A Fire in the Sunset is a gorgeous collection of poems written over the span of a decade. In it Mikheyev explores themes of romantic love and seduction. His poetry is rich in sensuality and deep in feeling. He writes as one haunted by time, clocks, seasons—as though every moment is sacred, and every romance is once-in-a-lifetime. He plumbs the depths of the present, tenderly cradling it in his hands, before it disappears forever. Earthy, vibrant, and swooning. This is a beautifully written collection of romantic poems you do not want to miss.

A perfect gift for anniversaries, romantic occasions, couples in love, and Valentine's Day.

A Fire in the Sunset: A Decade of Love Poems Reviews

This was such a beautiful book. Love and poetry are a couple as old as time, but Moses Yuriyvich Mikheyev's collections of poems stand out as a collage of love's progression over a decade. Portraying love is difficult to show in one story, but Mikheyev's choice to show

I'll admit, that the shape of some of the poems through me and felt a bit disorientating, but perhaps that's why A Fire in the Sunset stands out because love is messy, chaotic and beautiful. If you love poetry and want to see the growth of love on paper, then this collection is for you.

Thank you, NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for sending me an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Wonderful collection of poetry. This collection evoked so many emotions while reading. I felt connected to work on a visceral level throughout. I highly recommend for fans of Rupi Kaur or Amanda Lovelace. Although slightly different in style, I believe the reader would be able to connect with this work on the same level as the aforementioned poets.

“Sometimes I touch my skin and wonder if the past is all there ever was.”

Thank you NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for providing me with an eARC to review! I was in the mood for some light poetry today, and when I came across A Fire in the Sunset by Moses Yuriyvich Mikheyev on NetGalley thinking it would be a ‘light’ collection of poems on love, I immediately got to reading.

Mikheyev’s pen is stunningly beautiful; the imagery, the metaphors, the lines that just flow - it truly took me by surprise. I couldn’t put this down and finished it in one sitting. But one thing I was wrong about was thinking this would be ‘light.’ A Fire in the Sunset was anything but light. The collection explores love, and the loss of it, and I don’t think I was ready for just how much it would tug at my heartstrings. Every poem in the collection was a standout in its own right, and yet the ones that truly hit me hard were the ones on loves lost, particularly the ones quoted. The yearning within these (digital) pages was palpable. If you’re in the mood for poetry that you can feel in your soul, pick this up.

“I sometimes dream of him, but the dreams have locks. My keys are now blunt too.”

    This was a beautiful read.

This is a nice collection of poems mostly about love and seduction written over a decade.

I loved how they are written, some parts might made me feel cringe but most of the poems I really liked which was unexpected because when it comes to poems I'm kind of choosy. It takes me a while to actually start liking the prose and rhythm , but with this collection from the very first page I had started with a feeling that this is going to be good and indeed it was.

Some of my favourite parts from the collection

"Our love has wrinkles as old as the Earth."

"Ever since you left the ocean has lost its shimmer And the sky was rolled up and carted away".

Your rounded cheeks are goblets of rosy wine, and your skin is perfumed with the magic of a hundred vineyards.

It’s a cruel thing. Time is. It takes what it cannot give back.

—for I’d rather cradle your face in my hands between a thousand constellations between red rose and iron thorn than miss you so.

Moonlight washing up against our fragile bodies Stars collapsing from eager expectation.

If only love were a place one could stay.

Your love is thievery—   stealing dreams from out of the night sky

Sometimes I touch my skin and wonder if the past is all there ever was.

“I have fallen in love many times, many times
    and always with you”

This collection of poems include many beautiful verses. I'm always in the look for poetry that moves me and makes me feel something and the author achieved this with some of his poems.

To be honest, this is the first time I have read a collection of poems completely in English and I loved the experience.

The author shows us trough his poems what love is and feels, leaving us with a sparkle of newfound hope and trust in that emotion.

Thanks to BookSirens for the digital copy of the book🫶🏻

i have been on a poetry reading spree and i liked this collection of poems. the style of the poems wasn’t really my cup of tea, but i still enjoyed it. my favorite parts were the dedication and this line:

    “Our love has wrinkles
    as old as the Earth.”

thank you netgalley for a copy of this.

Thank you to NetGalley and the author for an eARC.

It was good for modern day poetry. These days that’s as good as it’s going to be when it comes to poetry.

“ Sometimes I touch my skin and wonder if the past is all there ever was”

This book touched so many parts of my heart in beautiful and heartbreaking ways. The story of love across time that spread across each verse pushed me to reflect deeper on my own experiences.

