One pair of shoes could change your life...

Ella
I never imagined how true that statement could be. And yet, one pair of shoes changed everything. After falling into the arms of the most handsome, charming man I'd ever met at a Halloween party—and then into his bed—I never imagined I'd see him again. Certainly didn't expect to find myself paired up with him for the rest of the year as my Sorority's new President. And even though that initial spark between us didn't fade, I couldn't let myself be pulled in by his charms. Couldn't let him win.

Cameron
After she fled into the night, leaving only her shoes behind, I thought that was it. One night, no names—just like we agreed. But I couldn't get her face out of my mind. Couldn't stop wanting to be in her enchanting presence. But all I had was a pair of shoes. Until she showed up, newly appointed President of her sorority. And the catch? She had to work with my fraternity—with me, as President. Even if she seemed determined to hold me at arm's length, I knew I'd do whatever it took to win her over. To make her mine.

The first book in a brand new fairytale-inspired college romance series! one night stand, rivals to lovers, sorority/fraternity presidents, boy obsessed

    3.75 out of 5 stars.

I wanted to read a book by this author since last year, but could never find the right time to do so.
Thus, in preparation for one of her upcoming sequel in 'Castleton University' series I'm going to read this, which I'm very excited about since it's a retelling/modern new take on Disney's Cinderella.

at first, book was interesting and i loved little cinderella references author used. 🎬 but with each chapter i was more and more disappointed.

    `✦ ˑ ִֶ 𓂃⊹

the whole story (at least 46%) is basically him following her, saying how perfect she is, and how incredible it would be for them to be together. in straight words!!!!! when she’s thinking “hmm. he doesn’t want me.” uhh. he just said that. straight into your face.

    `✦ ˑ ִֶ 𓂃⊹

their nicknames for each other were my favorite and least favorite parts of the story. preview they met at the party, and decide, why not to have one night stand. but to keep identities hidden they come up with nicknames. she calls him ‘prince charming’ and he calls her ‘princess’. okay. but later, when he gets to know her name, he keeps calling her princess. i read this word for at least 5 times on each page.

    `✦ ˑ ִֶ 𓂃⊹

personally, i was so excited for this book, but after 46% i just couldn’t continue. plain plot, no emotions, no chemistry.

firstly, i would like to thank the author jennifer chipman herself for the arc 🩵 i’ve adored some of her previous works in the past so i was tremendously elated to be given this opportunity by her! (this is me attempting to down play my reaction bcuz i was actively doing cartwheels in my room at 9 in the morning when i received the arc in my inbox)

let’s begin with the darling leads that were ella and cam. they were humorous and wholesome from the very beginning with the playful remarks and slight pokes at each other. the admiration and respect for the other person’s efforts and work did not fray despite the rivalry that was between them. it was something that remained tangible throughout the story.

both ella and cam’s interpersonal relationships had the same aspects and senses that familial bonds would share which, of course, was something that i just loved so, so much! love does not have labels nor restrictions that pertain it from being felt towards someone so being able to read about the variety of it—in a romance novel, no less—was just more than charming.

a not so prince charming was the most comforting and nostalgic book. the little nods to the original tale of cinderella were everything! 🪄🎠📖🏰👠

🤍👑 — firstly i want to thank jennifer for sending me a signed copy but also for having me as a beta reader 🫶 okay on to the review, I absolutely loved this one! It was such a quick read and absolutely adorable. seriously it had me kicking my feet and giggling. CAM IS THE STANDARD (…where can I get me a cam…asking for myself…) this is a spicy (very) fairytale inspired college romance includes a one night stand, a boy obsessed, rivals to lovers (they’re presidents of their sorority&fraternity) so if you like those tropes I def recommend!! there’s also NO third act breakup!! overall I’m obsessed with cam and ella, they’re so adorable and ugh just read it, I can’t wait for the rest of the couples in this interconnected series 🤭 also can we talk about how CUTE THIS COVER IS.

beta read 🤭 (thank u jennifer 💗🫶) , review & rating to come once I read the edited final version but let me just say I LOVE!

