reading this was truly a singular experience, when i tell u this is top-notch genre-bending entertainment!!! despite the ridiculousness of it all there were some elements that gave it that bit of urgency and seriousness i wasn't expecting at all and, not to spoil too much, vernita really is a great unreliable narrator!! if quan millz has no fans, i'm dead because ms vernita washington is my girl and i'll keep her in my thoughts for a long time!!!!!!!

If David Fincher and Satoshi Kon teamed up to write a thrilling, mind-bending blaxploitation novel, they probably would have come up with this.

    Quan Millz…baby are you ok?

This was something else!!! If you need a lot of good laughs and want to clutch your imaginary pearls then this is the read for you! Mrs. Vernita was wild!!! I kinda want to be like her when I get older minus the killing lol. Colvin was a hot mess! He just couldn’t leave well enough alone. The ending was such a surprise. There were lots of typos but I knew what Quan meant lol. I need this made into a Tubi movie right now!!!!

Quan Millz has a new fan in me. This was a wild ass ride. It had me laughing out loud because of how absurd it is and that ending???? Wooooo. Literary gold. Fun and fantastic read.

this crazy ass book… I can barely put into words what I feel about it.

Mrs Vernita has become a household legend in the groupchat, her horndog-hater ways will stick with me for a long while.

This book was HILARIOUS! Ive never read a comedic book like this before so the vibe was very new to me. I’m used to reading serious and strong natured books, but every other page had me laughing so hard and the writing was good. You GET IT MS VERNITA ERNESTINE WASHINGTON!!!

OH MY GOD! Ratchet, raunchy and hilariously clever. Everybody ain’t shit as fuck, and it’s a hot mess of “WHAT IS GOING ON???” the deeper you get into it. I totally didn’t realize it was also a murder mystery and didn’t look at the chapter titles before reading it was even funnier!

No regrets on this one, my only off-putting comment about it is the grammatical errors… It really doesn’t bother me a few times but towards the end it makes me wonder if editors were like “fuck that” 😂

Ms. Vernita don’t give a damn and I have nothing but respect for most of her choices, given how unserious her character is. If you like ghetto comedic stereotypes you’ll catch quite a few laughs like I certainly did!

This finale was crucial and I almost did not give it a full five stars because-- was any of this even real for Vernita?

The book was a rollercoaster ride for me and it had all the wonderful ingredients to make me turn pages faster and faster. Vernita's sexcapades comes to a grinding halt when she realizes she is losing her mind...or is she? I don't know, but I think it is refreshing to have Detective Colvin's POV up in this one because I needed grounding. However, in many ways he could seem unreliable too.

Vernita did not know whether she was coming or going and it was legit scary. This is what bumped the book up five stars. Somehow, someway, the story turns suspenseful and Vernita at the center of a widescale Criminal Minds type of scene.

On a more deeper note, the subject of mental illness, hospital malpractice and dark secrets plays out here and some scenarios were just too much for me, I had to inhale and exhale.

    Great storytelling here.

this was the most mind-blowing, amazing, thought provoking book ever… i cannot believe quan millz was born in our timeline, from this alone— you’d think they were Shakespeare or Jane Austen, but no.. they’re a master in of itself with the utmost expertise. when i first looked at the book i was blessed by the title of ‘Old Thot Next Door’ a tear immediately went down my leg in amazement as i felt a growing sensation in my stomach as my eyes went wide with desire. this feeling was growing more as I read chapter-by-chapter. A tear was brought to my eyes as i soon read further, congratulating quan millz’s mom for taking those backshots and doing it raw so our lord and savior quan millz was born and soon, would create this masterpiece. words cannot express how much i love this book, my heart fluttered with joy and my eyes rolled back in pleasure with every word. thank you, quan millz..🩷

it's American Psycho if it was from the perspective of a hateful older black woman. It is so dialogue heavy that it is almost nauseating. some of the worst writing I have ever seen. Overly long. 0.5/5

Wowza! I read this out of the pure meme-ness I saw from IG and it was HILARIOUS and GREAT! Omg, This book needs to turn into a movie. It was that wild. You think it's gonna be a funny smut romance book but it turns into a suspenseful thriller.

