to the Epilogue:
“They’re gonna change the world” -
Marked by Rebecca Zanetti
Book 7 of The Dark Protectors series. Best read as part of the series. Paranormal romance.
Janie has been sharing a dream world with Zane since she was four. She’s always known they would be friends and be responsible for ending the war. How and when that would happen, and who would live and die aren’t as clear to her.
The book opens with a prologue of a precious four year old Janie in the dream world she’s created with purple trees. She welcomes Zane with an assurance that its a safe place for them both. Into the first chapter, 25 year old Janie is attending peace talks with the demon leader when Zane enters her real world. This man is not the boy she’s loved and trusted all her life. Is he the enemy?
Intense, engrossing and nail-biting, this story is war and struggles for peace between races of vampires and demons. It’s the intense sexual attraction of two strong minded individuals that want to protect the other from harm. Its families trying to ensure the future for their young. It’s perceived good versus evil. Fate versus choice.
Whew. What a roller coaster.
Especially loved the epilogue that brings the continuity to a full loop. -
This was a very bittersweet read. I started reading this series about 2/3 years ago and I’m very sad to say goodbye to this but I liked that the author did not unnecessarily drag the series. Anyways, here’s the review:
Rating~ 4.75 stars
Janet Isabelle Kryrs, called Janie Belle by her loved ones is the chosen one. Her birth and her changing the world was prophesied by oracles/prophets from all species of the realm. We met Janie when she was 4 years old in the first book in the series, a child who knew things (she’s psychic) and had the ability to walk into dream land. Which is where she met Zane. In the last couple of books we saw her become a young woman who had so many responsibilities on her thin shoulders yet she was a smart-ass and had smile for everybody. Janie has spent all her life believing that she is going to change the world and ultimately keep everyone she loves safe.
Zane Kylwood is a half vampire and half something you will have to read to find out. Also known as the Ghost. He really isn’t the quiet, sweet boy that Janie was best friends with for years in their dream world before he went to live with his mother’s people. Zane is a solider, he has spent the last decade of his life in battle. He’s also an assassin, committed a lot dangerous acts and took alot of beatings to keep his family safe from his uncle. Zane from a young age has believed that Janie will be his and he will keep everyone he holds dear safe, He also hates that Janie’s willing to do anything to stop further bloodshed in the war.
Both Janie and Zane love their family, they are willing to sacrifice themselves if it means that they get to live. Janie has always believed in fate especially since fate was what resulted in her getting a family. Zane doesn’t, he wants his Janie to have choices for her future, ones that don’t involve her mating with Kalin.
Zane and Janie’s relationship was at times sweet and tender other times passionate and intense. I really liked them together, how they were both with only each other was very different to how they act around others. Janie has always showed a strong and bright front for her family, she is also slightly spoiled since her members love her and wouldn’t do anything to make her upset. She usually gets her way but not with Zane. Zane sees right through her act, of not only her manipulating people into doing what she wants but to the young vulnerable woman shes underneath. They are both stubborn and believe that they are right in all things which made their banter very interesting.
There were a few surprises about the Kayrs brothers and their behavior which made ultimately a lot of sense. The book had some twists and turns which I didn’t see coming. I sniffled and cried a few times when it seemed there would be no happy ending for anyone in the realm let alone Janie’s. They were also a lot of plotting, planning going around in the book to get the upper hand in the battle from both sides of the line and quite a few battle/fighting scenes.
We also had a quite a few scenes of the Kayrs brothers and their mates. It was lovely seeing them again.
Kalin was as expected a big part of the book, I always thought he would end up dead not because he’s a crazy, serial killer psychopath (he is that) but because of his obsession with Janie. And I liked how the prophesy his people foresaw would come to pass eventually from the way the book ended, it was just not the way he thought it would have. Sneaky Rebeecca Zanetti!
Quibbles: I loved Zane and Janie together and I would have liked a bit more of them together, their relationship and how they developed and I missed my shifters, I wanted a bit more of them as well.
Overall,a great and a happy ending to a wonderful series. Bravo Ms. Zanetti!
I cannot wait for the spin-off of the series and I really want to know what happened with Nick and his witch. Happy Reading!
I really wanted to include some quotes but I don't have time, I might add them in the future. -
If anything this series was consistent.