While the style may differ slightly from Rupi Kaur, I firmly believe that readers will find themselves just as captivated by this collection. The themes explored and the skillful execution of each poem ensure that the emotional impact remains just as potent.
This poetry collection is truly remarkable, evoking a myriad of emotions as I delved into its pages. Each piece resonated with me on a deeply visceral level, creating a profound connection to the work as a whole. I highly recommend this collection to anyone seeking poetry that speaks to the soul. It is a testament to the power of words to evoke profound emotions and forge connections with readers.

I often find that romantic poetry falls into one of two categories. 1) overly dramatic sophomoric whining or 2) unexplored vague notions. I was very pleased to find that “A Fire in the Sunset” was neither of these.

The poems in this book were maturely written and the stories and moments and imagery explored in them is excavated in a lot of unique ways. I appreciated that each poem not only stood strong on its own, but they also flowed smoothly from one to another so that the collection read more like one story made of small pieces.

There’s something beautifully nostalgic about the writing that draws me back to reading love stories like Song of Solomon or poetry from Catherynne Valente, Margarita Engle, and Pablo Neruda. A lyrical sort of style that feels aged and thoughtful, somehow without dragging or lingering too long in a moment.

The one thing that frustrated me was that in some poems, sometimes in the middle of a particularly lovely verse, the author would make a reference to something modern or use a turn of phrase that didn’t fit well with the style of the poetry. One of those things where it didn’t turn me off from reading but it felt jarring in the moment and I wished they’d been edited out.

Overall though, a surprisingly lovely read.

ARC provided by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

A Fire in the Sunset is a collection of poems that “explores themes of romantic love and seduction” (this coming from the synopsis).

I enjoyed the stylistic look of some of the poems, the author choosing to make them appear different than then just a box of text.

Some of the poems were lovely to read, but the collection as a whole would probably be better suited to people who enjoy the theme of the poems themselves, I.e. romantic love and seduction, and I am not really one of those people. However, I agree with the description that it would be good as a gift for Valentine’s Day or an anniversary.

Unfortunately, many of the poems (though not all) were reminiscent of the trend in poetry over the last decade where the author will write a handful of words with no flow or direction, separate them into two or three lines by random hits of the return button, and call that poetry, while simultaneously wasting almost an entire page.

    All in all, not terrible.

  • Lisa Konet

I love how poetry is so unique and personal to each person who does it. It can be painful. It can be hopeful. It can be inquisitive. And also everything in between.

The passages I enjoy the most were:

"Our love is a Time Machine, neither here nor there- a breaking in the heart
    yet to happen"

    "Love, a fragmented thing-
    begins mid-sentence
    and ends with
    the unmovable silence of a
    period" (tear)

"Desire I've dreamt ten thousand times
    But not enough"

"It's a cruel thing. TIme is.
It takes what it cannot give back." (Profound AF)

    "Between your legs
    I press my tongue
    and watch your
    leaves change color" (WOW)

I very appreciated a direct copy of this from Moses Mikheyev in exchange for a review. I was deepy moved by these poems and it was such a change from his romance and science fiction that I have enjoyed previously. These poems inspired me to get back to me own poetry!

    Thank you Moses!

    Highly recommended collection of poems!

I am the number one defender of insta poetries. While people may not consider this genre as "real," I do think that it does have it's own kind of magic.

This poetry book though, wasn't good.

I don't have a problem with the poetry itself, some of them were masterfully penned and visualized. But I do think that this book could've used some topic demarcation. For example, in one segment the poet was talking about time and how one never has enough of it, and in the next line switched over to love without making any kind of interlink between the two. Many poetries came off of as mere strings of words rather than actual poetry.

Some poetries were too vague to make sense of :

you walk in/barely shouldering a thin-strapped dress/ your long legs step over/ years and years /of black and white

This may seem out of context but believe me it didn't make sense in the book as well.

In the end this poetry book wasn't for me.

Thanks to BookSirens for the ARC :)

🖇️THOUGHTS: Absolutely beautiful and completely romantic. I'm pretty sure it's the first time (or one of the first) that I read male-written poetry, and I really liked it, though I still prefer female-written. Still, I think that Moses has a really pretty style, full of metaphors and meaningful phrases. I highlighted almost every poem, at least a little part. My only criticism is the edition (I'm quite certain that it's only the digital one) is awfully divided and that confused me when I was reading, I couldn't distinguish when a text ended and when another one began. Nevertheless, it's a beautiful book and it's always a pleasure to read poetry❤️‍🩹. Thanks to the author and BookSirens for trusting me🫶🏻.

