  A young boy attends a football game, then says goodnight to everyone and everything involved.
  
  The pictures in this book are bold, bright, and colorful. They capture the sights and sounds of a lively football game, showing everything from cheerleaders to players on the field to fans in the stands. The characters depicted in the images are diverse in race, gender, and overall appearance. Many of the illustrations capture unique points of view. The reader is able to see the football up close, to look up from the center of a huddle, and to catch a glimpse behind the counter at the concession stand. The bright lights of the stadium and the glow of the moon add to the overall visual appeal of the images. Young children will be easily drawn to the book based on the illustrations alone.
  
  Though the rhyming text initially suggests that this might be a good read-aloud, the rhythm of some of the lines, particularly in the second half of the story, cause it to fall flat. I read the book aloud twice, and both times, I found myself tripping in certain places where the number of syllables in a given word or phrase didn’t match the expected rhythm. There is also an abrupt shift in the narration which was quite jarring. One minute, the story narrates the events of the game. The next, it launches into a litany of good nights to everyone from fans to coaches. Though this book would theoretically suit a sports-themed story time, I wouldn’t use it because the writing just isn’t strong enough.
  
  Kids are desperate for more sports picture books, and Sports Illustrated Kids is a known entity, so this book is likely to get attention with very little promotion from librarians and booksellers. Readers who have enjoyed Dino-Football will have a similar reading experience with this book.

  A boy spends a night under the bright lights, watching football with his family. He enjoys the roar of the crowds, the action on the field, and the overall experience. At the end, he says goodbye to all of his memories of the night. It's football season at its finest.
  
  I loved this little book. As the mother of a football player, I felt the moments this young man felt. I love a good football game under the night sky. During football season, Friday nights are the highlight of the week. This book had excellent, bright, colorful illustrations. The story was told in rhyme. It would appeal to both boys and girls. The book is short enough to be read during storytime and long enough to tell the complete story. It would go great with a sports theme. Overall, I gave it five stars. The author did an excellent job.

  Five stars even though I am not wild about the illustrations.
  Why? Because I am a HUGE football fan and the football references were worked in perfectly to a sing-songy, goodnight rhyme. It wasn't cheesy at all (unless you include my huge smile). And best of all, it's a very diverse cast of characters, focusing on an African American family.
  I love this. I want one for my personal collection!

  This is probably the best explanations of this sport to young listeners and readers. The game is seen through the eyes of a young boy. Basic football terms should help young ones to understand the game.

  I really wanted to like this one, but it fell flat for me.
  
  I liked that it was a children's book incorporating sports. The illustrations were great. And I noticed right away that it portrayed people of multiple races.
  
  But, it just didn't work. The rhyming gets tricky and rocky, and I didn't like the transition in the story. The first have is all about football and plays and then it turns into saying goodnight to a bunch of football stuff. I think it would have been better if there was just one goodnight at the end, and it simply showed the stadium and stands and what not shutting down.

  The kid LOVES this book! Football is one of her favorite things and so is the color orange and this book has both of those. It's fun to read aloud although the flow can get a little muddled sometimes but all in all, this is one that will end up on our shelves at some point.

  I LOVE football! No matter if it is the middle of summer. There are only 81 days until the first kick off of the season between the Baltimore Ravens and the Denver Broncos. Now, I have to admit I am excited once football seasons starts, but I am planning to enjoy my summer before the start of football. How am I going to do that you may ask? By reading...about football. No, not everything I read this summer will be about football, but it is a great way to enjoy the sport before the season starts.
  
  For a young football fan, this is a wonderful bedtime story that combines the excitement of the first game of the season with an ending reminiscent of the classic bedtime story for which the title is derived, Goodnight Moon. This is not your run of the mill knock-off like we have seen so many of in recent years. The rhyming text and very colorful illustrations have been well thought out and planned for young fans.
  
  This book is the second book in the Sports Illustrated Kids series of bedtime stories. Goodnight Baseball was release in September 2013 and this book will be released in August of 2014. Michael Dahl is no stranger to children's books. He has written a number of books for the Hello Genius series which include Duck Goes Potty, Little Elephant Listens, and Mouse Says Sorry. In fact he has written a number of wonderful non-fiction books for Capstone including, On the Launch Pad, Pull, Lift, Lower, and Toasty Toes: Counting by Tens.
  
  For all young sports fans, I believe this will be a wonderful addition to the family library as well as a favorite book to check out from the local library. The illustrations are very colorful (Even if the burnt orange of the University of Texas is used for the "Grizzly" team colors in the book. I personally think Texas Christian University purple would have been a much better choice!). The end pages show the yard lines of the football field and begin and end the book very nicely. One of my favorite bedtime stories of 2014.

  I think lots of kids and parents will love the concept of a picture book that combines football and bedtime. The illustrations are bright and show interesting vantage points, such as the page where the reader sees the players' faces in a huddle from inside the circle. The cast of characters is diverse, and they all show good sportsmanship at the end. The text uses several football terms that are supported by the illustrations (except for "possessions") so that young readers with background knowledge of football can use picture clues to decode these words.
  
  The only part that fell flat for me was the meter. The rhythm of this rhyming text will make it a bit tricky as a read-aloud.

  This book is adorable and I will be passing it on to family to read with their young ones. It follows a family as they attend a football game and all the wonders that are there. The colors and pictures are bold and bright to hold the attention of youngsters and the story is cute as it follows the kids leaving the stadium saying goodnight to all of the wonderful things that make up football. Lastly, the story rhymes, making it fun and easy to read aloud.
  
  Being a book for ages 4-8 there isn't much more that I can say about it, but I do believe that your young reader will enjoy learning about football, stadiums, and love for the game thought this book. Very cute!

  This a cute picture book that shows a little boy's love for football and all the fun of going to watch a game with family and friends. With rhyming text and adorable illustrations, it's definitely going to be popular with young football fans and their families. The connection to the classic Goodnight Moon only comes at the end when the little boy is saying goodnight to the stadium and all his football related things before he goes to sleep but it was my favorite part. Definitely one I'd recommend!

  I really really enjoyed the illustration since I know nothing about football. :D And somehow I really loved the way the author saying goodnight to everything and everyone to end the story. How peaceful it felt at last when I saw the boy sleeps hugging the ball. :)

  (i don't see a kindle option again, i did read it on my kindle, just saying!!) i will say that baseball is my favorite sport if i have to pick one ...but these books if you are picking a fave from them ... "Goodnight Football" and "Goodnight Hockey" the illustrations are so much cooler in them verses the baseball one .. just saying .. maybe it is the colors used or pictures displayed and whatnot??! so amazing either way ... well done!

  Goodnight Football is a great book for fans of all ages who enjoy all aspects of football. It allows fans to see the the game for all areas, from the players, fans and concessions stands. It shows the reader what the game of football is all about, the passion of the players and the fans. I think this is a great book for parents of kids who love football and want to read about it.