The things I liked about the first book were the same things I liked about this last book. The world the author built here is truly wonderful and intriguing. With so many different supernatural species, with their own histories and cultures, having to interact with each other, it has the potential to be full, rich, intricate, mysterious and at times explosive. This is what kept me reading and the reason why I might even consider reading the spin off to this series.
That said, I never felt that this series actually lived up to this potential. Yes, there was a lot of action, devious plots, double crossing and many other things that are fair in war. But over the span of 7 books (10 if you include the novellas) there was 1 truly shocking jaw dropper and 2 "Aha" moments. Not enough. I was not blown away, I was not stunned, I was not dazzled.
Speaking of unfulfilled potential, my biggest disappointment was the female leads. Zanetti fills this world with exceptional women; Empaths, Scientists, Psychics, Witches, Demon destroyers, Prophetesses and Prophesied ones, but we hardly ever see these women use their powerful gifts to truly influence the development of the story or kick some bad guy butt. With the exception of Moira, one by one we see them sectioned off and kept locked away at Realm HQ "for their own safety". I understand that as mates, they were the heroes weaknesses, but that does not make them weak. The heroes failed to grasp that distinction and the heroines failed to convince them (and me) otherwise. I'm not at all saying that they should have been jumping in and out of helicopters to fight with the men. I'm saying that their strengths were left underused and their roles kept limited to nurturing and soft places for our hard ass heroes to fall when they came back from blowing things up and literally making heads roll. I'm saying that too much emphasis was laid on physical strength and military prowess and not enough on other kinds of strength. I'm saying that in this, the series as a whole lacked balance.
The things I disliked in the first book never changed throughout the series. The male -female interactions remained frustrating, often annoying and to be honest slightly disturbing. I know this is just me, but words like "taming" and "allowing" rub me entirely the wrong way. There were threats of public spanking and there were a few instances of actual spanking. It's just not my thing. A recurring theme between the couples was that the male characters would physically overpower their women, cornering them and / or physically restraining them during arguments (and there were A LOT of those) and the female leads actually being turned on by it, subsequently dropping the point and their panties to get some sexy times in. No one ever really talked anything out or came to a point of understanding their partner as a result of actual conversation. I got the impression that these arguments were used as a plot device to create sexual tension or excitement between couples. That felt cheap to me. It lacked true intimacy and it's really not my idea of how you build an emotional connection or a strong relationship. I kept thinking "Who are these people?" I couldn't connect with them and it undermined my enjoyment of the series. -
This book was absolutely everything I hoped it would be. Like so many other fans of the Dark Protectors series, I have been waiting anxiously for Janie's story. We've been teased with bits and pieces for years. We have known her since she was just four years old; we've followed her as she has become more powerful and as she has come closer and closer to fulfilling her destiny. We've caught glimpses of her connections to Zane and Kalin. And it's all led up to this. I am getting excited all over again just thinking about it.
The story begins with the big peace talks among all of the supernatural factions and it's there that Janie, Zane, and Kalin all meet in person for the very first time. And we finally learn who --and what-- Zane really is. From their very first interaction, Rebecca Zanetti drives home the differences between how everyone is in the dreamworld versus reality. Everything is no longer hazy and hopeful. Zane is dark and deadly and Janie has to quickly come to terms with the fact that the Zane of her fantasies is a flesh and blood man with his own loyalties and baggage that are part of the package.
I love that there is more to Zane than meets the eye. He is just a touch more caveman than my taste generally dictates. (The only thing in the whole book I would have changed was the obligatory spanking "to teach her a lesson.") But overall, he is not nearly as overbearing as the heroes in the early books of the series. I appreciate that he gives Janie credit where she's due and he doesn't ignore what she can bring to the table.
The romance was 100% satisfying, both emotionally and sexually. But there is just as much to be said about the larger story arc. This book is the culmination of all the fighting, scheming and atrocities among the demons, kurjans, witches, vampires and shifters. It's positively explosive and it went in a direction I never saw coming. It was fantastic. I was on the edge of my seat from the beginning to end. There is a ton of action and it's filled with twists and turns.
The ending is 100% satisfying in every way. Not only is the main arc wonderfully resolved and the romance full of HEA goodness, we get to spend some time with every single couple we have fallen in love with over the course of the series. I can't think of any way she could have done this better. Fans are going to love this book. I know I sure did.

4.5 epic stars
There was so much anticipation for this story, I dare say nothing could have lived up to it. But it came damn close!