This poetry collection exudes a theme of love, with the author expressing admiration and yearning for their beloved in unique ways throughout the pages. The work features passages that vividly depict various images, utilizing interesting metaphors, albeit with some recurring themes. Notably, the cosmic and summer imagery, as well as depictions of cityscapes and wineries, Fortunately, the coherence throughout the book prevents it from becoming monotonous.

Regrettably, the initial pages fail to capture its own strength with its two-word "poem." In another instance, page 44 contained a mere four lines, and page 46 only three. This collection would have benefited from appropriate length and the inclusion of proper titles.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing the eARC in exchange for this review.

I received an ARC of this collection of poetry through BookSirens, and here is my honest review. Thank you to BookSirens for the opportunity!

This is a GORGEOUS collection of love poems by Moses Yuriyvich Mikheyev - a collection spanning young love, obsession, travel, breakups, and finally the passing of time and the scars it leaves on us all. There are so many witty turns of phrases that hit you right in the stomach as you read them, sometimes even uttering an audible "Oh!". There are motifs of nature, mythology, and religion all entwined in the poems in an attempt to describe the feelings that love and lust echo in us. There are multiple poems that I want to share with my partner and fellow writer friends. I definitely think this collection is a must read for all of the poets and lovers out there.

  • Emily Mohammadi

A Fire in the Sunset is a collection of poetry that is centered around love. Mikheyev employs a writing style that strongly evokes free-form and trendy poetry. If you appreciate a contemporary poetic style reminiscent of Rupi Kaur or Tumblr poetry, this book may align with your preferences. While it didn't resonate with my personal taste in poetry, I believe there is an audience for it among fans of modern poetic expressions. My 2 star rating reflects my subjective evaluation based on the stylistic choices that didn't quite resonate with me personally.

Thank you to NetGalley, Moses Yuriyvich Mikheyev, and BooksGoSocial for providing me with this ARC. Although this book was provided, all opinions are my own.

You know how you have some friends who sit down at the table with you and you look up and they already finished their meal? Well, that’s how this felt. I wanted it to be longer! But I get that poetry is meant to pack a punch in fewer sentences. I enjoyed the Paris poem the most. Very beautiful and I felt that his inner imagination was especially brought to life. Not only did I feel like I was back in Paris, but I felt connection. To the vibrating city of Paris, we’re all just passing humans. Endless streams of life coming and going. But to me, that brief vibration is all I have, and it changes me forever. - how I interpreted & experienced it!

    Thoughts:
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Most of these poems were beautiful, showing the reality of having a crush, young love, infatuation and heartbreak. However, I did have a major problem with one poem as the lines about changing postcodes to stay near someone and call the cops I’ll love you till they arrive while calling the woman cruel romanticises stalking and harassment which is already a crime often not taken seriously enough nevermind trying to portray it as loving and acceptable.

    Favourite Quote:
"It's a cruel thing. Time is.
It takes what it cannot give back"

  • Dora Okeyo

I love poetry and this year my goal is to read at least one collection/book per month and the sensuality of the prose here made me wonder why I have never come across anyone speak of love, intimacy, longing, despair, hope like the author does. Who likens their love to the age of earth? Who talks of their heart breaking to pieces to be scattered all over time, over centuries?
This was a beautiful , short and moving collection. I will admit my heart was swayed.
    Thanks Netgalley for the eARC.

  • Matteja LV

I liked the poems... Since english isn't my first language they were really fluid and easy to understand.
I liked the romance theme in poetry. Book is shorter so it can be read really quickly.

And it has very attractive cover.

    One part of the poem:
"Your love is thievery— stealing dreams from out of the night sky."

Thanks to Netgalley, I received ARC copy. All opinions are my own.

  • Charmi Zielinski

This was beautiful. Pages and pages of admiration and love. This book reminds me about what poetry is, what it can do, how it can make people feel. It was written well, and made me feel all the love and affection that went into this book, and the muse behind it all.

A quick read; but well worth it.

Poetry is a way of expression and love is hard to write into words but the author took his words and gave us a world of love. I absolutely adore poetry and this collection was so beautiful and heartwarming. I would read these poems over and over!

Poetry is hard to master but the author for sure has gifts in his writing. I’m very grateful I was able to read such beautiful work.

  • Suzanne Ho

These poem tells a love story with deep emotions and affections, lots of metaphors used which I liked. However, it wasn't as gripping so I rated it average.