Can I just say I absolutely love a Jennifer chipman fluffy ending??? In a not so Prince Charming we have Ella who is majoring in costume design and has a dream to design costumes for broadway while her sister performs. She is a quiet introvert when her sister isn’t encouraging her to go to parties. When she meets our Prince Charming it is an instant spark between them and it’s so cute.

Cameron is our Prince Charming who is also campus royalty and comes from a rich family where his dad has his own law firm. Cameron is going to school to take after his dad in the law firm. Cameron has 3 other friends that are considered campus royalty that I would loveeeeee seperate books for to get to know them!!

This story was such a cute and honestly relatable one that a lot of people experience throughout their college time. I definitely related to Ella’s introverted ways especially with her social battery running low and needing to be alone to recharge and her anxiety which I also suffer from. Also can I just say any man that brushed my hair and feeds me soup while I’m sick is getting a ring from me….

I really enjoyed seeing the characters grow and learn to open up and be vulnerable with each other and others. This was a great book overall and I couldn’t put it down. This is the second book I’ve read from this author and I plan to read so many more. Truly amazing.

Jennifer Chapman's college romance A Not So Prince Charming centers on the romance between Ella Grace, a costume designer, and Cameron Edwards, the president of his fraternity.

Although I understand that this was Cinderella inspired, the amount of Cinderella references throughout the book—especially in the first 10%—was really frustrating. I understood the reference to heels, the nicknames, and even the entire midnight thing, but it was a bit much.

Also, even though I adore the man-obsessed trope, this one seemed so pathetic. Like, the different ways Cam tried to attract Ella's attention were so terrible. Still, I must say that a few of the several things he did to win Ella over were hot and wholesome.

Further, moments in the book's middle seemed to happen quite quickly. The fact that they became too lovey-dovey after meeting at a party only made matters worse. I usually adore when couples are all over each other, but just like the overuse of Cinderella references, their relationship was overdone.

I was looking forward to this book because of the cover and its tropes, but the way the author handled most of the tropes in it detracted from the whole experience.

*Thank you to the author, Jennifer Chapman, for providing me with this e-arc in exchange for an honest review.*

    ✨️ One night Stand

It's obvious how Cam fell madly in love with Ella from the very first night, and I loved the Cinderella reference with Ella forgetting the shoes. He is a perfect book boyfriend. 🥰

It warms the heart to see him taking care of Ella even before they officially become a couple. And I can't forget that our Prince Charming knows how to make his Princess feel good too! 🔥🔥

Ella is an incredible character, and the instant connection between them is just beautiful. Witnessing Ella allow herself to fall in love was truly wonderful.

I had a great time reading this book, and there were several cute moments that left me smiling.

    Highly recommend!

I received an advance copy in exchange for my honest review, but all opinions are my own.

Thank you so much, Jennifer Chipman, for sending me this ARC!

    HAPPY RELEASE DAY!

Jennifer Chipman is the queen of all the fluffy feelings, and A Not So Prince Charming was not an exception.

She captured the essence of Cinderella's tale to tell us the story of Ella, a costume designer, and Cam, the legacy president, spinning it with a modern touch that reminds us we are all princesses in our own fairytale.

The shoes, the midnights, Charming and the Princess and all the swoony moments... A Not So Prince Charming has it all.

I absolutely ADORED this book. This is the perfect fluffy (but spicy!) palette cleanser read. This is a college romance inspired by Cinderella.

A Not So Prince Charming was quite literally, charming. It was incredibly sweet and swoon worthy. I completely binged it in one sitting. Both main characters were super lovable and had me giggling/blushing throughout the whole book.

In this book we follow the stories of Ella and Cameron. Ella is majoring in costume design and Cameron is going towards law and is “campus royalty”. Ella gets drug along to a party where she meets Cameron and there’s an instant spark.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys fluffy and wholesome romances or to someone who is searching for a palette cleanser in between dark romances/high fantasy.

I will forever love Jennifer Chipman’s writing style!!

this was super cute!! kinda cheesy, fairytale romance inspired and i loved it. i don’t think cam has a single flaw tbh everything he says is adorable and hot and a green flag. he’s absolutely obsessed with ella and she’s a really fun main character.

  • laura 🧸

    ---------------

This is an adorable romance inspired by Cinderella, or which one I loved because she is one of my favorite princesses. It really was like reading a modern fairy tale.