Listening to this was not favorable because Janie's voice sounded a lot like her little girl voice so I had a hard time thinking of her as a 25 year old woman.
Janie was WAAAAY too forgiving and naïve. When the big twist came with Zane, I was like WTF!!! I mean I must be obtuse, because I did not see it coming. Anyway, I am still saying WTF, and she has already forgiven him. huh...
But they are very good together. Zane has become a man. A very complex, tortured, domineering MAN. After reading about him and Janie in the other books as they grew up, it was awesome to get to their story.
There was so much to this story, it was pretty epic. I did not see most of it coming. There was a point that there were some time jumps (which normally bug the crap out of me) but the way they were done - Oh yes I cried. Even though I knew Rebecca would not screw us all over with sad ending, I was still crying right to the end. The tension and worry was there, even though I KNEW it would recover. That, for me, is the sign of a good story.
As this story concludes - I realize that Talen (from the very first book) still my most favorite hero of the series. His character was prominent in most of the books and I think he only got better with age. -
What an absolutely amazing ending to this series. It feels like I’ve been waiting for Janie and Zane’s story forever and I went in with high expectations. Usually, that’s not a good thing but Ms. Zanetti met my expectations and superseded them.
Man, this one had it all. Vampires, demons, Kurjans, witches and shifters. So much going on that there was never a moment when the story slowed down. And the feels. Oh my holy goodness, there were times when I wanted to cry like a baby. Okay, I admit it, I did cry. I dare you to read this series and not feel moved.
You definitely need to read the books prior before stepping into this one. It’s told in dual points of view with some viewpoints from the characters of the previous books. These times are clearly marked and added to my total reading enjoyment. There is a lot of violence with bloodshed – I mean, vampires, hello.
I read this series as a buddy read with some wonderful girls who helped to keep me on track and tequila free. (Okay, maybe not completely tequila free.) It has been an amazing experience and I am blessed and honored that they included me. -
Janie Kayrs has a dream friend named Zane. She has searched for him far and wide but has never been able to uncover Zane in the real world until he walks in with her enemy at the negotiating table.
When Zane kidnaps Janie can she trust that he is the man from her dreamscape or is he the hardened and feared warrior that showed up in that room.
If the snarky commentary, the marvelous humor and the suspense filled action doesn't grab you, the steamy chemistry will. I was sucked in immediately and held captive till the end.
What a fantastic way to tie up all the loose ends. Marked was a terrific conclusion to this series but left it opened for a possibility for a spin off..lets keep our fingers crossed.
I received this ARC copy of Marked from Kensington Books - ekensington in exchange for a honest review. This book is set for publication December 22, 2014.

Several years ago I went thur an intense pnr phase in my reading and came across a new author by the name of Rebecca Zanetti. The book that caught and held my attention was Fated and introduced me to the Kayrs family and the oh so very delicious Talen. In his book,we are introduced to his mate Cara and her young daughter Janet .The reader is also introduced to Janet's dream world friend Zane. This is Zane and his Janie Belle 's story. And what a story it was.To say I loved it would be an understatement. This book drew upon my emotions from smiling to teary eyes when things seem the darkest for this couple and their family.
What a wonderful way to end this series,I loved the update on all the couples and the epilogue with the couples daughter and the son of the "enemy" in their own dream world opens up the possibility of a new series.
I loved this series, a winner for me in this genre. If you haven't read this seties before,I highly recommend it. -
Sigh I wish I could give this book more than 5 stars, loved every second of it and my only complaint is that it wasn't longer! Janie and Zane were perfect together and I was beyond happy with their story :)
-
Wow! I binge read this! My eyes are swollen and puffy and I've only eaten junk food, but it was worth every lost hour of sleep! I love this series and this final book could only be described as the cherry on top of the sundae ... just great!
-
Well this was a 6 star as far as I'm concerned!!! I won't go into the synopses of the book, the intro above pretty much give you a heads up of what the story is about.
This was a great read all around!! It had everything I love in a romance!!! I absolutely loved the hero, Kane and the heroine Janie was absolutely my favorite heroine to date!! Kane was alpha, sweet, strong, loyal, heroic and hot!!! And Janie was intelligent, strong, funny, sweet, loyal and beautiful. And the love story between them was intense, memorable, sweet and hot!!! These two had chemistry and loved how adult and well they communicated there feelings, hopes and challenges with each other. They where playful together and also very respectful (okay, Kane was an Alpha, which I love so, ya). It was wonderful to read about past couples from her previous books (which are very good as well and should be read too) and fantastic secondary characters jumped off the pages and was invested in them as well as the main characters. There is nothing I love to read more about than loyalty and family, makes stories so much richer. I laughed, sighed and cried reading this book.
