Evanston Salt Costs Climbing Reviews
-
As with Arbery's latest play,
Corsicana, with which it has just been published in a dual anthology, this play skitters between realism and a somewhat bizarre non-naturalistic storytelling that is more perplexing than illuminating. This one concerns the denizens of the community company charged with salting the icy roads in Evanston, a somewhat odd choice of subject matter, and one that doesn't always pan out. From the mixed reviews, Arbery's surrealistic touches don't appear to work and he has a tendency when things get rough to just have his character's shout 'Fuck you'' at each other back and forth for a full minute!