Cam and Ella were absolutely adorable. Their relationship was sweet and believable from the moment they met. I loved the brotherhood and sisterhood aspect and the fairy tale twist was a magical touch. They spend some time in an enemies-to-lovers atmosphere, but it's very sweet with a little competition.

I enjoyed that Ella was a strong, independent woman with goals and she never thought about changing those goals for a man. Even when she was madly in love with him. I loved seeing Cam fall so hard and just become obsessed with her. It took a little persuasion for Ella to give him a chance, as she had her fears about a relationship, but he never gave up.

This was such a sweet and lovely story. The couple is solid from the beginning of the book. They are so cute together and Cameron was truly the Prince Charming that everyone wanted in their lives.

This book is spicy, romantic, sweet and addictive. All the characters were adorable and the setting was a unique idea. A university with characters inspired by fairy tales is like watching "A Cinderella Story" but more modern and much cuter in every way.

I am very happy to have received this ARC and grateful to Jennifer for giving me the opportunity to read this wonderful book early 🤍🪞

I was kindly given an arc of this book to read and review and OH MY GOD, I loved it so so much it is now one of my all time faves. I loved the way Ella’s and cams relationship worked and how he didn’t give up on her. They were just ✨chefs kiss✨ and the side characters were so loveable. Also the spice 🥵🫣, I have to say for me it is one of the best books I’ve ever read. There was a perfect mix of everything in this book which I loved. Cameron and Ella were so perfectly written they are my new fave book couple.

I love a good fairytale retelling and I can’t wait for Audrey’s book

If I was in high school/college, I probably would have enjoyed this a lot more. I say that because there was definitely a younger vibe to these personalities minus the smut.

This story was cute, I can't deny that. But this was just a tad too cheesy for me. The writing was good, the overall execution just didn't land for me. I was a big fan of Spookily Yours and I enjoyed her writing style in that. Another cheesy concept, but just done better, in my opinion.

I think this loses major points because of our FMC, Ella. I don't want to go on a rampage but...give me a second while I collect my thoughts.

At first, she appears as this girl who likes to do her own thing, doesn't want to fall in love with the wrong guy again, and just wants to be the wallflower compared to her twin sister. I loved that. She was just doing her own thing. Cool. What I didn't realize was how insecure and needy she would soon become. I get it, she got her heart broken and can't easily trust. I GET THAT. Keep that in mind as I continue...

We then meet Cam aka Charming. Yes, he was charming but damn did that nickname GET OLD QUICK. It was a little too cringe for me honestly. Anyway. He's this rich AF guy who everyone knows on campus as the hot shot playboy who has it all. Turns out, he's rich but...not a jerk? Okay, cool, I'm still vibing.

Ella and Cam meet, have a one night stand and she leaves her shoes behind. Again, I'm still here for it at this point.

Throughout these two trying to brush past the fact that they are into each other, Ella was so hot and cold. And by these two, I mean Ella. Cam knew he liked her and she was all over the place with it.

One minute she wants him, the next she's telling her sister to make sure she doesn't let her sleep with him again. Cam is just being a gentleman and is like "I just want you, please". Ella is all "But I can't...I want to but I can't". Cam is all "I'll do whatever you want, at your pace, just give in to these feelings we clearly have for each other." And Ella is all "prove me to me you can be trustworthy".

And so he does...over and over again and it's just not enough for her to believe but enough for her to sleep with him and fool around. Not that I'm shaming...but that shit ain't cute.

He proved time and time again she could trust him and we never got a whole revealing of her past relationship to Cam so he just took her mood swings like a champ I guess.

I think her personality was bratty and I just can't take that in any main character. I think Cam was a saint to put up with half her antics. He meets the parents and she's like "he'll be staying in my room tonight". GIRL...YOU WOULD HAVE NEVER SURVIVED MY HOUSEHOLD IF YOU THOUGHT YOU COULD JUST SAY THAT.

Overall, there was a lot or cringe moments and cheesy moments. I enjoyed their competition of outdoing their fraternity and sorority parties. Although, that kind of happened quick and by the end of the book felt pointless.

