Your ability to change everything - including yourself - starts here

Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing.

But it's the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute take a very unscientific view of equality. Forced to resign, she reluctantly signs on as the host of a cooking show, Supper at Six . But her revolutionary approach to cooking, fuelled by scientific and rational commentary, grabs the attention of a nation.

Soon, a legion of overlooked housewives find themselves daring to change the status quo. One molecule at a time.

This book was amazing in the audiobook at the end there is a small interview with the author too which I enjoyed. Hearing about her experiences with life and how she wrote the book you can totally understand society and culture 'back in the day'. I would have loved to watch this show on TV.

A pleasant read, very much liked the boldness of Elizabeth Zott and her character. The end could have been less obvious but I liked it overall.

The story takes us into the 1950s and 1960s. A world so different from today! Elizabeth Zott is a Chemist. A good chemist or rather an excellent Chemist! Being a woman in those times was wrought with difficulties! Women were treated as inferior to men! There was no equality and there are some disturbing incidences in the story carried out by despicable men. Elizabeth wants to be treated and seen as an equal! Judged on her own merit and intellectual ability. There are other female characters who face equally challenging situations. Elizabeth meets Calvin Evans. It is not love at first sight but they are soul mates. They move in together. Again something that was frowned upon back then. There is a child born out of wedlock. Both Elizabeth and Calvin have had difficult childhoods. There are other well rounded characters in the story too. There is inequality and discrimination. What women had to put up with is shocking! Elizabeth fights hard against the then societal norms. She becomes a household name in an afternoon tv show. She instils hope and inspires women everywhere that they can be what they want to be. She turns the status quo upside down. I mustn't forget six-thirty the dog. He is an important character in the story too! This is one of those books that is hard to put down! This is a page turner and a must read! Women like Elizabeth Zott paved the way for us!
    Highly recommend!!

Thank you Penguin Random House Audio for this complimentary audiobook.

I know I’m late for the party but I finally now why everyone loved this story so much!

I started this series last month on my trip to NYC and it was impossible to stop watching and after finishing I started this audiobook and it was just as perfect.
It is simply irresistible, funny, surprising and addictive.

Really inventive and interesting premise. The book is at its best when it's funny and camp and flamboyant and out-there. Discussions of darker issues lacked emotional punch and drowned in the general levity of the story, so I wasn't really moved by these bits. Also took a star off due to rowing propaganda (JK)