Very sorry to see the series end but I believe she has another coming, so I'm excited for what she has in store for us next.
Highly, highly recommend!!!

Janie, Zane & Kahlin's story (n0t a menage):
Amazing!! We've been teased over and over with Janie, Zane and Kahlin's story in the previous books. Everything we've read up to this point was getting us to their finale. With all that build up, I wasn't sure it would be able to keep up with the hype. Instead it was much better! Rebecca Zanetti shocked me more than once in this book and I love that it wasn't predictable. While it feels like it's the end to a series, it's more an end to that storyline. She ended this book with a possibility of a new one with some or all of the same characters. Personally, I'm hoping for more.
Series Review: Fun, fast paced PNR series. Great storyline, characters and suspense. Insta-love, mates for life, possessive Alphas and grotesque evil foes. There are Vampires, Shifters, witches, Demons and more. This is a continued storyline focusing on a different couple per book. -
I love a good PNR book.
I especially love a good PNR series.
If I narrow it down to a favorite (regardless of gender) 'The Dark Protectors' burns brightly near the top of the list.
Zanetti doesn't leave much out-
Vampires...shifters....demons....witches...and hybrids.
Sexy strong women and sexier stronger vampires with biting and marking and of course, saving the world.
Little Janie Belle isn't so little anymore. and ZANE! Holyhell he might push Talen aside as my favorite 'Protector'...maybe.
The Chosen One will fulfill her duty to fate.
Shocking surprises and tearful moments tie everything together.
*sobs*
It's over...but not truly over.
I'm hopeful that the bonus spin-off series will continue to give us glimpses of all the couples. I'm certainly tagging along, just in case.
*5 no-no-no-yes-yes-yes stars* -
4 3/4 "It was worth the wait." Stars!
I loved it! A great ending to the DARK PROTECTORS series, yet it leaves room for more! Can't wait to get to the REALM ENFORCERS. Maybe a more detailed review when my TPAM girls finish. Happy reading! -

Summary
Janie has known Zane since she was four years old and she entered the dream world. She has always held a soft spot for Zane, but the time for reality is now. Janie, is the key to saving the future, and every race seems to have plans for her future. But she is determined to show Zane that she can be his partner and not to be held back on the sidelines. When she learns about who he really is, that he is half demon and half vampire, she is shocked. And not only that, but he is related to the leader of the demons. Zane has been trained as a soldier, and has suffered under his uncles hand, but Zane will do everything in his power to keep those he loves safe, including Janie and his family whose locations are being kept from him if he takes action against his uncle. However time is running short for him, and when he devises a plan, it puts Janie in the middle of danger, and he might have to choose where his loyalties lie, and is he strong enough to face his uncle and become leader over the demons he despises and take hold of his future…
The Hero
Zane is a character that we don’t know hardly anything about until we read Marked. His true identity is kept from us in the whole series, and in the previous books the anticipation was just about to kill me. But we learn who he really is pretty quick in the first few pages. Zane is half vampire and half demon, and his mother is imprisoned, and his brothers are out fighting on locations he doesn’t know about. Zane is the next successor to his uncle, who is the most powerful demon and taking him out could prove disastrous. Zane is going to be tested personally in this book, and we see his true character come forth. There are many facets to his character, and we see him struggling with loyalty, his devotion to Janie, his love for his family, and battling his dominant side to protect those he loves. What was so astounding about his character, was seeing the inner battle that wages inside him. We see his strength and determination and what will he has. It was quite a thrill to see different sides to his character.
The Heroine
Janie is a heroine that is sweet and loving and can fight hand to hand if she needs to. She is human, so she doesn’t have certain abilities to help in a fight, but she does have visions and is one of the few people who can enter the dream world. Janie acts like an obedient daughter but in reality she is free-spirited and a fighter. She can be quite mischievous and has this spontaneity, very impulsive at times. Always getting herself into danger without thinking about consequences. But she has a heart of gold, and she will fight for those she loves most. Her character is quite charming, and you can’t help but love her, especially since the whole of the series we have seen her grow up and I loved seeing her as an adult, trying to deal with all the crazy conflicts that are trying to control her.