I actually really enjoyed the ski trip to Vermont that didn't actually feature a ski scene. I also REALLY enjoyed when she was sick and he took care of her. That was adorable. Cam really was my saving grace in this.

There was spice and A LOT of it. Sometimes, it was unnecessary. Or it just felt off for whatever reason. It was written well but it was a little too much.

Again, this was cute. But there was nickname overload and it was cheesy. I wasn't a fan of Ella and sometimes the things they said felt so overally dramatic or cringe.

The drama with Cam and his family was so big to be spent so little time dealing with. Ella completely ditched her sister the whole time. There was just a lot going on.

I thought the very subtle references to certain Disney things was actually really cute. And I'm not a huge Disney fan, but I appreciated it.

This definitely would have been better if I was a younger reader, for sure. Take that for what you will. I know it sounds like I'm fully hating but I'm not. This had its moments.

Overall this book was a super cute modern cinderella retelling and i really like the Greek life aspect!

I did have some problems with this book cause I feel like it could’ve been so much more and for as excited as I was to read this, I was pretty disappointed 😭

The writing itself wasn’t bad at all, the spicy scenes were great 😍😍 and the author did a great job being descriptive and building scenes

The problem for me was that our FMC was just insufferable 😩 It was fine that she was skeptical of him & his intentions at first, but then he told her how he felt and proved it to her, and she was still like omg idk and the miscommunication on her end had me so frustrated. Their banter was really good at the beginning and I was into it but they kept saying the exact same things to each other throughout the book, and honestly the MMC was just a little too perfect, and didn’t really act like a guy if that makes sense?? I wish we would’ve gotten more skepticism from him and more background regarding his reputation as a playboy and literally being the hotshot frat president because it was mentioned, but then all of the sudden he was just obsessed with Ella. It didn’t feel like an out of character thing for him even though it obviously was.

They ended up actually getting together halfway through the book and they were literally dating and she was like omg i’m not sure if this is real for him… cmon now. He literally said I’ll wait for you, take your time and she was like ummmm is he serious about me?? After they did get together there was no huge plot twist or anything really keeping me engaged til the end so i felt like it dragged on, and the “huge” secret he kept from her was just kind of out of left field because it wasn’t portrayed as some huge secret he kept from her that they were having issues with & then it just kinda came up randomly and then was talked about a little and turned out fine. The last half of the book was them happy and together which is fine for those who are into that, but for me it just felt like a 100 page long epilogue and I wanted more conflict & drama.

The overall vibes of this book were really fun and I did enjoy parts of it, but I wish there would’ve been more to it. The spice was really awesome and I would definitely read more books from this author in the future!

Book was 5/5 stars & spice level was 3/5 stars!!!

Thank you to Jennifer Chipman for the ARC!!! I loved Spookily Yours by Jennifer Chipman and I knew I wanted to read more by her!!! I am so happy I received this ARC and that I read this book because omg everyone, it was so good.

(I want to apologize in advance - I wrote this review while filled with tons of coffee and so I was just feeling all the feelings so much. I just am in a silly girlie mood.)

Growing up, Cinderella was my favorite Disney character. I have so many photos dressed in Cinderella costumes and I even had a Cinderella + Prince Charming Barbie… I was obsessed. This book filled me with so much joy like Cinderella’s story.

Mini Summary ~ Meet Cam + Ella, two people who hook up and then are thrust together (Ah see what I did there) as they lead their Greek organizations (fraternity and sorority). This book is a spicy college romane!!!

Ella & Cam are so CUTE!!! Omg, the way they just marveled at each other’s successes… stop right now, they’re so kind. Cam is a dream book boyfriend very much Prince Charming the way he cared for Ella and showed her love. Ella was a strong book girl who was afraid to love and who found her person. Ella had such a kind heart just like Cinderella. So did Cam though!

So… are you reading it now?!?! You have to say yes!!! HEHEHEHE!!!

    !!! - SPOILERS BELOW - !!!

To tell you the truth, I had to pause reading the ARC for a night as soon as Cam said he would wait for her until she was ready to fight for him and just be with him… yeah I was shook, screaming, crying, and just feeling all of the feelings.

I am so happy they ended up together and they were happy together… I love love. So cute!!! I love Cam & Ella. Every time they were together just happy in love, I was kicking my feet giggling at how cute this book was.

