This book is a beautiful companion to the film. You really need to watch the movie though, otherwise it could just come across as somebody's photobook made on a Mac.

The conversations at the end with Yvon and Doug are great. Otherwise, the text is pretty sparse because the pictures say everything.

    Get lost in their trip.

I want to learn how to make a living surfing and taking pictures and protecting the environment and being a hippie!

I'm a huge fan of Yvon Choinard and Patagonia company. I had also seen this documentary a couple years ago and was incredibly inspired by it. I imagined the book wouldn't be much more than the documentary in pictures, but I was quite surprised to find the book provided a lot of context for the adventure that was not covered in the film. It was great for the stories to be accompanied by some incredible photographs. Yvon and Doug's personalities really leap off the page through their history, adventures, and sense of humor.

If you're inspired by travel, conservation efforts, and adventure, go watch the documentary, and then follow it up with this book.

Interesting perspective. Not unlike Yvon's book on business his expectations for like are not always grounded in most people's reality. That said if we always wrote from the common denominator there would be nothing to strive for. From that view point it's a wonderful read to dream to.

    Watch the movie!