Plot and Story Line
Marked is the last and final installment in the series, and what a ride, and what a conclusion. Technically there is a novella after this one. But Marked is the final full length novel in the series. I have been looking forward to Janie’s and Zane’s story since we first see them. And of course we have quite a few surprises and conflicts added into the mix that just makes the story even more interesting. This isn’t your average love story, its packed with crazy villains but a couple that surprise you, we see more of the previous characters in the series, and what a romance that is put front and center. There is quite a bit of conflict going against Zane and Janie, and it almost seems impossible for them to reach their HEA. There is quite a bit they have to accomplish and win before they have a hope of a future. We see some questions answered and the series got wrapped up pretty nicely. I loved the conclusion, and seeing Janie finally get her HEA, and what was most interesting about this one was seeing everything fall into place. I enjoyed seeing Zane and Janie fight for one another, in different ways, but they are equally matched and both determined to win the upcoming battles.
The Cover
This is a bit different from the others, I am not sure if I like the color theme, I love pink, but this color just looks a bit out-of-place for me. But I do love the couple pose.
Overall View
Marked is a story that is a must read, for any paranormal romance lover. It’s a story of sacrifice, love and honor. We see a culmination of aspects come together in Marked, and you will be amazed by this authors storytelling capabilities, and being able to write a world that is complex and captivating!! -
*Received an ARC *
So bittersweet. I love this series. One of my favorites. So sad it's over.
The mini epilogues pertaining to all the Kayrs and not just Janie and Zane were way too fast paced but they were just epilogue and glimpses into the future so I can understand why they were short and fast paced. Just made me sad that I was leaving the world soon.
Such a great series that I need in autographed paperback versions of.
ETA: I always knew it was going to be an ending between Zane and Kalin as her two choices but I still can't believe what happened to them. It wasn't something I saw coming. -
Hmmmmm it was a nice end of the story. I am glad I finished this series. I loved the plot even though I truly disliked a lot of people here as a whole. Thank goodness that I loved Zane and was so happy to finally meet him. He showed us that life is not as simple as black and white, that most of the times we need to make impossible decisions in the name of loyalty and family, and that love is indeed powerful.
I don't know what's up with this author but one constant think I disliked about the series is how easy the heroine's hit their partners. For me it makes no sense to beat each other when you can win a fight in many different directions without being violent. But okay.
Even though I knew Kalin to be a serial killer who loved to hunt and kill woman, I felt sorry for the guy in the end. It has got to be difficult to grow up to be evil. -
FAN-FREAKING-TASTIC!
5 MASSIVE stars
OMG, Rebecca Zanetti, you sure know how to finish off a series! I can’t say too much about this book without it being spoilery for others in the series, but it’s an absolutely sensational ride and I loved every minute of it!
The first thing I will say is please, please, please read these books in order! There are full length novels as well as novellas, and while each book focusses on a different couple, they each build upon a central story that has been building to this book, and OMG, it’s been an amazing journey. All of the wondering and questions and predictions – everything was answered, and it was done in a way that had my heart pounding pretty much all the way through.
Janie and Zane’s time has finally come, and it was everything that I wanted. We finally find out who (and what) Zane is, and we finally learn just what is so special about these two characters that the whole series has been building up to their story.“Your path isn’t an easy one, sweetheart. But it might just end up being spectacular.”
I started this book with a whole lot of love for Janie and Zane, and I was especially excited to finally get deep inside the heads of these two characters. They were first introduced as children in book 1, and we have watched the dynamic between them shift again and again as them grew up. I loved the opportunity to see how the events of the series have impacted on them, and how they really feel about the prophecies over their lives. And, of course, their long-awaited love story was well worth the wait.
There is so much going on in this book, but Zanetti gives Janie and Zane the time that they need to develop as a couple. Theirs is a unique situation, and deserves a lot of book time dedicated to sorting their mess and moving forward, and I was thrilled with the amount of detail that we got – from fighting, to making up and figuring out how they work together and all of the swoony, romantic and passionate moments that go along with that. It was sensational!“You’ve been mine your entire life, and I’m tired of waiting.”