🪡 The FMC - Ella - She is an adorable costume design major at Castleton University living a quiet introverted life while her twin sister takes center stage with her outgoing personality. Her sister convinced her to go to a Halloween party at a fraternity on campus where she meets an unlikely Prince Charming. They have an instant connection and agree to leave it all the table for one night with no real names. When she sneaks out the next morning she doesn’t expect to ever see him again…

👑 The MMC - Cameron - He is a part of campus royalty and from a family of money. He’s his fraternity’s chapter president and during their Halloween party he meets a lovely Princess. The only thing he has to help find her is knowing her major and a silver pair of shoes she left behind. He makes it his mission to find his princess again!

Cam and Ella are absolutely adorable. Their relationship is sweet and believable from the moment they meet. This is an adorable Cinderella inspired romance. I devoured 𝓐 𝓝𝓸𝓽 𝓢𝓸 𝓟𝓻𝓲𝓷𝓬𝓮 𝓒𝓱𝓪𝓻𝓶𝓲𝓷𝓰 in a day. It truly felt like reading a modern day fairytale. I adored the Cinderella touches in the clothing and character names (Gus...so cute). Cam was so sweet, and truly a Prince Charming. I love a boy obsessed and that man was obsessed with the FMC. He brushes her hair and takes care of her when she’s sick. SWOON 🤩 Ella was such a likable, and relatable FMC. I found myself understanding her often. The social battery running low, the fears, and anxieties? Check, check, and check. I loved that the main characters were able to open up, be vulnerable, and grow with one another. Overall, this was a delightful page-turner. I enjoyed every moment. This is my second book that I’ve read by this author and I cannot wait to read more. I absolutely adored watching Cam and Ella’s relationship develop in this fairytale of a story! I saw a lot of myself in Ella in how she is a bit avoidant and flighty in relationships, but still loves hard. The references to Cinderella were weaved so perfectly throughout the story, it kept me wanting to note and highlight all the time.
I love how light and swoony the read felt, while still having a few deeper emotional moments that helped reveal some of the characters deeper fears and life experiences.
I also adored the side characters and how much I could picture CU the whole time (although I may or may not have just been picturing my college campus and my Greek life experience 😉) goes to show how realistic the setting and srat/frat was written 🫶
This felt like a breath of fresh air from my typical romance reads, I’m so excited to read more related works!

  • Michaela Burton

    Oh so you like Cinderella?

Our main characters Ella (aka Princess) and Cam (Charming) meet at a royal ball otherwise known as a frat party. Their connection is unfathomable and the night is remembered in a fairytale-like way.

Set on keeping her distance from the mysterious man she met on Halloween, Ella pushes all her energy into her classes as well as her new responsibilities as sorority president. Her first order of business, partnering with a frat to keep them in good standing with the university.

As fate throws Ella and Cam back into each other's lives, they have to decide what really matters to them and if this fairytale has a happy ending or not.

The only thing I wish about this book was that the epilogue hadn’t jumped so far into the future. With the way the book ended, it appears there will be another book following Ella’s sister, which is confusing since we already know who she ends up.

Overally, I thought this was an adorable and spicy romance read. If you like happy endings and princes who know how to dirty talk, then I highly recommend you pick this up as your next read.

Thank you so much Jennifer Chipman for allowing me to be on the ARC team for this cutie book and for writing the most perfect book couple <3

    4.5/5 ⭐️

Thank you so much Jennifer for this arc.

I was beyond excited to get this because I have been such a fan of all of her previous works and this one was a perfect addition to her collection.

This book is Cinderella inspired which was so fun to read because that was my favorite princess growing up. From their first interaction Cam was obsessed with Ella. From the very beginning I could tell how endearing and wholesome their relationship was gonna be.

I loved watching Cam take care of and love on Ella even before they officially started dating. He’s a top tier book boyfriend.

I could relate so much to Ella when it came her insecurities and anxiety, I think many people people will be able to relate to her as well.

I ABSOLUTELY loved that their was no third act breakup. In some books in okay but in others it’s just doesn’t make sense and I’m glad Jennifer saw that a third act breakup wouldn’t be needed.

