I happened upon this volume by chance and am so glad that I did! This collection, from issues of a children's magazine published during the early part of the 20th century, is well-written and wisely edited. I was struck by how the readers and authors wanted the children to be engaged, educated, entertained and of good character.
Johnson-Feelings has done a masterful job of putting in context articles and stories that might sound off-putting taken out of context to contemporary readers. In fact, she sets an example of how one can savour and appreciate works of the past without being beholden to past sensibilities.
This book is both a treasure and a treasury.