And the romance is woven really well into everything else that’s going on, and holy hell, there’s a lot going on!!! The overarching story arcs continue, but with twists and turns that I never saw coming, and it’s blended brilliantly with new plotlines developing throughout the book. Full of heart-stopping moments, big surprises, heaps of action and a whole heap of emotion, I was enthralled from start to finish as all hell breaks loose and our beloved characters have to band together to fight like they never have before.
I loved how involved all of the characters were – those that we have come to know and love throughout the series, as well as some newly introduced superstars. And I loved that we got to check in with each of the other couples in the family (from their POV) in the future – absolutely beautiful!
I laughed, I cried and I swooned, and my heart was pounding at all of the twists, turns and action. There are moments where my heart was breaking, and that ending had me grinning like a loon with happy tears streaming down my face.“I’ve loved you every second of this life, and if I died, I’d love you every second of the next.”
I love this series! I have loved each of the books individually, and overall as a series, it’s definitely going down as an all-time favourite. I’m beyond excited that there is more to come, and I can’t wait to dive into the spin off series The Realm Enforcers.
I highly recommend this series to anybody who loves sexy, funny and action packed paranormal romance featuring kickass alphas and strong and feisty heroines, and I look forward to many rereads in the future.
5 sensational stars.

5 Beautiful Finale STARS!!!!★★★★★
I've been waiting so long for Janie and Zane's book, I almost forgot their whole story and all the characters in this series...but oh what a book to have me reminded...
This was exactly how I wanted Janie and Zane's romance to be. I just knew Zane was not at all that sweet boy he projected himself to be for Janie's sake but had to be for her too... And how they react to each other was pure combustible FATE!!!
That's how Rebecca Zanetti writes her couples.. you feel how they are meant to be, you feel their pain at just the thought of them losing the other and you feel their joy when they overcome all odds and get their HEA. And that's another thumbs up for this finale...
She wrote perfect and sweet epilogues for all the couples!!! Reader Bonus!!!
I cried my eyes out after realizing that this was the end of this story arc...
And then.... the spin-off series was revealed... well sort of, but whatever. I'm just happy it isn't the absolute end.. -

Finally we get Janie and Zane!
Talk about turning up the heat.
Okay, this became new favorite of the series.
The suspense was so intense I couldn't stop reading.
Throughout the series we have watched Zane & Janie grow up.
Meeting in her dream world.
Everyone comes together in this one for the big showdown.
It was definitely an edge of your seat read.
Of course Jannie & Zane have the front and center.
Scorching hot chemistry that has been brewing for over a decade in their world.
This was a fanTabUlous read.
I loved every moment.
And I recently found out it is
Not The End
Of
Dark Protectors!
There is a Book God! -

I loved it! Most of the current PNR stuff is crap, but not this one!
I'm so sad to see this series come to an end, although I do look forward to Kell's book. The beginning hooked me right away. I was always wondering what Zane was besides vampire. I had my suspicions since the second or third book, and it turned out that I was right. The ending was a little.fast paced. Everything was shoved in there so we really didn't get to see much of Janie and Zane.
But anyways, it was a good ending to a fantastic series, and it left me wanting to start the spin-off ASAP. Oh, and btw, I rarely read spin offs but I will read this one.
So would I recommend this to a friend? You betcha. -
I thought Jase's story was my favourite of the series but after reading this I've changed my mind, this now firmly holds that position!
As in all the previous stories we got plenty of action and finally all the answers to questions collected over the series. The connection between Jane & Zane had been building every time they met in the dream world and was blazing by the time they finally met in person. Although the epilogue was a surprise it kinda made sense and left us thinking about the probable future of the Realm.
A really great story that had a bitter sweet feel because although I loved it I was sad to come to the end of the series and say goodbye. -

I loved this book! This is how to successfully wrap up a series instead of dragging it out over multiple books. I appreciated that the author shows that all worlds are finite; instead of writing the same story over and over, it is so refreshing to see that the author had a vision in mind with this series that included an uplifting ending. Janie and Zane had such depth as characters, especially since the reader was introduced to them when they were children, meeting in their dreams. Even the villain, Kalin, had more layers to him than jus as a standard bad guy. We also knew him from a teen and witnessed his attachment issues involving being abandon by his mother, who killed herself the day after his brth because she hated being a Kurjan mate.