Will be recommending this book to everyone!! 🫶🏻

    ✨ARC Review✨

Thank you to Jennifer Chipman for this ARC in exchange for an honest review 🫶🏻

Ella tends to live behind her twin sister’s shadows. She’s not fond of being the centre of attention as she’s more comfortable to be in her own bubble. She enjoys designing and creating beautiful dresses and mostly preferred to stay behind the scenes. Somehow a one night stand at a Halloween party where she met Cam, her ‘Prince Charming’ opens up to an entirely novel path in her life.

She thought that she would never meet him again after the party but obviously they were meant to be since the man of her dreams was apparently the President of the fraternity club and they have to work together because both of their clubs had to partner up for the rest of the year.

Cam really radiates that princely aura. There’s not a single flaw about this man. He always supports Ella’s dream and often reassures her on how talented she is. Their love for each other is cute but at the same time I feel like it was too rushed? Didn’t you guys just met? 😭 I don’t know maybe it was a me problem.

This book is a modern Cinderella fairytale minus the wicked stepmother and stepsisters. It actually introduces rivals to lovers trope but I just did not see the rivalry? Their reveal was very brief. I was kinda hoping they would have a few snarky banter during their partnership before they realised that they had met at the Halloween party.

This book is just pure vibe and the plot is quite lacking and also some parts were repetitive. I’m really sorry for not liking this book as much I’d want to. If you want an easy read with just the right amount of spice and fluffiness, this book is the right choice for you. Also the book dedication awaken the inner child in me 🥺💕

    Tropes:
    🤍 Dual POVs
    🩵 One night stand
    🤍 College romance
    🩵 He falls harder
    🤍 Insta-love

I love a good fairytale retelling, and this is a modern Cinderella retelling. Include college, Greek life, and a lot of spice. 🥵

What I really can appreciate about this retelling is that sure the MMC is smitten right away, and sure she leaves her shoe and all that, but he is not actually running around fitting her shoe on people. I was also super worried there would be a mix up with her twin sister in the beginning.

I love how the characters were pushed together. It started out on fire, but after the blaze calmed down, that burn was slow and satisfying.

I received an ARC I'm exchange for an honest review.

Who doesn’t love a fairytale retelling!? This was a really fun, cute and spicy take on Cinderella and Prince Charming’s story.

I loved all the Easter eggs and nods to other fairytales and characters, maybe some we’ll see in the future!?

I really enjoyed the dual POV and a book has my heart when there’s no third act breakup, so thank you for that!

I also thought the ending was really sweet. Oftentimes, I finish a book and want just a little bit more of their story and this book delivered on that!

Huge shoutout to the author for this advanced copy in exchange for my honest review!

    4.5 ✨

this book is a cinderella inspired romance, and it was absolutely adorable! this was definitely a boy-obsessed romance, which i always love! cameron was very much prince charming. cameron was such a sweet character and truly adored ella. we see ella struggle with her own insecurities and anxiety, which made her very relatable. i loved how much they opened up to each other! the chemistry between these two were so amazing!! also no third act breakup!!

thank you so much jennifer chipman for this arc!!

🩵 this book will release on 1/26/24 🩵

“Don’t think for one second that there’s anyone I want but you.”

“You taught me what it was like to be loved. I might have thought I’d been in love before, but I know now that it wasn’t true.”

°❀⋆.ೃ࿔*:・Jennifer Chipman never disappoints me!!! <3 I will gladly continue to read all the upcoming books by her, I've already read two, but this one is one of my favorites. Cam and Ella were everything in A Not So Prince Charming and I hope you all give them a chance°❀⋆.ೃ࿔*:・

ps. no third act breakup ༘✶ ⋆。 You just get a lot of love and it's so cute

ok this was a quick read…

i like cheesy romances but there was no real problems that i feel like ella and cameron encountered as a couple and that annoyed me. maybe this is a bit of a red flag of me.

it was more so just back and forth and so so.

the steamy scenes were steamy and i can appreciate that but it was just a really quick read for me, and there wasn’t a lot of oomf to the plot. it was still cute tho, i surmise.

Dare I say…too fluffy? Too sweet? I was really into it at first but after they actually got together I lost interest??