I recommend this book, but recommend you get it on Audiobook. Karrma who narrates it, gives live to Vernita and really did an amazing job.

Vernita is a spry old woman who was making up for her dull life before her husband past. Now she's living her best life and getting some d**K. lmao. I am not kidding when I say Vernita is willlld. Things begin to start to change when she is diagnosed with a tumor in her head. However, this starts a chain reaction which you go down a rabbit hole storyline.

Definitely reccomend this book, It's very graphic and does go into detail so be prepared and know I warned you.lol.

This book had many grammar errors, and it really didn't make sense to me 😭, however, her being an old "thot" was entertaining at first, but it lost me after certain situations....the storyline was literally all over the place and just huh but w.e on to my next

Este libro es increíble, es súper sencillo de leer por si queréis empezar a leer en inglés, es súper divertido, me he echado unas risas que flipas, amo a la señora y a Markell. Viva el autor y que escriba más.

What in the hell was that

  • Doretha Bradley

    Yes, yes, yes!

Baby!!! Don't mess with Ms. Vernita, she's a true boss bi#ch!!! I'm so happy Mike Colvin was destroyed before he fell by Vernita's hand. His treatment of her was horrendous! Regardless of what she may have done, being 76 years of age, she should have been treated with some degree of respect. I don't feel bad for Alice, Clarence, Sharday, Percy or Markell.... They played their parts and got dealt with. On more than one level, they all deserved their fates! Long, live Vernita, forget her being old, she's the genius thot next door! Excellent series.

  • Nany

    It was so funny 😭

Do you ever just read a book and go “What the fuck?”

That’s what Old Thot Next Door is!

To be honest, I don’t normally read novels written like this. I was sent a video from Tiktok of a dude reading the titles to this novel. I was laughing so hard I nearly cried. I’ve been told to not judge a book by its cover before. However it’s necessary in this case. I think the cover sets a great expectation of what you’re getting into here.

Vernita Washington is a 76 year old woman who enjoys “getting her fuck on.” I think that alone is an inspiration to any older lady out there who feels like sex at her age isn’t appropriate. All of us, no matter the stage of adulthood, can take a few lessons from Vernita. You are never too old to be sexy!

Plot wise: this book is something special. You won’t see anything coming because it’s so far left field. It’s also an absolute train wreck. It’s so bad it’s fascinating. I just couldn’t stop reading. The pacing is awful but I don’t think that this content was written to appeal to an audience that is tearing it apart for its meaningful plot and writing. That being said, it still earns a 5 stars from me.

My five star rating is entirely attributed to this books ability to keep me on my toes and make me ask myself “what happens next?” It also made me laugh nearly every page turn. It was extraordinarily funny in a way that was crude and unusual.

Give it a chance. It’s not going to wow you similar to books like The Odyssey but it’s definitely going to make you say wow just the same.

    OMG MS VERNITA

The story definitely fit the title. This book had me shaking my head and laughing at this 76 yr old lady getting her groove on. She loved her some younger men. Ms. Vernita was one horny freak but at the same time she was losing her mind from her medications. I was happy when she finally got the proper help and started doing good. But the twist at the end was what had my jaw dropping when she revealed her secret to Alice about her fiance and Alice dropped a bomb on her about Venita's husband Clarence. Now that the unthinkable has happened to Ms Alice by Vernita, what will Ms Vernita do now. Can't wait to read part 2

  • Doretha Bradley

    Well I'll be....

Vernita is my low key hero!!! She's done things in her seventies that I don't do in my thirties and have never done. Baby she is too hot to trot. Alice is wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong and wrong again because she violated Vernita continuously before she was ever the thot next door! I'm happy that Percy is out of her life because he was no good for her at all. Because of Alice's grimy betrayal, I hope she loses Lamar to Vernita. Lord who would have thought that trifling didn't have an age limit!

This was a... read. I can't even put it in words as it wasn't a bad read. But, I can say the warning before diving into the pages was spot on. It was a hood soap opera to the fullest while still managing to tackle issues such as the fear of dying and the factor of how medicine can affect so many things. Such as personality changes, psychotic changes, and changes that can alter who you are based on the medication. Ms. Vernita was A LOT to take in. It's something to read when just needing a good ol' book full of drama and more.