These are more than one-dimensional characters blindly following fate. Janie and Zane’s mating united all the factions in the Realm, bring the warring demons into the fold was the perfect solution for peace. My suspicion of Zane’s non-vampire side turned out to be what I thought, there had to be a way to make peace with a foe and Zane and Janie would be key to bringing about peace. Learning Zane’s identity was a twist that brought the plot full circle. Zane was an alpha, sweet, loyal, and, like all the alpha males in this series, showed by his actions that he would give his own life for his mate. Even Kalin, the Kurjan Butcher, had enough humanity in him to put his life on the line for another.
Janie was a wonderful, inspiring heroine. Powerful in her own right, she did not have a bitchy, spoiled, entitled attitude. She thought before acting and took her family and friends into the equation while making decisions that could adversely affect the Realm. Although Zane was a protective alpha, he and Janie respected each other and the basis of their relationship was trust. This could be because both Janie and Zane had family members that they loved and who loved them, they were not narcissist who only thought of themselves and want they wanted.
I loved the wonderful epilog that gave the reader a glimpse into the other couples, their children, pregnancies, and a stronger Realm. I was more than pleased with the final book in this series and will leave it right here with Janie and Zane’s book. The Dark Protectors have been, for the most part, a fun read. Although I am curious about the upcoming novella “Talen,” I have no interest in reading the spin-off series about the realm enforcers of male witches. This series was a wonderful way to recuperate from surgery and gave me the happy ending that I craved. -
*I will try to avoid spoilers.
Marked by Rebecca Zanetti
What if you were the one human being non human races wanted to get their hands on? Well, that was the rock in a hard place situation Janie Kayrs was in.
Janie Kayrs was a well trained human with the gift of visions. Her mother a human, her adopted father, a vampire and the only father she had ever known.
For years Janie had visions of peace talks. So, when it came to be her reality she knew she had to attend. However, the fact that no visions had extended past the peace talks made her nervous and afraid but she was determined for the nearly two decade war among the races to end.
The key players in attendance were Dage, the king of the Realm, Vivian Northcutt, the leader of the witches, Kalin, the current leader of the Kurjans, Suri the demon leader and his nephew, Zane.
Zane was a demon, vampire, shifter mix who was known to many as The Ghost.
Zane and Janie were childhood friends since she was five years old. The two had met in dream worlds her entire life. So, you can imagine her shock when he entered the room.
As things were under way the key players voiced their demands. Demands starting boiling when one of Kalin's demands was access to Janie. However, it was no secret that Kalin wanted to mate with Janie.
When Suri was finished making his demands Zane surprisingly stood up and made demands of his own, that there will no Kurjan access to Janie and that although she will have choice over her own destiny she will be his.
Janie becoming his is easier said than done. Janie maybe human but she is a wild card who may need some convincing and tough love if he even has a shot with Janie and a chance to right wrongs.
Only time will tell if there is any hope.
I LOVED THIS BOOK!!! The book was action packed from start to finish! It kept me needing to read more!

This is the last book in the Dark Protectors' Series by Ms. Zanetti. I could hardly wait to read Janie and Zane's story. We've been seeing bits and pieces of it throughout the series and this book is the climax the arc. And what a climax it was! We got to see all the characters from the previous books. Everyone had a role to fill, and they did it marvelously.
While I had my guess about who, and what, Zane would be, Ms. Zanetti kept the twists and turns coming. This was one continuous adventure. I am very impressed how she tied things up. I was left feeling satisfied, especially with all the little insights into our favorite couples the epilogue gave us. And then she gave us a hint for maybe another book later on! Ah, good times.
There was humor, pages of intensity, moments of joy, paragraphs of fear...and it was all twisted up in a wonderful reading package. I read it in one sitting. Yes, it was that good. We have all been waiting for the culmination of the story, and it was worth the wait.
But then she was mean. After the end of Marked, she gives us a teaser for her next series, The Realm Enforcers. I need it NOW!
I highly recommend this book. In fact, you really can't go wrong with any of her series. Yes, she's that good.
*Thank you, Netgalley and Kensington, for the opportunity to read Marked. -
I loved everything about this series and to wrap it up with Janie and Zane's story was perfect. Throughout the series we have watched Janie grow up with Zane and her "imaginary" best friend. While you always suspect that these two will get together when we finally learn more about Zane and where he comes from, that result seems highly unlikely. Janie has been fated to change the world, for good or evil, since she was born. With each species pursuing her for their own purpose she finally finds safety in the mostly unlikely of places.
I would highly recommend this series to PNR fans.
